I wanted to do a joke here about the fact that “gosling” means baby goose, but it’s not coming, so I’ll just play this one straight: Ryan Gosling, the Oscar-nominated star of Lars and the Real Girl, Murder by Numbers, and Half Nelson, has just fired off a letter on behalf of PETA to John Bitove (who runs the show over at KFC Canada in Ryan’s home country) urging him to stop KFC suppliers' worst abuses of chickens, who are killed when they’re still just babies. "The time is ripe to do the right thing," he writes. "By adopting the basic recommendations made by PETA and scientific experts (including raising birds in a more natural manner and employing less cruel slaughter methods), you could dramatically improve the lives and deaths of chickens raised and killed for KFC Canada."

You can read Ryan’s letter here. And if you haven’t seen Lars and the Real Girl yet, you should rent it. Definitely one of my favorite movies this year.

I'm very glad to hear Ryan Gosling is an opponet to the cruelty of KFC. Now he just needs to consider adopting a vegetarian diet into his life.

Man I love kfc. you know what? celebrities should worry about more Important things like helping are own starving people in this country. And not worry about other stupid countries kids. yes its wrong to kill chicks who r expected to grow n its good dat celebs use their names for causes.whether its a publicity stunt or not. my point here is dat peta should adopt more humane means of dealing with hman beings.u say u r advocates for animals yet you tend to act like crazy wild animals dat should be caged wen u want to make a point addressing ppl dat wear fur or something.secondly peta has no right whatsoever to convince the world to become vegetarians.if u must bother KFC about sellin chickens, convince them to stop killin chicks or goslings.its not right.dats just like killin and eating babies. there r a million and one ways to approach a cause. dont be violent or try to run ppl out of their business, its not right

I am pleased to see a celebrity is aware of one of the many many tragic issues that are taking place all over the world. It's great to directly address the abuse these helpless, living, breathing, seeing, thinking creatures are forced to live with, but I am also concerned with the long term affects these factory style processed chickens and other animals will have on us by eating them. What I mean is how sanitary is the inside and outs of animals before they are slaughtered and after. We might as well start producing human slaughter houses and sell our meat and feet and eyeballs because there's meat surrounding our bones throughout our bodies too. We are willing to ignore the fact that animals have brains that work in the same manner as humans. Our brains were just blessed with some more development thats all. Although PETA is a great organization with very optimistic concepts, the greed and selfishness of human beings will have to be taken on in a war like fashion. Majority always rules...

Let's focus on reality Ryan. They are called chicks not Babies? Let us use some common sense and big boy terms.

Not that it has been said but thank you Ryan thank you peta for putting this up it lets people know the right thing to do about animals even though some people like to poison others with bad information and make them not have there own mind animals know when we are hurting, dying, sad, happy, angry, sick, or even dead because they respond with love and in some ways in rage and that is the only way they can respond so don't kill animals even if they have done something to you they don't mean it they forgive and forget truthfully forget so much easier then humans and in most cases they are even more humanly then humans like rappists, drug dealers that fight their dogs, rodeo riders that scare those horses and bulls to drive them to madness, stupid hunters that hunt just for sport and not for survival bluggeners that hit baby seals, raccoons, anything that has beauty on the outside and flaunt it around like it is something beautiful and uncruel because you wear death on you like it is your skin what would you do without your skin most likely suffer then die of shock and bleed to death slowly and let people be entertained by stupid sport that has anything to do with "breaking" an animal. GOD didn't put these animals on this earth to be abused. I can give even more of an opinion but i can't at the hour cause i have to go to bed.Again thank you ryan, peta, and any other peta supporter for putting this up. Also thank you for letting me vent out some of my frustrations. much love, Bethany

You should know that John Bitove just did a huge benefit called One night for the Sunnybrook hospital. It would be interesting to show on one hand he is working towards helping babies in a neo natal unit and on the other abusing defensless chickens. i can't believe a man with that much money and supposedly the heart in the right place for some things would let this happen. I hope he listens.

Ryan Gosling is adorable, one of my favorites. I must have a sense about actors because I also love Joaquin Phoenix & he also speaks out for animals rights & is a vegetarian. Great thing to do, animals need all the help they can get. When I pass my KFC it makes me feel ill, how can people patronize such a inhumane food chain? I know most have heard of Peta's campain about cruelty to chickens, yet their business seems to be booming!

Who gives a flying rip what some Hollywood Wacko thinks?
I sure don't.
Why celebs feel inclined to expressed their warped views upon others is purely insane. Duh... I know, so they can make a name for themselves and sell more tickets, thereby lining their own pockets.
Love that chicken. You want fries with that?
