Sorry to burst happy bubbles everywhere, but here's the downer: Viagra is not always effective. Up to 40 percent of men who take Viagra report no result at all. We firmly believe that no one should have to live an unsatisfying life. If you're looking for a good time in the bedroom, you can improve your satisfaction tenfold by making a few simple changes in the kitchen.
Obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, prostate cancer, and hormonal imbalances are just some of the health problems that cause male impotency. Ditching artery-clogging meat and dairy products—and eating a diet rich in leafy greens, fruits, and grains—will lift your mood, get you back into action, and get your blood pumping to all the right locations.
So whether you're a wannabe manly man or a wannabe Mata Hari, pick up a banana and put down the prescription pills. Vegetarians do make better lovers. And you know what else we make? Some pretty darn cool ads! Here are PETA's top 10 impotence ads:
10. A Vegetarian Lover Gives You Something to Wake Up For—Last night was great, but there's nothing like rekindling the fire with some morning wood.
9. Rude Food—Nothing compares to hooking up with a really, really hot dish …
8. Santa's Not Coming This Christmas—Ho, ho—oh no! "Jolly St. Nick" can't get his jollies 'cuz milk's made his mojo a no-go.
7. Kevin Eubanks Vegetarian Testimonial—The juicy confessional of a former "World's Sexiest Vegetarian"
6. I Threw a Party but the Meat-Eaters Couldn't Come—Leaving a beautiful girl in a red-white-and-blue bikini standing there holding a limp sausage? Well, that's just un-American!
5. Tofu Wrestling—Everyone knows that ladies love extra-firm soy and extra-firm boys. Here's proof that tofu is so freakin' cool that bikini-clad beauties will wrestle over it in a kiddy pool.
4. Three Stages of a Wiener—Three more reasons to skip the wieners for a watermelon salad
3. PETA's Make-Out Tour—Who can turn away from a sexy couple engaged in some passionate PDA on the pavement? Plus, it's got a much better soundtrack than that annoying "Viva Viagra" song.
2. Eating Meat Got You Down?—It takes a "stiff" competitor to bed a babe. There's nothing sadder than when a guy realizes he just can't keep up with the "Johnsons" anymore.
1. Sexy Sausage Ad (Director's Cut)—In a business where talent is measured in inches, what's a porn director to do when his meat-head star goes soft? Luckily, a hot vegan guy shows up to turn this Super Bowl party into a sausage fest.

The referenced article is misleading. Sildinafil has never been shown to increase libido in men or women. People who take SSRI's (prozac, zoloft, etc.) often have difficulty reaching orgasm irrespective of libido. The increased clitoral blood flow seems to help these women overcome this side effect.

Did you guys read that watermelon has been found to be as helpful for men as Viagara? Not sure about the accuracy of this, but it sure counts as vegan!!

Christopher,
Can you please explain to me why the GFR is lower in vegetarian/vegans, and the difference in blood GFR and 24 hour urine.
How does that work?
Thanks,
Enjoy your evening.

Good for you and your hubby, Judith! In my younger days I did something rude with a carrot with my girlfriend at the time. I guess I had veg inclinations even then (lol).

Where are your sources for your declaration that milk makes you impotent? On the other hand there have been some tentative reports of soy products potentially decreasing your libido. Please do not disseminate bad science just to promote your worldview. There are already enough benefits to veganism without needing to make things up.

Jimbo,
Now you are the one contributing to bad science. To those who have read my other posts, I will sound like a broken record, but I shall continue to spread the correct information when needed. (I have even put the key words in bold to make it easier to understand.)
There are NO valid, reputable, consistent HUMAN studies that show ANY effect (good or bad) of the phytoestrogens in soy.
If you plan to bring up a claim like this after putting down someone for making an equally baseless assertion, please be armed with more than a few headlines from a Google search.

Holly,
In short, I know of no deleterious effects of a vegan diet on renal function. Low protein diets are sometimes implemented in people with renal disease in an effort to preserve a failing kidney, but as is often pointed out, vegan diets aren't low protein.

