Last week was a pretty rough week for some folks. First, there was the woman who thought it was a good idea to handle her mouse problem with a gun, and now there's this little piece out of Tampa, Florida: A woman waiting in line at a meat market had her fingertip bitten off in a "cat fight" with another customer. Allegedly, the argument was over who was going to get their meat first. The result: Anyone care for a finger sandwich?

This is all just a tad too ironic. I bet losing that fingertip hurt—perhaps even as much as it hurts piglets to have their tails cut off, baby chickens to have their sensitive beaks cut off, or calves to be burned with a hot iron and have their horns cut off—all without any painkillers. Yeah, I bet that feels like a day at the spa.

Let's work for the day when a news story is about sparing a thought for the real victims who suffered greatly for the meat behind that counter.

At the grocery store I used to work at, a young summer employee was using the deli slicer to cut some meat for a woman's order and cut off the tip of his index finger a good half inch or so. They tried to sew it back on, but it didn't take and went black so he just snipped it off again with some scissors. I'm just glad I was off work that day.

I am NOT the least bit happy about this outcome! Only the tip of her finger? WTF? I refuse to celebrate until I read that someone at a slaughterhouse has lost a hand, foot or head or all 3, then, I give a party! And not until then. So there. But this is a beginning!
But remember, I am a person of great peace!

Peace for all animals!

People are insanely greedy and as showcased here lack even simple respect and common courtesy for their fellow consumer.....err man.

LOL....this is just to perfect!

Thank you for this article!!

I totally agree...Enough about how humans feel pain or suffer an injury when they can certainly cope and DEAL with more than any animal can, especially at the hands of a human...a little pain to their finger, or wherever else they might suffer a little bruise is nothing compared to the suffering and brutality inflicted on animals every day of their short lives.
Its incredible the ENORMOUS amount of whining that humans do IN OUR WORLD yet CANNOT see the same suffering from an animals life.
How sad and pathetic humans are.

"But remember, I am a person of great peace!"
You are 100% correct Judith! I just hope you don't practice what you preach!

Posted by: Kurt k | July 14, 2008 04:03 PM

Judith,

You are a person of great peace? When you celebrate when a person loses a hand or head? Remember, many slaughter house workers are poorly paid immigrants who can't find any other job. When forced to work faster and faster, these poorly trained workers face all sorts of accidents and botched jobs. We can help introduce better regulations in slaughter houses to make things run smoothly, that is for sure. But you act like children when all you do is wish more pain on humans. That was an unfortunate accident, we'll leave it at that. At least I will. If you want to continue to act like sadistic eight year olds with thoughts of murder, feel free to.

Judith,

You would actually have a "party" if someoene looses their "head"? Considering how many animals get killed by tilling the soil would you also have a party if someone died choking on a potato?

Posted by: jay | July 14, 2008 06:52 PM

You know you love me Kurt!
You can't help it!
Love and Peace!

Peace for all animals!

Posted by: Judith | July 14, 2008 07:15 PM

hey Judith do you have the balls to say that to my face. i work in a butcher shop. and i like my job

Posted by: william | July 14, 2008 08:42 PM

It's very sad that ya'll rejoice in someone elses misfortune. It just shows your lack of maturity and the maturity level of others who leave comments to your blog.

I am certain that had this been a meat eater in YOUR family or friend circle- you wouldn't be rejoicing.

I don't eat meat because I don't believe animals should suffer to be our food. BUT I also would never take pleasure in something like this.

You may have not rejoiced over this woman loosing her finger BUT you support others who do by approving their comments.

Whatever comment(s) is left about what I said- I won't see. I don't come back to read these after I give me 2 cents. So it will be pointless to take your stand against what I had to say.

I'm not a hater.

I love animals. But, I would never laugh as someone elses misfortune or make lite of the situation.

William: Judging by her screenname, I doubt Judith HAS balls.....

Posted by: Antigone1000 | July 15, 2008 10:14 AM

Judith: Count me in--I'll come to your party!

Posted by: Antigone1000 | July 15, 2008 10:16 AM

No sensitive being deserves to suffer, though I can see the irony here. People getting injured in their haste to cause or support animal suffering.

Posted by: pam | July 15, 2008 12:10 PM

Ego-, ethno-, specicentric morons! Really, how do we get it through to you ignorant f___s that PAIN IS PAIN whether felt by a goat or a human? And you nepotistic ignoramuses just take the cake--Are you really so simpleminded that you can only focus empathy on family rather than on all living beings? In answer to the idiotic question; YES, if it were a member of my family I would not only have laughed but would have taken the opportunity to berate and belittle a supposedly intelligent human for their insensitive and self-centered whining over the deserved fruit of their labors. JEEEEEEZUS!

