Update: The event was a huge success! Pam dished out plate after plate of the faux turkey, which was a big hit with the guests at the homeless shelter. Check out these exclusive pics:

Pamela Anderson will be spending some time at a homeless shelter in Las Vegas this evening to serve an early Thanksgiving dinner to homeless families in the area. And Pam’s act of charity will also be setting an example for people who want to make Turkey Day a bit kinder on the turkeys, as the dinner she’s serving is 100 percent vegetarian, with Garden Protein’s amazing faux turkey as its centerpiece. All of the veggie turkey (which you can get in any Whole Foods, btw) was donated by the folks at Garden Protein. Here’s what Pam had to say about the event,
"The holiday season can be especially hard for those who find themselves homeless. And it's murder on turkeys. With so many healthy and delicious options nowadays, it's easy to have a holiday meal that gives even turkeys something to be thankful for."
Pam was inspired to host the event after she saw video footage from PETA's recent investigation at a turkey slaughterhouse, which showed workers striking and handling birds so roughly that the animals suffered broken bones. Not to be too much of a downer here since this is a really positive story, but the footage is heartbreaking, and it shows standard practices in turkey slaughterhouses around the country, which should make anyone think twice about eating turkeys this Thanksgiving.
The good news is that there are some wonderful alternatives, and if you’re trying to come up with a menu for your Thanksgiving dinner this year, you could do a whole lot worse than the feast that Pam is serving tonight, including Veggie Stuffed Turkey Roast with wild rice and cranberries donated by Garden Protein, mashed potatoes with veggie gravy, and garlic-braised collards.
I’ll have pictures of the event up later tonight, so be sure to check back!
And if you’re still undecided about whether to have an all-vegetarian Thanksgiving this year, this is the footage from our recent investigation which inspired Pam to host the event.

I love turkey's, as pets, not to eat them. Can you imagine if all the people in the world would just take a moment to look at these filthy, hell holes these birds are killed in. I'm sure they wouldn't be saying "pass the turkey, please" at dinner! Well the saying goes if all the slaughter houses had windows, we'd all be vegetarian.

I bought already tofurky to invite my family to eat at least for 1 day no animals, I am vegetarian, but they aren't, I told them thanksgiving day is to thank for everything we are and we have, it is not to kill turkeys. Thanks to Pamela she has a great heart

Don't forget the other alternative, to skip Thanksgiving altogether. My Native American freinds have been forced onto the fringes of our society because of our government, and I don't like to celebrate that.
I like to spend time in the woods if I have this wretched "holiday" off.

It is wonderful to know that a well known star, such as Pamela Anderson is taking the lead to spread the message of helping and fighting for animal rights and their welfare. These are not just animals, they are breathing and living beings, with emotions and feelings, just like humans (sentinel beings).

Everything Pammy touches and does is wonderful. She is just a huge role model for so many. She is goofy, funny and silly but boy can that girl make a statement, I agree too bad PETA cannot find 1000 more celebs to use there power for this wonderful cause!! WE love you Pam... Wisconsin

I was there for the event and I have to say Pam was wonderful. We dished up the food and she served the food taking the time to speak with everyone especially the children. Also, the faux turkey is delicious, worth trying.

Faux turkey - what's in that stuff? If you become a vegetarian you should be eating fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds not fake, processed products. Gross!

I often find myself wondering whenever I see Pam Anderson hooking up with Peta on behalf of the animals if she is aware how extremely grateful people are for all that she has done in her activism. I hope she is given this feedback regularly so that she never burns out and leaves the movement like past female celebrity activists. I completely adore her and hope she stays in it for the longhaul.

And I hope that someday the PETA way will become the American way, the way we used to say, a long long time ago, the Canadian way, when it used to be more than international marketing and branding. And will replace the bloody Canadian bloody way.
So long Pam

I am the Director of Family Promise of Las Vegas where this event was held. Miss Anderson was graceful and did a great job of presenting the PETA Message. However, we are not a Soup Kitchen and my families are disappointed that more was not done to know who we are and what we do. The Photographers were very rude to Miss Anderson and we decided we are glad we are not famous. Please see the work we do at www.familypromiselv.com. We thought Miss Anderson was terrific...The press did not get enough information to know who she was helping...Too Bad...

