Seriously, though, not only do we employ James Bond-caliber infiltrators, what they uncover is more sinister—and of far greater value—than any Hollywood glam, pyrotechnic diamond heist too.
So just who are these fearless, selfless souls? Well, allow me to introduce two of PETA's MVPs: spy couple Hannah and Philip Schein. (It's cool. I can out them 'cause they are semi-retired and have already been sued.)
Get a load of this rap sheet:
- They have clandestinely captured video footage of chinchillas killed for their fur.
- Practicing Jews, the Scheins have participated in seven kosher-related investigations, most recently at a slaughterhouse in South America, where they captured footage of horrific "shackle and hoist" cow slaughter.
- They also helped direct an investigation at the world's largest kosher slaughterhouse, where an investigator documented cruelty that was anything but kosher.
- Hannah went to dinner with Beyoncé and took a hidden camera with her to take the singer to task for glamorizing the use of fur for fashion.
- Philip has been on covert missions among monks running an egg factory farm in South Carolina and black-bear hunters in Canada. Bad@$$!
So if watching these videos makes you want to throw things, just imagine being the one that filmed and edited the footage. These courageous folks risk their necks by enduring abysmal circumstances to uncover abuses that are deliberately hidden by powerful industries. And their work saves countless animals' lives. Think about it. How many of you are now veg because of a film with this kind of footage? I see quite a few hands raised. (Of course, there's no shame for those of you lured into the fold by a hot half-nekkid girl preaching the good "pro-veg" news with nothing but a few lettuce leaves covering her naughty bits. By any means necessary, yo.)
"Hannah and I know how important and effective it is to make the abuse of animals behind the scenes public," says Philip. "We are proud of our undercover work for PETA and glad that it is something we've been able to do as a couple." Suffice it to say that these heroes and their team deserve our relentless support for educating the masses while stickin' it to the man.
On behalf of animals everywhere, we the cruelty-free thank you!

Mr. and Mrs. Scheins,
Bless you for all the goodness you have done and "will continue" to do.
You are such a brave and compassionate team.
Peace, for all animals!

Thanks also to the Lettuce Ladies for taking a stand.

Really without special people like you we would be fighting a war without weapons. Thank you both so very very much!

How do they infiltrate these groups? Do they have to get jobs and work in the slaughterhouses? How did a dinner with Beyonce come about? She won't go to dinner with just anyone who wants to, so how did that connection come about? I'm also curious about "infiltrating" a group of monks in South Carolina!
There should be a book!

On behalf of the Jewish Vegetarians of North America and all people everywhere, who have love and compassion for all of G-d's innocent creatures, I want to thank Hannah and Philip Schein for the incredible "Kiddush HaShem" (Sanctification of G-d's Name) they have done so far and will do in the future.

You two are the bravest among us. Capturing horrors that are crucial in the fight against animal abuse while putting yourselves in danger and also subjecting yourselves to the facts up front and personal. My admiration for you goes beyond words. Thank you

To this day I can't get the images out of my mind from the video of the poor fledgling bird from Rainbow Exotics. I don't know the woman who filmed it, but she will be a hero in my mind forever.
I'm sure many people could not grasp the responsibilities she had to deal with, but I do and I thank her. Good work!

I admire, and salute you both.
What a gift you are to those who cannot speak out for themselves.

I love PeTA and adore people who do this. THANK YOU!!! I know I don't have the emotional control to contain my feelings if I did such a thing. You are so BRAVE, So STRONG. Wow. I honestly do not think I could do it...these people are our heros/heroines.

Oh, I would love a book about these people. I find it so interesting, the intrigue, the courage, the "spying". I might make a lot of money for the cause.
Have a beautiful day.

As practicing Jews and vegans - my husband and I are constantly explaining ourselves and lately - defending PETA in the religious Jewish community. We are THRILLED that people like Hannah and Philip are out there taking a stand for "ethical" kashrut. Thank you and everyone else at PETA for your commitment and hard work. Keep it up!
