Two members of PETA Asia Pacific hijacked a fur seminar at Hong Kong Fashion Week today to ensure that attendees got the animals’ side of the story as well. Here’s what PETA Asia Pacific’s Rebecca Chui had to say about it:
“We want the Fashion Week attendees to know that fur means cruelty to animals. They suffer terrible pain from the time they are caught. Some of them are skinned alive. Some are killed by poisoning, gassing or anal or vaginal electrocution. We are in the 21st century and there is fur substitute now. There's no excuse to kill any more animals.”
Asked for comment on this statement, the Hong Kong Fur Federation called it “extremely regrettable”—by which I can only assume they meant “bad for business.” Which, well, fair enough. I can’t imagine that they would have chosen these images themselves to represent their nasty little promotional event in the international media:

Wow, I'm glad people are able to physically be there and let those people know that their ethics in the fur trade is unacceptable. I'm so happy that there are people letting China know that their cruel practises towards animals are illegal to the rest of the world. They need to set up animal welfare and protection laws. China's practises are just too cruel and need to be condemned. Thumbs up to protesters.

I hope Peta is planning major protests at the upcoming Olympics in China, since China supplies the bulk of dog and cat fur to the world!

animals are here to eat and to wear. the consumers and workers are not to blame for what is happening. their governments and the big corporatons are to blame for this cruelty. they are the ones keeping people in poverty, forcing them to do such terrible things. you will never stop cruelty, because human beings are evil. stop the bankers, governments, businessmen in big corporations...and you might make a difference. have them cut their profits by instituting more humane ways of slaughtering the animals. have the governments provide decent work for their people to earn a living, and make essentials more affordable. then they wont be forced to do those things to survive. make the corporations AND their directors accountable for the cruelty thats going on. do all these things and you will have made a difference...anything else is a waste of time - it will change when human nature changes....never.

I think that anyone who can and allow the pain and suffering of these animals for the sake of money is very unstable and should be on medicine and be stopped!I can't imagine what goes on inside someones head, that could justify this kind of behavior...........scary

Fur farms:- inhumane conditions;
barbarous behavior toward animals while taking their lives for fur - unbelievable, and unacceptable!

it's not surprising that a country whose economy is still based on slave labour, would be emotionally evolved enough to recognize cruelty done to animals.

Thank God someone is doing something about the fur industry! I just saw the most horrific footage of an animal being skinned alive. Truly shocking.
Thanks PETA for the time effort and money you all spend on helping these animals.
I am sure you get heaps of crap about what you do but plenty of us are truly grateful. Myself included.

It is time to bring conscience to China regarding their horrible misdeeds towards these poor animals! I can't understand how such hideous crimes are permitted by law! What kind of lawmakers are these rascals? Hence my thanks and admiration for these great PETA-people! I open my heart for you - put you inside and throw the key away - so nobody and nothing can take you off!

I've been seeing alot of fur wearers lately and I don't know if the stats would show a decline or it's on the raise here in Canada, maybe I'm just looking harder to find trashy people wearing fur! Nevertheless we have to fight for the freedom of animals no matter where we live! And Hong Kong/China is a hard ball place to shake, so I commend Peta Asia and give full support in all that you do,offending or not, Go Peta Go!!

Carla,
Are you sure that you are seeing real fur? I live in a cold climate and see "fur" trim on coats all the time (some of them trashy!) but the vast majority of it would be fake (these are not expensive coats people are wearing.) Most people don't spend that kind of money on a coat for daily use, whether they oppose fur or not. I'll bet there really isn't a big rise in real fur being worn around in Canada.

Rich people think its classy wearing fur but i think they are sick wearing dead animal. They should be shown the videos that how these fur coatd been made by killing innocent animals just for pleasure. Love you peta guys. Something really really should be done about chinese fur farms. When the buying stops killing will too.

ah women! what they need to feel beautiful-clip this and you solve the problem of abuse to animals!

I've never seen anything more devastating than the kind of torture Chinese fur farms inflict on animals. How any human being can support this practice is beyond me. Perhaps when the world arrives in China for the Olympics, protesters can make an impact deep enough to force a change.

No Ashes, it's real fur I'm seeing! Maybe from Hand-me-Downs! But nevertheless it's wrong and it gives people around them wanting to buy! Hence, the cycle continues...

animals are hear to eat and to wear?.. hey chris (the caveman) why dont you crawl back into your cave, we did not evolve as carnivores (pcrm.org) vegan eating habits eliminate ARTERY CLOGGING animal fat and cholesterol, the long, intricate, winding human digestive tract is ill-suited to digesting and expelling flesh food which is quickly decomposed. among many other PHYSIOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES, when the blood supply is completely blocked, the result is the death of part of the heart muscle (myocardial infarction) HEART ATTACK. this blockage also occurs in the arteries to the brain. when they close off, part of the brain dies A STROKE.. no wonder dick cheney (regis philbin dave letterman ect) has a HISTORY of heart problems.

I am simply appauled at human greed and the suffering animals endure for our our pleasure... How do these people sleep at night? After the very first PETA video I watched I vowed to never again be a part of the cruelty.I have been a Veg Head for almost two years along with my 10 year old daughter. But the fur industry is most definetly the most ridiculous of all. Please dont Eat or wear an animals fur!

Hey Kelley..if animals are here to eat and to wear, would you mind if I skinned you alive? I would LOVE a new coat this winter and beige goes with everything! If the idea of the pain you might endure bothers you, dont worry, Ill shove a stun gun up your rear first and slit your throat and watch you bleed out. After all, you are an animal, so the words came straight from your mouth right? Far as I can see ,its why God put you here..FOR ME:) PS..the negative attitude ?? look in the mirror and maybe you will see how to make a change. PETA seems to have changed quite a bit in my eyes..they changed me.

Christine, great post! I am amazed though at how many people just cannot put themselves in that situation - they somehow find a way to justify these barbaric actions.
Those of you who think that fur is cool - you do know that you are wearing embalmed animal carcasses don't you? How else do you think they manage to prevent the skins from rotting?

My mistake on the earlier comment--that was intended for Chris, the "blame everyone else,,, my choices are not my responsibility" person.Hey, let me know how that belief is working for you elsewhere in your life..feeling pretty powerless I bet:) Sorry about that Kelley..you rock!!

"Fur Hurts"
Hmm, looks like she tripped, didnt THAT hurt?

Can I please get a list of your main contributers? As far as I know
you are funded by Rockefeller and the UN, trying to pass laws for
Agenda 21. I really wonder why anyone would blindly go along
without every questioning whose agenda they are actually fulfilling.
