Goodbye From Jack

For everyone else, I wanted to take a very few minutes of your time to say thanks for sticking around during the last year or so. It’s been a fantastic experience being a writer for the PETA Files, and I’m very much looking forward to settling into being a reader. In fact, I have every intention of leaving longwinded, self-important comments on every post until Christine (who, bless her heart, has taken over moderating duties) politely begs me to stop.
While I still have a soapbox, I figured this would be a good time for a quick retrospective in the form of my Top 5 moments working at this amazing organization, so here goes:
Since coming to PETA four years ago, I have:
- Performed search-and-rescue operations for abandoned animals in post-Katrina New Orleans.
- Stood, naked, painted like a Union Jack, in front of the British embassy in DC to protest the Queen’s Guards’ bearskin hats.
- Toured the country with The Alkaline Trio on behalf of peta2.
- Starred in a special “episode” of Full House that was featured on The O’Reilly Factor.
- Written (roughly) 1,200 entries and approved more than 30,000 comments for this blog. Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of that.
The good news is that this is the last week that any of us will have to put up with that nauseatingly smug version of me quite clearly sleeping on the job up in this blog’s banner. Word on the street is that (fittingly enough) I am being replaced by a chicken.

Jack I am very saddened to see you go. We faithful members of PETA have come so accustomed to reading your great blogs! I would log into peta.org and skip straight to the blog portion hoping to see great news on any accomplishments which may have taken place in the few hours (or minutes,lol) from which I was away from the site, becuase, well everyone knows you are so quick to jump on upto the minute news from the frontlines =). I will definetly be missing you and I know that whoever is taking your place will not win our blog-fans hearts anytime soon.

I will miss having Jack around, but I am excited that Princess Cutey Face has decided to stick around Norfolk and will remain PETA's Senior Vice President of Cute Face-ness.

Actually was looking at "jobs available" and saw yours there, that was sort of a clue.
I know what you're doing next...making those cruelty caseworkers just really available, am I right?
Gonna miss you Jack, I think... even though you dont' answer my MySpace messages...now you'll have more time? Right???
Dammit! I want to save the "sleeping Jack" photo and it won't let me, wants me to save a link... Please make it available to save...PWEEZ...
Oh, and good luck in your next adventure at PETA. We don't really want to see you naked though...;)

Jack, I have to say that since I discovered your blog, I have logged onto it, and PETA's website everyday...your blog brought me here and made me kinda get up off my...behind...and start doing work for animals again...

I kinda has a sense that this was coming. I'm sooooooo sad that you're leaving! No one does it quite like you do!
From what you said, I take it you're leaving Peta. What a loss! Also, Chris (above) said Princess Cuteyface was staying in Norfolk in her position with Peta. All in all, this isn't the best news, ever!

Jack, I am sooo sad to see you go. I log onto the site several times a day just to read your updates on the blog and enjoy your great sense of humor. It will not be the same without you - no one will be able to fill your shoes- ever !
I hope New York appreciates the special person they are gaining - because I know Norfolk will miss you. Please don't leave Princess CuteyFace behind - she will miss you terribly!
If you are ever in Delaware send us an email - my husband and I would be honored to put you up and take you out.

Jack, you will be missed but it was time for you to move on to the next stage of your life, caring for animals! Keep up that wonderful dry humor (or should I say humour?) ;) and remember what Andre Gide once said:

Goodbye Jack, your good humour will be missed. It's been a pleasure reading your work(not necessarily agreeably) and I'd just like to thank you for being incredibly fair to those of us who have a different perspective. Good luck with the next phase of your life.
