Imagine the very start of the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain: Anxious spectators lean forward to see the intimidating, powerful, and dangerous 600-pound bulls charge around the corner.

Now imagine the spectators' surprise if the corner was rounded not by tortured animals but by Formula 1 racing cars. The mighty, 600-kilogram (1323-pound) masses of metal are operated by professional drivers who squeal their tires on the cobblestones and maneuver around corners so tightly that spectators are forced to scramble to safety. How freakin' awesome—and better—would that be?

Well, it turns out that that's what actually happened last weekend. Red Bull sponsored an event where two drivers, David Coulthard and Sebastien Bourdais, tore through the streets of Pamplona early on the morning of June 28. They finished the Red Bull Run with car demonstrations in the bullfighting arena and on a 1.2-mile track.

The best feature of this event was that—unlike what happens at that other Running of the Bulls—the drivers who gave chase weren't beaten before the race, and chemicals weren't smeared in their eyes. The drivers were paid, too. Oh yeah—and the drivers weren't stabbed to death afterward, either, which is nice.

I think its a much better idea than the OTHER running of the bulls. I know some people die in the other running of the bulls, did anyone die this time? If not then it just sounds like it should completely replace the old running bulls tradition.

it seems these Spaniards like nothign more than some event to start and keep their adrenelin running.. ie. in this case, being fearful and running out of the way of a 600 lb galloping bull.. (ie. what are they doing running in the first place in the same vicinity/pathway of a running bull intentionally let loose anyway ?) they certainly concoct strange 'events' to amuse themselves.. I won't go on about what I think of bull fighting nor their ohter HORRID loathesome festivals where they torment bulls horrendously.. but if this amuses them.. ie running out of hte way of 'something'. car, tractor, .. whatever.. so be it.. just leave the bulls alone I say..

This is a big improvement over the ritualized animal slaughter we are used to seeing. Now, if the people running would only get naked....

Now thats refreshing!! Could this be the making of a yearly event!? If so, I'ld support it just so we wouldn't have to think that these normally docile bulls have to suffer at the hands of madness!! I know this is probably only the so called "pre-party" for these so called "men". BUT if more people turned up for this event and people wouldn't get hurt that would be the smarter of the two and then they could leave the bulls to be bulls!!

And for the equivalent animal liberation event at the Kentucky Derby we can have all the spectators and their hats run the track while jockeys on 'horses' (race cars) try to run around them. Now that would be something to bet on!
