I just saw an HBO film on PETA, an organization that I have heard alot about and mostly admired, too.
One of the comments made by the narrator was that PETA opposes having pets..is that true?
I would never ever harm my pet (she's a white boxer...really rare !). So I wanted to understand this, if true. I can understand that you would oppose a cruel owner...but what about the rest of us?

Anthony, thats not what really was said. Ingrid Newkirk says she does not have any companion animals because she is gone all the time and if she were to have any that it would be cruel because of that.

my advice: dont get a pet.

I think some people are against owning pets because they want to prove the point that its wrong to breed animals out of peoples selfish wants... i personally have always taken in strays and have always adopted them from my local animal shelters not from breeders!

I agree with Jessica.
Besides, I'd much rather have a rescued mutt than a pretty, primpy, pure bred. (Not to mention expensive!) But there are some breeders out there very similar to a shelter, where I got my pekingese, Izzy. The woman had rescued two purebred pekingese and decided to breed them and sell the puppies.

Anyways, that's a bit off topic. I'm not necessarily the responsible pet owner because I'm still a teen, but that's still no excuse. I feed my pets and let them outside, and take really good care of them, but my mom is really the 'pet-owner' of the household.

lol PETA does not oppose having pets. They oppose the breeding of them and the inhumanity in pet stores and keeping certain wild animals as pets. Birds, fish, reptiles, small mammals, all should be left in the wild and not purchased! There are thousands in rescues everywhere!!!!!

Who says pure breds are primpy? its still a dog and cant help it was born a purebred. and any breeder that breedes a dog to sell it just to have a little cash is not really a breeder at all.
