Vivisector of the Month!

A frequent PETA Files pastime is to announce some of the country's most gruesome vivisectors. We have a solid lineup of monkey torturers this month, so please mull your choice over carefully. If you have trouble deciding, try to ask yourself: "Would I rather be raised without a mother and literally driven to alcoholism or die convulsing with a hole in my head?"
Stephen Suomi has been tormenting baby monkeys since the '70s. Working for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and living off our tax dollars, he has made a career out of tearing infants away from their mothers and letting them try to raise themselves among peers. Suomi tests the traumatized monkeys for such things as right- or left-handed preferences and tendencies to self-bite. Suomi has also done extensive work with getting motherless monkeys drunk to see how stress and deleterious rearing affects monkeys' desire to drown their sorrows. The connection in humans between early life trauma and an increased attraction to alcohol is also well-known.
Jason Cromer, currently a postdoc at MIT, is definitely a fledgling compared to Suomi, but he has been trained extensively in torturing and killing monkeys by his mentor, David Waitzman at the University of Connecticut, who is known for sticking coils into monkeys' eyes and surgically fixing them to head restraints. According to a cage log, one of Waitzman's monkeys, Cornelius, started convulsing in his restraints during an experiment performed by Cromer. He removed Cornelius' restraints and electrodes and proceeded to drug him as the convulsions developed into grand mal seizures and eventually death.
Who is our most vile vivisector this month—the tried and true NIH employee or the young blood from Connecticut? Leave a comment to let me know!

Both these guys are sickos but my vote goes to Suomi. Years of torturing baby sentient beings, does he enjoy it?

What a pair of sadist! I cringed last week when I heard Senator Barack Obama pledge to double the funding for research and for the NIH in particular. I think I'll send him a copy of this Blog.
Guess I'd vote for Suomi as Vivisector of the month this time simply because he's caused more animals to suffer - so far. That said, there can be no valid excuse for Cromer's actions.

If I can't vote for them all, Waitzman gets my vote for the barbarity of his methods.

My vote is for Jason Cromer.

I vote Cromer. Anyone who, given the current trend towards reducing and replacing animal experimentation with real science, looks at the modern scientific fields and thinks "Yeah, animal torture, that's a great career" deserves to go under a bus.

Suomi. What a bunch of pretentious academic claptrap. Instead of being useful and trying to help human alcoholics, he fritters away research time and tax dollars on a species that never naturally imbibes.

It's terrible to know these sickos live amongst us. Why do this suomi!? There really is NO POINT!! Here's a scientific fact "monkey's are not meant to drink alcohol" SOOO go get a real job, like one that would make you use your brain but like I said before too bad you don't have one!! You both are F***** up and all the other vivisector's out there still continuing to destroy lives!!!

Its difficult to know which one to vote for such is the appauling way they are all treating these monkeys ...surely enough experiements have already been performed regarding deprivation and maternal bonding so why are they still being performed

All three are gruesome! I am picking Stephen Suomi. Both for the horrors of what he is doing, and the length of time he has been doing it. Hopefully his end will be one of torment and pain.

My vote goes to Cromer. Absolutely revolting...

What kind of human being can exact a horrendous torture on an innocent animal and go home at the end of the day to reflect their image in the mirror and not hate what they see.Perhaps we should impute the same horror on them. They call us human, lets be humane. We have dominion over the earth and it's inhabitants,I can't imagine we were given this honor and priviledge to mame, torture, and turn a blind eye to the suffering of animals, the most beautiful part of our natural world.

What is wrong with the families and friends of these people. They must know what these "researchers" do for a living. Why don't any of them stand up for the animals? How could you invite these people into your homes, meet them for a Sunday bike ride, hang out together and yet say nothing about how they spend their time at work?

Welcome to the world of modern day junk science. Where "researchers" like Suomi sadistically torment and torture baby monkeys, and like Cromer who takes his cues from another researcher whom is fond of "...sticking coils into monkeys' eyes and surgically fixing them to head restraints." Pretentious academic claptrap is right, these guys are sadistic no doubt about it. Such double standards such outright stupidity such duplicity. i have always wondered where torturing and sadistically perfoming insane experiments on sentient beings comes into focus, and why it is considered acceptable. More proof positive that we live in a crazy and sick world. If it's all the same i won't cast a vote.

Another tough call! Suomi's been at it for decades but Cromer is a young scientist who could be a leader in innovative methods of research (alternatives to painful animal experimentation). For following Waitzman's lead, he gets my vote.

I feel treendous shame since Suomi means my homeland (= Finland). I hope that this monkey torturing bastard doesnt have finnish origins.

Difficult choice. If I could I would inflict the same tortures on these two elements...

Let's embarrass these heartless, souless men, if you want to call them that. What disgusting wastes of oxygen...unbelievable.
One wonders if karma is true, what awaits them in other lives.

I DON'T KNOW ASK ANDY? NEXT WEEK. I VOTE ANDY.

They should both be donated to 'science' & experimented on.

My vote goes for Cromer. Suomi was doing it longer; but in the 70s, when he started, it wasn't as reviled as it is now. He's just conditioned to be a brain-dead white coat. However, Cromer, in this day and age, thought it would be a great career move to torture apes. I have a feeling both men have no trouble sleeping at night; but it's Cromer's name I'll be cursing.
