But everybody had a good time in the end. Ben Franklin himself—who once suggested that the turkey should be America’s national bird instead of the bald eagle—tried some of the delicious faux turkey sandwiches distributed by PETA’s lettuce ladies at his birthday bash in Philadelphia, and commented that he was the person who first brought tofu to the U.S. Thanks for that, Ben. Seriously. Here are some pics:

There are some brands of faux meats that are even better than the real thing.

Sounds like a fun, positive event. But you need to have some Lettuce Lads!

who is this incredibly cute veggie lady at all of these events?! kudos to her... she must be freezing! it is definitely worth it to stand in frosty temperatures half naked so that maybe someone will go veggie!

Now, that's great! The more people find out that you can eat WELL and NOT eat meat, the more animals will be spared. Excellent.

I can't believe that you didn't mention that old Ben was a vegetarian himself for a good part of his adult life. He called it his "vegetable diet."

haha awsome hope some of these people get the right message and go veggie lol she must freezing as hell out there

The real Ben Franklin would have adored the PETA Lettuce Ladies. He would also have been excited by "faux" meats, being the good scientist that he was.

Makes me think about having a Tofurkey and soy cheese on whole wheat with dijon mustard right about now.
