Offset Al Gore!

Here’s how this works: By neglecting to address the number one cause of global warming, Al Gore—as one of the world’s most prominent environmental advocates—is arguably doing a fair bit of damage to his cause. So if he’s not going to set an example by boycotting the industry that generates 40 percent more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, ships, and planes in the world combined … well, somebody needs to pick up the slack.
Which is where OffsetAlGore.com comes in. Visitors to the site can learn the full extent of the meat industry’s role in causing global warming, and actually do something to help stem the tide by taking a pledge to go vegetarian for 30 days. That's enough time to prevent the release of more than 270 pounds of carbon dioxide into the Earth's atmosphere, and a more effective way of combating pollution than giving up driving every weekday for the same amount of time. As PETA VP Bruce Friedrich puts it:
"Visitors to OffsetAlGore.com can undo some of the damage that Al Gore is doing to the environment every time he sits down to a steak. Mr. Gore's own addiction to meat is adding to the very crisis he's devoting his life to stopping."
Anyway, check out the site, take the pledge (if you haven’t already), and let me know what you think of the campaign. We’re big admirers of Al Gore’s work here, but it really seems like the guy is doing his own cause a serious disservice by avoiding the single most important issue facing the environment today.

Good Lord,
When I watched Gore on 60 minutes 3 weeks ago they showed the outside of his house, cattle were everywhere, everywhere.
His dad use to raise cattle, so does this lier.
Shit he talked about it in his movie, they raised cattle.
This is about him and when I say that I mean the me, me,me's. And I am not giving up meat! So there, sounds so much like him.
His friends are ranchers.
Robert Kennedy jr started talking about giving up meat at least 4 times a week. Boy did they ever shut him up really quick.
My husband and I have not received another letter from him. And Robert was really gung ho on the idea. What happened and who shut him up?
What a shame.
Gore, grow a brain and let's really do something about Global Warming.
You can do so much right in your own kitchen.....
Peace!

I believe Al Gore is what you call a limosine Liberal!

Why are we attacking someone who is actively trying to help the environment? Because he's not absolutely perfect? That's just counter-productive. There are probably only about 400,000 better candidates for scorn.

Is Al Gore really serious about the whole green issue or does he just want to remain in the political run?

Al Gore is a joke. Eating flesh is bad for the environment in many ways; also let's never forget the horror the animals endure both in factory farms and in the abominations called slaughterhouses. Live simply so that others may simply live.

Al Gore is a poser. He does not care about anything except his dreams of becoming president. When his crusade against youth culture failed to get him anywhere, he tried posing as an environmentalist. That failed, too. He pulled out of the 2008 race when he found he had no chance of winning. Now that he's given up any hope of being president, we'll see if there's anything else he cares about. Maybe just getting his face on TV. He sure doesn't care about the planet, that's for sure.

I am a PETA supporter, a vegetarian, and have posted on several topics, however, I must say that those who are attacking Al Gore know little about his "dreams and crusades." He has tried to bring exposure to a growing problem and a good cause, yet because he lacks an "all-or-nothing" approach to his activism, he is ridiculed with almost the same passion as Charlton Heston. Change takes time and needs people to engender that change. We must not marginalize and alienate those who work for the betterment of our world, even if some of their behavior is inconsistent with their message.
I agree that one cannot be a true environmentalist or animal lover if one continues to eat meat, but as I said, change has to start somewhere. I ate meat for the first 30 years of my life, and this summer will celebrate one year of being meat-free. I do, however, still drink (organic) milk and eat (free-range, organic) eggs. I have even taken my son to (gasp!) the zoo, but I am in the process of writing a letter to the editor to the local newspaper (which I will sign with my MD) denouncing the circus which is coming to town next week and encouraging the local businesses to quit giving out free tickets for these cruel events.
Am I a hypocrite? Am I not a supporter of animal rights and environmental issue because I have some "flaws" in my diet and behavior? To the surprise of my wife, I have become very passionate in my support for PETA over the past few months, yet I can easily see how many people get burned out and turned-off when they are repeatedly bashed by people who believe in the same causes.
I believe in PETA, not because of, but in spite of the comments of some of the most vocal "supportive" posters on this site and enjoy engaging in debate with someone such as Dr. Cochran rather than reading messages filled with contempt or nothing more than "pats on the backs."
I hope that Al Gore does quit raising cattle and eating meat, but in the meantime, I am happy that he is actively raising awareness for a cause in which he believes rather than acting like yet another apathetic uncaring human.

I am trying to get many peaple to go earth friendly and my self trying also. The earth friendly automobiles are expensives but will try to get one. I am also trying to get people to go earth friendly in there homes with possible wind mill type devices. It is all about the almighty buck that makes it hard. All it takes is one home with a earth friendly home and a erth friendly car,the rest will hopefully follow.

Don't worry everyone.I am an avid hunter. I'll offset your vegetarianism by eating venison and pork every day.
