Internet Soup!

Tasty_Internet_Soup.jpgI haven’t done one of these in a long time, but I’ve been getting so many great links lately that I thought I’d bring it back. Also, to be honest, I’m still recovering from yesterday’s tragic events, and I could use a little light relief. So here you go: The very best that the Internet has to offer this week on themes at least tangentially connected to animal rights. Enjoy!

  1. Miss Manners straight-up represents on uncivilized non-vegans.
  2. Deer: 1. Hunter: 0. I think I may have posted this one before at some point, but hey, it’s a winner. Thanks to Robert Maloney for sending in the link.
  3. Once you GoVeganRadio, you can never go back …
  4. PETA VP Dan Mathews talks about Nancy Reagan’s new coat
  5. This year’s most vegetarian-friendly university is revealed!
  6. Ingrid Newkirk’s letter to the editor about Matthew Scully’s Dominion was published in The New York Times today. You can find that here.
  7. And Alec Baldwin fights for healthier school lunches.

If that’s not enough to while away the last 20 minutes or so of your work day, you should have a listen to the segment about vegan Thanksgivings on NPR’s Splendid Table, featuring the good folks from Post Punk Kitchen. Definitely worth a listen if cooking’s your thing.

And when you’re finished with all that, why not treat yourself to the website I made about my recent trip to Canada. They didn’t let me in.

P.S. Don’t forget to check out I Am an Animal tonight on HBO!

I saw the PETA documentary on HBO. I was so mad at your organization. Dont you know the circle of life? Do you know that animals eat other animals? Is the law of survivor. You are terrorists. You people are crazy and dangerous to children. You are a threat to society. Look at your role models Pamela Anderson slutty blonde that makes money showing her body. Please give me a break.

Jack, too bad you were turned back at the border (WTF?). You would have had a great time.

That's one bad-ass deer. The hunter doesn't seem so brave without his surrogate penis.

Bob Linden of GoVeganRadio is absolutely have-you-in-stitches hilarious. Other good podcasts out there (I know I'm probably missing a few—my apologies) are animalvoices.ca, Erik Markus of vegan.com and Colleen Patrick-Goudreau of compassionatecooks.com.

You can also listen to some amazing podcasts at www.drmcdougall.com (Dr. John McDougall) and www.drfuhrman.com (Dr. Joel Fuhrman).

Sorry, Erik, I misspelled your name (Erik Marcus, Erik Marcus...)

Joe Colon,

Keep your namesake clean and cancer-free—go veg!

Joe Colon,
Hang in there for the day when out govt. labels you as a "terrorist" for so much as you possibly driving a SUV (which has already been said), or for protesting something that doesn't appeal to the govt's liking (which has already be said), or for being among those who are verbally and publicly protest about your/our freedoms being eroded one after the other, or any number of things that can and will arise.
Much to your surprise, you will suddenly discover one day that you are a "domestic terrorist" per our govt.
Not IF you find out, but WHEN you find out, please let us know.

Ariel

Oh so you are predicting that PETA will be the govt soon?

Which one is it Joe? On one hand you indicate that we're the same as other animals and therefore, being on the same intellectual level as them, can follow their example and eat meat to 'survive'.

Yet I'm sure if pressed you would state that we're smarter than other animals. In which case the argument that we're the same as other animals and need meat to survive becomes a moot point.

I think compassion and empathy are both valid human emotions which get conveniently waylaid when people want to justify eating meat.

Just be honest with yourself and realize that this is probably the first time you've ever felt indirectly threatened about what you eat. Eating is one of the most important functions in our daily lives, and so it's natural to feel offended that others have chosen to think about what they eat and you haven't.

Nobody is going to force you to stop eating meat so stop worrying about it right now and relax. You can keep up your lifestyle and let us live ours. But thinking about what you eat is a pretty worthy pasttime.
