Is the Canadian Fur Council Lying About Its "Product"?

… So say a number of Canadian consumers, who have just filed a formal complaint against the Fur Council of Canada (FCC) with the Competition Bureau of Canada. The complaint—which has been signed by representatives of animal protection groups from British Columbia to Nova Scotia—alleges that the FCC has attempted to gain an unfair competitive advantage by using preposterous claims that fur production is “Eco-Friendly” and that people who choose fur alternatives are damaging the environment because of the energy that’s required to make faux fur.
In fact, the opposite is true. Not only are fur garments treated with toxic chemicals to keep them from decomposing, but fur production—which government agencies around the world have identified as a major pollutant—poisons waterways and consumes resources at an alarming rate. It is estimated that it takes 15 times as much energy to produce a fur coat from ranch-raised animals as it does to produce a faux-fur coat. Not to mention the pain and suffering and the existence of natural fibres like cotton, etc.
And it’s against the rules to lie in order to gain a competitive advantage. So the FCC needs to stop it. I’ll let you know how that goes.

The FCC is lying. They are simply making a backwards attempt to appeal to the enviromental green trend.How about we just do not wear any fur real or fake! Crushing thousands of seal skulls and raising animals in feces incrusted chicken wire is not exactly green or earth friendly.Fur Farms and utterly unnatural and cruel. If you have ever heard the FCC speak on other issues you will notice they are full of ****. Wear your own bloody skin! Anal electricity is a sick practice as is beating animals to death.

Yes, they are lying. I've seen, and sometimes responded to, their op-eds and letters in Canadian publications. I'm sure one of their reps will put a post on here.
The degree of their spin, feigned outrage, and hyperbole is breathtaking. They have called fur protesters "eco-fascists" and "members of a P. C. hate group."
They try to make fur look like a traditional Aboriginal pursuit, when in Canada only 3% of the industry supports the Aboriginal hunters and trappers (according to to the International Fur Trade Federation).
In short, they would do better as reps for the fertilizer industry, since they produce high-quality verbal manure in abundance.

At a protest I was involved in this past winter outside a store what sold fur, the owner had arranged for a red carpet for us, and also had a rep from the FCC there to hand out pro-fur pamphlets to counter our anti-fur ones.

I can't believe anybody is dumb enough to believe that fur is okay for the environment. "It's biodegradeable!" they say. Yeah, BEFORE they used about fifty different toxic chemicals to keep it from rotting off your back in the space of a few months!

Ref. to seal hunting: I feel that the Canadian government is laughing in our faces in front of the world and gives a shit about our opinion as long as its power is safe....money rules the world and if it was going to loose power not acting ethicaly than it would change......its time to show that the power the governments have is in our hand!!!! V like Vendetta so we all have to do the impossible to change the reality. I wrote to mexican Governement - as I live in Mexico - to bann the primitive practices officialy.....we all must do something about it. My friends told me that many years people protest agains animal killing and it didnt stop the big killing practices and bloody traditions.....its time to show that we can stop it.

Are they for real!? Wake up!! There are only a hand full of Inuit peoples that still exsist from the far regions of our planet that havn't yet been civilized into modern day living and whom still use wild animals for their meat and fur! I don't agree BUT thats all they know for now and the "only" ones who should get away with it. WE on the other hand have the luxury of modern day conveniences like synthetics readily available should we want to keep warm here in the north! There should be no excuse for wearing fur! And Down, leather and wool! Enoughs, enough already!! The animals need THEIR skin we have our own!!!

Ahhh....to be a Canadian right now. Not something I can say I'm proud of. I see first hand how "uncompassionate" and delusional our law makers actually are. We let people walk free after torturing and dragging a dog behind a vehicle. We openly export beautiful horses (who don't win on the race track) to places like Mexico to get slit nose to naval in slaughter houses, and we justify the senseless *VIOLENT* slaughter of baby harp seals (all in the name of "job creation")!!!!!!!!! It bloody well outrages me. Our laws are so lacks in this country when it comes to the protection of animals (both domestic & wild), I can't even begin to comprehend. The idea/argument that using real fur is more "eco-friendly" than manufacturing faux fur, is outrageous. The law makers may have power, but as consumers we also have power....power to stop endorsing/buying etc., any animal skin. NO DEMAND....NO SUPPLY!
