Activists Strip for Bulls

Upset about the torture of bulls, over 60 activists from across the globe, including some Americans, got completely downright naked and protested against the encierro, or the Running of the Bulls, in Pamplona this weekend. Notice any recurring themes in the protest tactics of animal rights folk? That's right! We're pretty good at, ya know, getting noticed.
Lying down near the end of the Running of the Bulls route and dressed only in black underpants with matador barbs protruding from their backs, the activists dramatically highlighted the immense cruelty and suffering that bulls endure. These half-ton animals are chased through crowded, winding, and sometimes rain-slicked streets while runners and spectators hit and taunt them. The bulls often crash to their knees or collide with walls in their panic. It's seriously sad, sick "hey, look at me, I'm a man" stuff that we're dealing with here, folks.
Even though Spain was recently in our good graces for their compassion to apes, the Running of the Bulls is a massive blemish on the country's reputation, and it needs some serious rethinking. Even Spanish TV stations know what's up, and they refuse to air this hideous event. Maybe Pamplona's mayor could learn a lil' somethin'-somethin' from the folks at Red Bull?

Beautiful protest, PETA! Of course I am 100 percent against cruelty of kittens and puppies, it seems as though most people only care about the cuddly animals!!
My deepest thanks for caring about bulls, who are often villanized and treated like they deserve to be abused!!
Please keep the pressure on Spain. And thanks to the Americans who participated, you make us all look more compassionate!

This is so true, I have so much sympathy for bulls they are always tortured. I cry every-time I see bull riding, bull fighting, and the running of the bulls. Its horrible, this is such a great protest, I wish I could have been there Great job Peta!

Every year animal rights activists protest this horror show and it's still going on.
What needs to be done to get Pamplona to stop this cruel and totally inhumane spectacle? I applaud the PETA folks who protested there, but I can't help but wonder what has to happen to make an end of this terrible event every year. And for the poster who was "offended" (above),imagine how the BULLS feel! Can you name one good reason for this bizarre "tradition" other than "custom"? A culture is known by how it treats its most vulnerable members, including elders, children and animals. How does Pamplona want to be known? Who ever heard of it except as the town that torments a bunch of terrified bulls every year? Why not be known for something else, something humane and kind and compassionate, like ending the running of the bulls?

Love the protest!! Shut down the matador schools and be done with this blood sport (if you can even call it a sport) for good!! Makes my skin crawl knowing this is happening as we speak!! End the suffering.

what a great protest!! i never realized what this sport all entailed for the bulls. i now am aware and sad that they allow such a messed thing to be called a tradition.

I hope this "tradition" stops soon. I hate bull fighting and the running of the bulls. So cruel.
Still don't like all the nudity and stuff though. There are other ways to protest. Couldn't you just wear black shorts and t-shirt?

I read in yesterday's news paper The Sun that 13 people were injured on the first day of the run and one bull never made it to the ring because he broke both his legs, a 4 minute run through hell!!! God help them...

Well, my husband had to sit with me again while watching peta's video called Bullfighting school, for moral support.
But their was nothing moral about it. It is one of the most horrific videos we have watched.
I sat there and cried with anger and he spoke many words I am not use to hearing. I support anything we can do to bring this cruelty to a quick end. These are the beautiful and moral people. Bless each and every one of you. Your bravery takes my breath away.

Tradition!!! How stupid can that be!!! Those aren't traditions, they are massacres. Hopefully we can find less people like you, with more brains to think about how cruel bulls are treated. They don't deserve to suffer in name of "a tradition". NEVERMIND, I don't think you'll get it.
On the other way, God bless all the activists who are continuosly speaking up for all those poor animals who can't. You rule!!!

Ok Maya, please bear with me because I am truly curious about this:
You can't see faces to see if those are attractive by traditional standards, but it doesn't appear to me that any of the activists are overweight or meet any of the other 'unappealing' criteria you mentioned in the sexiest veg blogger post. I sincerely do not understand why one is "beautiful" and the other is "So again, overweight men and women, poor folks, unattractive people, no matter how smart you are or may help animals, PETA does not give a crap about your voice in this particular...." It boggles the mind.

That's a good point. Of course, since this is the COMMENTS section, it goes without saying that this is just my opinion.
In this protest, PETA as far as I know did not say "we want a bunch of really gorgeous protestors!" As far as I know, these folks were all simply volunteers who showed up.
The fact that I never see any plain looking women, overweight women, etc and certainly many more female celebs being bullied than male ones, tells me that PETA has a problem.
That plus the post where they glorified the perverted pedophile "Girls Gone Wild" jerk.
Just my opinion. ;)

I am actually pleased when I see in the news that people are hurt during the running of the bulls. Too bad! Anyone that takes part in such a cruel activity (tradition) deserves some pain. Imagine how the bulls feel. How about putting 100 bulls in a field and YOU running through them?

Oh, I definitely feel sick to my stomach now.
So...people are torturing and hurting bulls for the sake of a cross-country run...
Is there anything NOT wrong with the picture? We. Are. Not. Cavemen. We do not torture living beings for entertainment. Hey, let's all burn our books, music players and movies! There's a BULL MASSACRE!