Thank you Pamela for opening the eyes of so many that are just not aware of all the cruelty in these slaughter houses.
I cried when I watched this video, amongst all the other horrific ones with cruelty to animals.
How can people be so cruel, and live with themselves.
Keep up the good work, you are a treasure to all of us and the animals.
Was happy to see that this has also been seen worldwide.
Also, Nick De Beer, which is in South Africa, helping to educate over there.

I just wanted to debate a little on this topic of an all vegetarian thanks giving, me personaly i LOVE turkey!, and though its not the greatest the way they are killed isnt it true that there is a food chain in the world and we just happen to be at the top of it? like come on we are not eating people, its just a turkey with family whats wrong with that?
and to be honest the fake turkey Pam is serving doesn't look nearly as good as the real thing =)

liberal hippies. you disgust me. So do you or do you not support helping the homeless? when mike gallagher killed a cow and gave it to the homeless, you ppl went wild. I see that you valued the cow over thehomeless. Besides, God specifically wanted Man to rule over animals, not the other way around.

Conservative NO.1,
I am sorry to say that your comments came across as you being SO staunchly and seriously confused, that I believe any attempts to explain anything to you, would be a total waste of time.
Meantime, with you and other die-hard anti's who speak about what God wants and doesn't want, I really wonder when was the last time that all of you stepped in to a place of worship - AND truly follow the Bible.
Rafael Miranda,
I personally do NOT debate with any one who is against any part of a/r's because I believe it is not an issue that is debatable. There is NO debate about it: capture/enslavement, torture, abuse, killing of any sentinent beings is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, and totally unacceptable - especially by those of us who are conscienable, educated about a/r's, and sympathetic/empathetic about another's suffering.
However, I will say that some people -who are not particularly a/r's activists-totally abstain from eating meat for other reasons. I will also say that I am more than willing to educate and enlighten people who are open-minded and seriously want to learn about a/r's. It is only then that they can make an educated decision -without pre-conceived notions that would be hindered by argument or debate. Btw, I used to love to eat turkey too.

Pamela Anderson + fake turkey + food for homeless people = awesome. That was a great idea.
Posted by: J L Kabel | November 19, 2007 02:18 PM
Killing sentient beings to feed the homeless is not the solution most especially when there are plenty of delicious meals that do not add flesh. Being homeless does not make killing more acceptable. I have served delicious vegan meals to the homeless and they were most grateful and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious and healthy food, not to mention the cows, chickens, turkeys, sheep, goats and others that were pleased as well.

I have nothing against PETA, but why are you insulting my way of life by saying that meat is bad and we are terrible to the animals. We take quality care of the animals and the crap that all you see happens on 1 in a million farms. Try going to a normal small family farm and seeing what it is all about. o and good way of trying to cahnge peoples way of thinking by putting a chick with huge tits as a sponser, who wouldnt want 2 eat food that she gives you, i mean seriously

Hey Pamela this is Joseph Cruz have been one of your fans for a very long time you filmed Barbed Wire with my ex boyfriend. Just wanted to commend you on the stance you have taken to protect animals from being slaughtered. it would be great if there could be a movie made where us humans are the guiny pigs, kind of like Planet Of The Apes. All animals that are being killed can play different roles like rabbit people can be scientists, dogs can be security, etc. Its a way out there idea but people need to open their eyes and get involved and be empathic. I hope other celebrities get inspired by your work and use their fame to be bring light to this horrible problem. I have faith that this problem will one day be part of our history and not our future thanks to people like you. Your heart is just as beautiful as you are truly. Thank you for making a difference more power to you girl. God Bless.
Regards,
Joseph Cruz

Laura Lord, that is so wonderful that your eyes have been opened to what really happens to non-human animals on this earth. I stopped eating meat a few years ago and joined PETA at the same time. It has completely changed my life, and I feel so good that I am now able to spare the lives of animals.
It is too bad that many people still think that most farm operations have happy cows and chickens wandering around. Unfortunately, most animals used for meat are in factory-farm operations where the animals are just horribly treated. BILLIONS of animals are slaughtered every year, just for humans to use for their food. Now that I am aware of the horrific treatment suffered by these animals, I can't believe that I ever enjoyed eating meat. Just looking at it on the grocery store shelves makes me want to vomit now.
Pamela Anderson is a wonderful, kind person, who does so much for the animals. Just because she has big breasts does not mean that she can't speak up for animals! Honestly, some of the people commenting on this topic seem like complete idiots!

