The Los Angeles City Council has just announced that a meeting will be held on Friday morning to discuss a historic ordinance that would require virtually all dogs and cats in Los Angeles to be spayed or neutered. If you happen to live in L.A. and have an urge to whisper sweet words of encouragement into your council member’s ear, you can find his or her phone number at http://www.lacity.org/council.htm. Just let 'em know that you support the spay-neuter ordinance, and you’re hoping they will too. Council members love that sort of thing. You can also attend the meeting to show your support.
If you don’t live in L.A., there’s probably not all that much you can do about this particular bill, but at least you don’t have to deal with the lousy traffic conditions they have in that city. That’s gotta be worth something, right? There’s also tons of information about how you can help cats and dogs in your community right here. And to continue with a theme started earlier this week, here’s a criminally adorable pro spay/neuter spot, starring animated kittens.

The breeders don't want this because they'll have to get licensed and maybe pay taxes. Uh oh!
The breeders will say and do anything to keep running their secret businesses.
And they have connections in the media. For example, Christie Keith of the San Francisco Chronicle shills for breeder interests and tells fibs about mandatory spay neuter.
She lobbies for her breeder pals.
It's a disgrace that the SF Chroonicle has someone who is a lobbyist for the breeding business pretending to be a pets article writer and journalist.
What a charade.

And what's worse is that the San Francisco Chronicle hides the fact that Christie Keith is a breeder and belongs to breeder lobbying groups.
They don't even mention it! While she uses their publication to promote money breeder interests and oppose things like spay neuter laws with silly lies from her breeder lobbying organizations.
And protect the tax cheat activity of her breeder pals.
Talk about corrupt journalism.
There are other fake "journalists" in CA doing the same thing.
No wonder pets keep dying in huge numbers in the state.
And the state has a budget deficit while tax cheat businesses go unregulated and untaxed with help from friends in the media.

The Animal Shelter Commission of Dallas, Texas just recommended mandatory spay/neuter to the City Council.

That's right. If you don't like the statistics and information, attack the journalist. Very clever.
Christie Keith is one of the best pet writers writing today. Her work for the Chronicle and for petconnection.com have been terrific. No one provided better investigation and coverage of the pet food recalls last year than she did.
If you would do any checking or look at her sources you would find that she's not making up figures or "fibs" about mandatory spaying and neutering.
Sorry if you don't like to hear from a prominent, objective journalist who doesn't say what you want to hear.

Christie Keith is NOT a "journalist." She is a DOG BREEDER and a DOG BREEDER LOBBYIST.
She is directly involved in the world of for-profit dog breeding and their lobbying and political activity.
Her fake "facts" about mandatory spay/neuter come from PAID LOBBYISTS FOR DOG BREEDERS. Industry propaganda.
And she uses her column to propagandize for the industry, the BUSINESS that she is involved with.
And she knows there is a conflict and a bias because she HIDES ANY MENTION of her dog breeding and lobbying activities in her columns.
And Christie Keith has a side business working for a pet industry SALES organization. Breeders.
Carlotta is another pretend "journalist" who is a shill for the dog breeding INDUSTRY.
And they both share their activities with Gina Spadafori of petconnection, another pretend "journalist" that is connected to the for-profit DOG BREEDING INDUSTRY and writes "articles" that are merely propaganda for dog breeding financial interests.
Gina got Christie her job at the SF Chronicle and used to work for the Sacramento Bee, where she can still get her friends there to write pro-breeder propaganda and pretend it is "journalism."
Breeders don't want regulation or rules. They have nice, hidden, unregulated, untaxed businesses now and they want to keep it that way.
These shills for the breeding industry that pretend to be unbiased "journalists" pump out a steady stream of propaganda and misinformation to help maintain this breeder status quo.
It's about business, the money.
It sure as heck isn't journalism.

And even worse, Gina & Christie & Carlotta & company post lots of gushy congratulatory comments on each other's articles that support the fabrications and lies and propaganda.
It's like a street corner con game.
Only this lobbying and fakery is going on in the media under the guise of JOURNALISM.
Disgusting.

There's no such thing as "ethical" breeding.
Reason 1: Animals are being killed everyday due to lack of homes.
Reason 2: It reinforces the speciesist ideology that animals exist for our use.
I'm glad to see PETA producing these ads. We need more positive outreach like this to get the message out.

Kelly,
I just love your posts (well-researched and knowledgeable), but don't you get tired from all the BS you have to shovel? :)

I have gotten the Florida legislature to file a bill-and it was done on the day of Obama's inauguration :-), HB 451, mandatory spay/neuter law. Please support it. I feel Florida will become the first State in the nation with such a law, and I can guarantee once that happens, I can get OTHER states to follow. THE PET CARNAGE MUST END!!! And dog pounds-in each county-is COSTING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO OPERATE EVERY SINGLE YEAR (Miami Dade in 2007 spent a whooping TEN MILLION DOLLARS-in 2007 alone-mostly for killing dogs and cats, kittens and puppies-homeless, unwanted. That is considered a low kill shelter. 33,000 died. That was in 2007. It's far worse now. EVERYTIME A BREEDER LETS THEIR DOG OR CAT BREED, IT TAKES AWAY FROM COUNTY MONIES WHICH ALSO FUNDS EDUCATION AND LAW ENFORCEMENT-IT TAKES AWAY FROM PUBLIC SAFETY AND EDUCATION-BECAUSE THAT MEANS A SHELTER DOG OR CAT *DIES*. And THE STATE must also fund law enforcement and education. Hello folks-if you have a problem in society, you must create a law to address it. It CLEARLY DEFINES SOMETHING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! And yeah there are already low cost spay/neuter programs. But people FAIL and REFUSE to use them. It's even free for low incomed/finanical assistance people-they still refuse to use them. Why? They don't have to. IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO LET THEIR CAT OR DOG BREED, and MOST PEOPLE when they get a cat they just throw it outside and let it do whatever. It happens to be the truth. The whole Truth. So help me God.
People get away with what they are allowed to get away with. SUPPORT MANDATORY SPAY/NEUTERING LAWS!!!
Thank you!
Luke
