"Brigitte Bardot asked Pamela to fill in for her today at her annual news conference to protest the Canadian seal slaughter (Brigitte is ill and couldn't make it). Pam of course did an amazing job. We arrived at Bardot's offices to a swarm of press. Pam read a 1-page statement about how, as a Canadian, she is appalled that the seal hunt continues...she described in graphic detail how the seals are beaten to death, and encouraged consumers to boycott designers who work with any fur. She then screened a graphic 2-minute video of the seal slaughter. The press were stunned. After a few words from the Bardot Foundation's campaigns director, Bardot herself called and was put on speakerphone...in front of all of the press, she thanked Pamela for continuing on the campaign in her place, and in broken English called Pam her daughter and her Valentine. Pam was so moved; it was very sweet. Pam was then presented with a heart-shaped bouquet of roses and a personal letter from BB. Then off we went to the Canadian embassy (with AP reporter and photographer and about 15 paparazzi in tow) where Pamela asked to see the Canadian ambassador so she could personally deliver a letter from BB to him in protest of the seal slaughter. Photographers went wild. We were turned away at security, but it made a great photo and a shocked guard promised to hand over the letter for her."
If you want to know what all the fuss is about, you can watch the footage Pam screened for press (and sign a petition asking the Canadian government to stop the seal hunt) here, and there are a few pics from the event here. Thank you Pam and Brigitte!

The seal hunt is a disgrace to "most" CIVILIZED people. Being Canadian I'm embarrassed of the Government and greed for not stepping up to the plate and ending this senseless slaughter. Just to keep a few easterners' happy or sould I say wealthy is not justified, I'm sorry! Seal pelts, for what!! No one wears Seal not here anyway! Can someone please tell me where 350,000+ seal skins' are going pr two months out of the year when they're not even weened from their mothers!? SOOOO BARBARIC!! Makes me SICK to my stomach!! What a waste! There's only a handful of sealers (Killers) that have their dirty hands in it and have been able to convince the Government that there's money to be had and this is THEIR livelihood! Just cause they live by the ocean DOESN'T mean they OWN it!!

I have SO much admiration for Pamela Anderson. She could so easily be spending all of her time and energy for her myopic self-interest, and instead she is always using her very special situation to improve the world. You're a true inspiration, Pam.
PS Has a celebrity ever changed his or her middle-name to GoVeg.com? :-)

i'm just enjoying these rare moments of saint valentine: my two beloved stars pamela anderson and brigitte bardot united for to save the seals! since years my heart is broken because of this horrible massacre every year with the full approvement of the canadian government! what a shameful crime! this shows us that also legal things can be criminal! they are even worse: an officially recognized unlegal crime can be persecuted by law - a volunarily governmental approved crime cannot be persecuted by law! but for lack of it we got PETA and these two heroic ladies - and i'm sure that one day real justice shall win and that the baby seals shall be save!

Pamela re-defines what a celebrity can do to help animals! |I wish there was many more Hollywood pin ups just as devoted as she is to animal rights!
Way to go Pam, Ireland loves you!

Pam and Brigitte—two candidates for the Animal Rights Hall of Fame!

As a Canadian, I am ashamed of my country for this uncivilized act. Canada is better than that. These helpless, adorable creatures need our protection. Particularly, since we are already destroying their habitat. Pamela Anderson totally rocks! A true example of inside beauty as much as outside beauty. She is absolutely stunning. Her continued support and dedication towards animal rights is immensely admirable. Love you Pam! You're simply fabulous.

Pammy,
Thank you for everything you do for the animals.
I find it amazing that as busy as your are that you take so much time out to help the earthlings.
Bless your heart.
Don't ever go away.
Peace!

Pam is such a devoted sweetheart. And a strong woman!
I don't know why Canadians are so ashamed, almost every country in the world has heinous abuses. Not that it's okay, but it's not as though drowning cats in the name of science or waterboarding sick cows is BETTER than bludgeoning seals. It's not a contest.
Canadians have amazing communities and I'm sure that with enough unity, Canada could become one of the most humane countries.
More chance there than in the US, I think.

hell, if you want to shoot an animal, get a picture! much cuter than a fur coat and more humane too!

As a Canadian I can say this is the black stain I carry with me everywhere I go. I must tell everyone that Canada has added another seal hunt to the mix. As we speak, 2,500 grey seal pups are being bashed in the head off the coast of Nova Scotia. These fishermen are not trained and are using bats to stun the seals. The problem is that grey seals' skulls are harder than harp seals' skulls, so bashing them over the head is not stunning them, it's just causing them extreme and prolonged suffering.
The slaughter is being carried out with no scientific justification, other than the stupid reasons given for decades: "seals eat too much fish and destroy fishing gear".
In Canada, what a whining fisherman wants, a whining fisherman gets. That's the law. In this case, fishermen clamored for the heads of the seals and got their wish.
I encourage everyone to contact the Nova Scotia government and tell them you know what's going on and that you will not visit Nova Scotia until all seal hunts stop. If anyone here eats seafood (I hope you don't), make sure the lobsters you consume don't come from Nova Scotia, Canada. Pass this info along. Their dirty little secret is out!!!

You are my hero Pamela Anderson. You are for the animals, and we LOVE you for that. I don't care what they say about you, you are what they call a "true woman" who has a heart and always steps forward for the fair treatment of animals. We need more people like you!!! Keep up the good work Pamela, for your a true good hearted woman, and my favorite.

As a Canadian, I am utterly horrified that my country, which is supposedly famous for being really "nice" and friendly, would continue to condone this hunt.
Fortunately, I think that only a small percentage of the population actually supports the hunt, and these would mainly be the hunters themselves, their families, and the small communities where they are from.
Unfortunately, the government DOES continue to support the hunt.
So far, the most effective things that have resulted in changes over the years are the bans on seal fur in other countries. Hit them in the old pocketbook!
Canada also unfortunately supports the British guards with their bear hats made from Canadian black bears...

Marcy,
Today I just received an email from HSIC.
I sent a letter to Premier Rodney Mac Donald to let him know how my family and friends felt about this slaughter to the little Greys.
Thank you so much for the heads up!
Michele,
You are right, so few Canadians support this slaughter.
The people that run both of our countries have very little respect for Animal Welfare.

I'm so proud to be a CANADIAN along with my hero Pam Anderson. Pam you are awesome, and am so glad you've choose PETA, the animals need us to speak for them. Pam was the reason I chose to support Peta in their work. It makes me sick to my stomach to think of these seals slaughtered the way they are. Pam, Brigitte, keep up your wonderful work. Thanks so much

It's good to know that most Canadians do not support seal hunting and I look forward to the day when it ends, which will be a glorious one indeed for humanity.

I would like to repeat all that has been said on this blog regarding seal hunting. It is a cruel and unecessary practice. The poor baby seals must go through hell seeing their mum seals getting destroyed, and likewise the mums for their babies.I am so saddened by this. I admire and respect Pamela Anderson for her campaigning.I am seeing her in a London panto in December, and I hope to send her a card and flowers at the show to say that I appreciate her efforts in this, as we all do.