Posted by: Peter | July 15, 2008 01:31 PM

Judith,
I believe that is about the nicest thing you have ever said to me!
I think you love me too!
Peace be with you as well!

Posted by: Kurt K | July 15, 2008 01:35 PM

Yes Judith you left the door open for every typical "head in the sand" uncompassionate, illogical, semi-literate, dysfunctional, disinformation-spewing, meaty-centric flunky to spew their hatred and stupidity with that type of remark. i find it tragic that people can be so violent, like those tragic and misguided consumers mentioned in the story, and so readily not think about the consequences of their actions, i know it happens everyday. Peace.

Posted by: vegancoin | July 15, 2008 01:52 PM

I beleive that their should be peace amoungst everyone. No just animals. Humans too. Once we start getting along, things will go in its place. No judging. No discrimination. Just peace.

Posted by: Marryose | July 15, 2008 01:54 PM

hey thxs! i'm going to use it for my story!!!

Posted by: Tovah | July 15, 2008 02:19 PM

Antigone1000, I would feel honored to have you as my guest!

William, Do you really think I would enter a butcher shop?
You have what Dr's. refer to as a lazy brain! It happens to meat-eaters and butchers!

Peace for all animals!

Posted by: Judith | July 15, 2008 04:12 PM

"Judge not, lest ye be judged".

Peace for all animals!

Posted by: Judith | July 15, 2008 04:49 PM

Judith this discussion has already flatlined with the typical barrage of one-dimensional childish personal attacks from the typical unthinking and uncaring disillusioned meaty-anthrocentric flunky apologist, whom is clearly unable to think for themselves, be honest with themselves and others or make even simple decisions and rational choices. This is the crux of the problem not the errant and arrogant stupidity of the hapless, helpless and self-righteously misinformed "clueless" anti-social dysfunctional customers.

Posted by: vegancoin | July 15, 2008 05:58 PM

People, let's get some perspective here!! You show buckets of pity for a woman losing her FINGERTIP in a fight she willing got into but don't give a thought about the innocent, butchered BODIES of the animals she's fighting to get her hands on!
Can I come, too, Judith? You'n Antigone you da best..

Posted by: lynda downie | July 15, 2008 11:09 PM

hi Judith, i'm 100 pct with you! and i got also a nice story for you: once a neighbour told us that when his brother entered the stable and went to the bull thatone was so much frightened that he tore his finger off with the rope - then my mother and me looked at each other and said: and who was with him? and she answered: the butcher, who usually comes to take the small calfs! and my mother and me felicitated the bull!
love and peace for you and all animals!

Posted by: SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION | July 16, 2008 01:01 PM

Lynda, You can be the belle of the ball!
I know who I wouldn't want protecting my flock, they might end up being someone's dinner!

Peace for all animals!

Party On Judith!

There er mean down air in the South. Doesn't surprise me a bit.

Take courage naysayers, We do not spare our families our Wrath. In fact, I kinda hone my craft on them when I'm forced to be in the same room as my scary stepfather who sells restaurant equipment for the Taylor Corp. There number one client; McDonalds, yes and gasp KFC.

I want to rip his head off for doin that. If
his plane went into the ocean on the way to China, to "spread the joy" I would not shed a tear.

You know, the Bible says that even the preeminately sinful love those who love them. They AGOPY LOVE OF GOD is love for all Life as God loves all life.

So, when you eat from the devils table your gonna reap the devils reward.

Posted by: Saucy | July 16, 2008 02:19 PM

WOW!!!! This party list keeps getting better and better!

Peace for all animals!

Posted by: Judith | July 16, 2008 04:17 PM

ha. i lol'd

Posted by: Julie | July 17, 2008 01:19 AM

Actually I don't think people are taking pity on this lady. People act like idiots all the time...meat lovers AND vegetarians.

Signed,
One of those mean devil meat eaters

Posted by: Tabitha | July 17, 2008 09:54 AM

Judith, you're not a person of great peace! You want people to get their heads cut off!

OK, onto the blog. I do not think it is a big deal that her fingertip got cut off in a "cat fight". A girl my sister knew got some part of her forhead cut with a knife when another girl took it too far in a fight at school. I got the top of my toe skinned off when I was running barefoot on cement and tripped. Even some of the skin was still hanging on.... ew. I also had another accident in the playground when I stumbled on the sand and about half my face was completely scraped. My sister got 14 stitches on her knee from an accident in summer about two years ago. This woman's accident is not a very big deal.