Cory Haywood,
(You might not be back to read this, but all is not lost if other people read it)
Please allow me to explain: it is a common misconception by non-a/r's activists of what a/r's activism is about.
Animal rights' activism is about justice, rights, and freedom...for those who cannot speak for themselves - the animals. The animals who are captured, enslaved, tortured, abused, exploited, mercilessly slaughtered, and used for barbaric, archaic, fruitless/meaningless experimentation.
It is a movement that is VERY parallel to so many other movements in the past that had made GREAT progress for society, such as: anti-slavery, anti-segregation/discrimination movements, women's right to vote, child labor laws, etc.
Animal Rights' is the grassroots movement about educating the public concerning SO many numerous aspects, in which ultimately it proves that ALL life is inter-related, and therefore, ALL life should be respected - and that ALL life -sentinent beings - have a right to live free from enslavement, abuse, torture, exploitation, and killing.
These evils -or negative forces- are the expressions and actions, et al, the direct results of mankind's greed, vanity, indifference, lack of conscience, lack of sympathy/empathy, and unjust superiority for sentinent beings that they consider to be inferior and are worthless - except for their selfish gain of the almighty dollar.(seems like the slaves, women, child laborers being inferior, and segregation, doesn't it?)
ALL of us- human animals and animals- only have this one world. And it is not until we realize that ALL life (including our fragile environment) should be respected and very, very carefully monitored for responsible stewardship...
Contrarily, we have hate, murders, destruction, and wars.
It is not until mankind respects and values ALL life, can we ever be at peace.
Yes, it can get quite heated -due to deeply passionate realizations and convictions by a/r/a's. However, just with the true examples mentioned above that made great strides for humanity, there was NOT one movement in history that did not have to deal with hostile adversities towards them, which was inclusive of any or all of imprisonment, beatings, killing, hate crimes, verbal abuse, etc. - which in turn the progressive activists did NOT retreat, but remained relentless for their causes. Therefore, we -as a/r/a's- cannot be submissive or apathetic towards our cause. We must FIRMLY speak out quite often (pertinent to each person), which unfortunately in turn, is misconstrued as "insults," "abrasive," and "forcing" people, telling them how they should live their lives. No, not at all. We either profoundly educate so that people can have the opportunity to make open-minded, justifiable, educated decisions.

and to Rafael Miranda & ConservativeNO.1, I hope someday you get treated like those poor innocent animals, then you'll understand. just because they are not human, dosn't mean they can't feel pain. Cory Haywood, I've been to one, and small one (actually two). one was a chicken farm where they raised chick to become fat in a crowded shed full of shit everywere u could hardly opean your mouth. the other was a dairy farm where they were standing in their feces up to their knees all day all.
and both these were small, family owned farms in the country part of virginia. I can only imagine what its like on bigger, more "modern" ones.

I became a vegetarian from seeing the horrific undercover videos and I forward them to my friends and family. Keep up the great work, Pamela, and Peta!
You know, the debate about whether or not humans have a God-given right to kill animals is long and heated. I am not a bible expert, so I can't really get into a debate about it. I was involved with a church for a while. And I learned many valuable teachings of Christ. The things he said really inspired us and gave us direction and answers to life's questions.
I remember one of his most wonderful teachings was 'do unto others as you would have done unto you.' Again, I am not an expert. But, it seems to me that animals are included in this teaching.
It's not hard to agree that the bible is quite out-dated in many of the things it says. It would be very difficult for women nowadays to accept that they are merely possessions of their husbands. However,in biblical times, it was quite natural. And we have seen the world renounce slavery. Yet in biblical times, it was the norm.
So, I think we're getting to a point where we simply need to ask ourselves, 'would I want someone to do this to me? or would I want others to respect my life, and give me the kindness they'd want in return?'
That's all.
God Bless.

i understand that all of you want animals to have their rights and everything and i agree that animals should not be abused, but what are we going to do with all the animals. if we let them out, they could way over populate....do you really want 400 pound hogs or 2500 pound bulls to be running wild through your city and actually putting humans in danger. meat is good