Thank You Christopher,
It is believed that a Vegetarian/Vegan diet may be the cause of a lower GFR as there is minimal animal protein in the diet. It is well known that a protein load causes an increase in the filtration.
A study of vegans and omnivores showed significantly lower GFR in vegans. The omnivores had higher urinary albumin excretion and higher blood pressure [NEPHRON 46(1):37-42 (1987)].
A 24-hour urine sample provides useful information for estimation of GFR in individuals with exceptional dietary intake (vegetarian diet, use of creatine supplements)
Just want to understnd how this works.
Thanks,
Enjoy your day,
Holly

Derek, I believe the lastest came from national news, not just Google. I personally saw it on CNN.

Tabitha,
Guess what? I personally saw David Copperfield walk through the Great Wall of China and make the Statue of Liberty disappear on national television.
Give me a break...journalism is 90% sensationalism and 10% fact-based, and I am being generous. Perhaps CNN also had a breaking interview with someone authoring a book on the subject to go along with the report?
The fact is that no one knows if phytoestrogens are biologically active in humans (NO conclusive positive or negative effects).

Tabitha,
But what kind or form of soy? Just like there is a huge difference nutritionally between a donut and sprouted whole grain bread, so too with soy.

i'm totally for a vegetarian lifestyle, but these ads are just tacky.

Don't get all fiesty on me, Derek, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, I'm just pointing it out the fact that it wasn't just "googled" as you like to say.
And btw if news were 90% sensationalism this country would be eaten up by lawsuits. You're in MY territory now.
And Mike I'm not sure, so here's the actual ABC News story.
(and just for Derek, I googled it).
A US study linking the consumption of products containing soy with reduced sperm counts among men is weak and requires more follow-up says an Australian researcher.
The Harvard School of Public Health study, which appears in the latest edition of Human Reproduction, found consuming more than two serves of soy-based food per day could significantly reduce sperm concentration.
The retrospective study examined the soy intake of 99 men, who were each part of a couple experiencing fertility difficulties. They were asked to recall how often they consumed one of 15 soy-based foods during the preceding three months.
Semen samples were collected from each man, analysed and compared to their questionnaire results.
The researchers concluded that increased soy consumption reduced sperm concentration.
"There was an inverse association between soy food intake and sperm concentration that remained significant after accounting for age, abstinence time, body mass index, caffeine and alcohol intake and smoking," they say.
The researchers claim that soy products, which contain isoflavones, act like female hormones and impede a man's ability to produce sperm.
However, the study also found other factors such as being overweight or obese impacted on sperm concentration. The majority of men (72%) in the study were overweight or obese, having a body mass index score of more than 25.
Follow-up needed
Professor Richard Ivell from the University of Adelaide says that while the study is interesting it needs follow-up.
"This is a weak study, but what they are saying is that this is just one very small study giving a hint in a direction," he says.
"It needs a lot more study - studies with more money and bigger designs so that we can be really clear about this."
Ivell says the results of the Harvard study shouldn't cause men to give up on soy.
"It's not something that would make me say 'all men should stop eating soy foods'. There's not enough data for that at all," he says.

In 2006, there was a report (not study) in Gynegological Endocrinology that suggested a possible link between phytoestrogens and INCREASED fertility. Granted, it only involved one couple at a fertility clinic, but it follows the trend of the outcome of a study/report of phytoestrogens is DIRECTLY related to the outcome which the researchers were attempting to show (especially in regards to pro/anti cancer properties).
I have taken a quick look at the study to which you refer, and already see issues with their results, given the high proportion of obese subjects (on average: lower testosterone, higher estrogen sensitivity, reduced sperm production, relative hypogonadotropic hypogonadism...). The weak (results) keep getting weaker.

Tabitha,
Sounds rather inconclusive. From an observational standpoint, soy doesn't seem to dampen the fertility of Asian men (or maybe the women are super-fertile).
Anyway, vegetarians can get by nicely with very little or no soy if they have any concerns.
I avoid processed food, so right there I bypass a lot of soy derivatives that are used in many refined foods.

hi everybody!
fact is that a vegan diet makes you feel much healthier and less heavy! being just a vegetarian made me always feel tired and heavy but if somebody really wants to lose weight and have a juicy fresh face there is just one way: become vegan! so it is normal that at any age you're also feeling sexy - isn't it?!

I've been a vegetarian since I was 12 and I didn't become sexually active until 18, so I have no comparison between veg and non, but it never hurt anything, and I do believe that the quality of diet affects the sex drive, my husband's fluctuates a lot based on what he eats, mine is fluctuating but it seems to be more hormonal as I'm pregnant.
