Even though I never had the kind of looks that could stop traffic—unless the traffic was really slow to begin with—now that I'm *mumblety-mumble* years old, I must admit to having seen the effects of aging on my appearance. So I can only imagine what it must be like for people who are still youngish whose beauty has been the basis for their career.

It must be hard to reach that point in your life where whenever your name hits the media, it's preceded by the words "former supermodel." You might become upset enough to freak out on a plane or throw a phone at your maid. Why, it's enough to make you want to pull your hair out.

Fortunately for former supermodel (see, I told you) Naomi Campbell, her hair seems to be falling out all on its own. We recognized an opportunity for some good old-fashioned consciousness-raising. Here's PETA Europe's note to Ms. Campbell:

Dear Ms Campbell,

Please don’t get angry and throw something, but I hear that you are going bald. If this is true, then you understand what it’s like to lose your hair. Of course, for animals raised and killed for their fur, the problem isn’t just that their looks suffer (have you seen a skinned fox?! Check out FurisDead.com for a quick peek) but that the skin is ripped off their bodies – sometimes while they are still conscious.

If you are balding, please seize this opportunity to make up for promoting cruelty to animals in the fur trade by promoting faux fur and natural fibres. You would look lovely in a synthetic hairpiece and/or a pretty cotton, elegant satin, practical linen or other hat made without harming a living soul. PETA would be pleased to provide you with examples of all of the above.

Very truly yours,

Ingrid E Newkirk

LOVE IT!!!!!

Peace for all animals!

she's rich enough, i'm sure. So she could just get a human hair wig.

I don't believe that this is karma for the furs she did or didn't wear, but going bald doesn't equate at all to an animal being tracked and killed for it's fur. being bald is only mental pain not physical. And she is fortunate enough to be able to cover her bald spot.

I never liked her anyway. Her baldness just proves that looks don't excuse you from lifes trials.

Don't get all angry and protest me, but that letter is provocative and insulting.

I agree with Mitch, that's pretty mean and uncalled for PETA. Doesn't losing hair have to do with serious diseases? and also, is Naomi Campbell someone who wears fur and supports fur farms? If she is, then I guess this a great way for PETA to reach out to her, but if she isn't, then I don't really get it.

I think that might be the point...

Posted by: Amy | July 21, 2008 03:42 PM

The supermodel Naomi Campbell has been sentenced to 200 hours – five working weeks – of community service for kicking and spitting at police officers after going "berserk" on a plane.

Campbell :
"They have lost my fucking bags, get me another flight, get the press, get me my lawyer."
"Bring me my fucking bags now!"
"How dare you tell me what my options are! You are not leaving until you find my fucking bags."

"It is because I am a black woman? You are all racists. I am going to sue you. I am going to fuck you."

"You blonde bitch. Answer me, answer me."

supermodel indeed.

I agree with Peta in most cases, but I think this letter was uncalled for. Don't get me wrong, I despise the lady but the letter will not make Naomi Campbell stop wearing fur. It might even make her angrier and go get herself a big, fat full-length fox-fur coat! For someone as spoiled as Naomi who thinks looks are everything, this letter will hit the wrong nerve. I guarantee it.

this fur addicted hag urgently needs a new fucking wig!

Posted by: SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION | July 21, 2008 05:09 PM

Posted by: kim | July 21, 2008 08:09 PM

at least she will be alive...karma karma karma

Posted by: jonathan | July 21, 2008 09:56 PM

analiese i think wearing fur that has been ripped from a living animal is mean!!! fuck her she deserves a letter like this if she is going to support the fur trade. have some campassion for the animals who can't defend or speak for themselves and stop worrying about poor little millionaire naomi

Posted by: nicole | July 21, 2008 10:44 PM

I think this letter is uncalled for. Peta does not need to insult and hurt others to promote animals well- being. If you ask me Naomi Campbell is not going bald. Plus, does Peta really want to build a bad relationship with her?

Posted by: Anna | July 22, 2008 09:45 AM

I Love fur!

I think its so beautiful and soft and plushy and warm...

I especially love it when its still on the happily living animal that was genetically designed to wear it.

I don't believe she is balding. Her hair is thin in the front from the constant stress stylists put on her hair through chemical straightening as well as adding extensions.

Posted by: Michelle | July 22, 2008 10:53 AM

Mental stress can cause your hair to fall out. She needs to seriously chill out, remove that huge chip from her shoulder, quit playing diva, and get her ducks in a row.

Nice post, Iris.

Dr. Breenan the only dumbasses are the evil people who abuse animals for vanity and greed. Ever hear about the two doctors from Northwestern who spent their days severing the spinal of rats. Guess what? Their intense curiosity got them some unexpected rusults. Both of their daughters were stuck down with spinal cord injuries.

God is not playing folks. We have no right under the sun to do what we are doing to animals. And you can take it from me or you can take it from Peta or you can let God give it to you.

People are not above animals we live and we die by the Grace of God. And their is not one doctor or one lab and certainly not some gross coke snorting violent bitch of a supermodel that is ever going to change that simple truth.

Dr.Breen you're no fucking doctor - see the connection - dumbass!?

Posted by: Mister Jingles | July 22, 2008 01:55 PM

Well I care more about the suffering of those skinned animals this woman is promoting than any hurt feelings on her part.

Posted by: Maureen | July 22, 2008 02:25 PM

Dr. Breen: among colleagues i would rather apply vasectomy on you than lobotomy - the safest way of birth control; so you could avoid a multiple appearance of little Dr. Breens!

Posted by: Dr. Jingles | July 23, 2008 11:18 AM

Amen Saucy!
Amen Dr. Jingles!

Most of my heroes wear masks!
Peace for all animals!

Posted by: Judith | July 23, 2008 01:33 PM

Dr. Breenan, it is not uncommon for scientists, doctors, people with lots of years of higher education to lose their belief in God. It seems to be in man's nature to get puffed up with pride and forget how small we really are in the Universe, especially when the world tells us how important or wonderful we are. God is not the author of pain and suffering, the devil is. God is a Spirit, God is Love. The devil is a spirit, an evil spirit. There is no light that dwells within him. Satan is the father of lies. Satan comes only to kill, steal and destroy. The devil keeps himself well hidden. One of the biggest lies the devil ever told is to get you to believe he doesn't exist.

Is it so hard to imagine a world without bloodshed. As a doctor you must certainly know that without blood their is no life.
