Bird Flu Spreads in Britain

Following another outbreak of bird flu in Suffolk, 22,000 turkeys in four different sites were killed last week as a precaution to try and prevent the spread of the disease. The spread of bird flu, which is proving to be a very serious threat to the poultry industry and to humans who eat birds, is the direct result of the stressful, filthy, cramped conditions that chickens and turkeys are raised in on factory farms, and when it causes a major scare as it is currently in the UK, the corporations that run these farms act like it’s the biggest surprise in the world.
Setting that aside for a moment, here’s PETA’s handy, pocket-sized guide to preventing bird flu. Be sure to share it with your friends and family!
- Go vegetarian.
And here are some pics from PETA UK’s demonstration in Ipswich yesterday. Good stuff.

22,000 turkey's were killed. Once again the bird flu comes back! It'll never go away, soooo the only way to prevent it from returning is to not eat them and faze out all these damn farms that keep them so cruelly confined!!

from CNN.com
"The H5N1 avian influenza virus is not transmitted to humans through properly prepared and cooked food (even if contaminated with the virus prior to cooking), according the WHO Web site. "However, in a few instances, cases have been linked to consumption of dishes made of raw contaminated poultry blood."
More proof, if you needed more, that poultry should be cooked properly. And stop playing in poultry excrement.
Factory farms have little to do with the spread of bird flu( beyond the obvious fact that they contain susceptable birds). As the main spread vector is migratory birds in the wild, and their droppings, the only difference is that a farm is a bigger target than a backyard with a couple of chooks. Unfortunately more birds are destroyed when an outbreak is suspected on farms, factory or otherwise.

I saw some UK TV broadcasts about the outbreak and didn´t see any mention about the vile conditions of the breeding places as a possible cause. In fact there were insinuations that it could have been caused by wild birds. Livestock farmers are the spoilt brats of Britain.
By the way, once again, great job Reapers!!

Really...is that not convincing enough to stop eating meat or does someone have to get very sick to get the message?

This is not the first time bird flu has hit the UK, it happened i think last year. The news showed men in white clothing putting live birds into plastic bags and burning them alive. I remember sitting at home knowing that thousands of birds were going to their deaths all because of people, because of the dreadful conditions the birds were kept in. If that does not get to you and effect you, what will?

I am continously in awe with PeTA UK! -their very deep convictions and fortitude! -people who are NOT afraid to tell the TRUTH, and ACT on it! They courageously defy all the propaganda that leads most of society to believe otherwise, despite it being detrimental or fatal to them.
Thank you, PeTA UK!

No MeL, you have to be very stupid for believing that.

On another note, I recently read this:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20071030/od_afp/usanimalsgastronomyoffbeat_071030183620
It's about state of NJ okaying people to eat squirrels!
It doesn't matter, people of NJ already have so much toxins in them! Sorry if I hurt someone's feelings!

Once again,
More people will die in Britain from diseases they contracted from their house cat than all of the mentioned diseases put together.

I dnt see any problem with eating a squirrel IF thats all u can find if you r trying to survive in the wilderness.

Christopher,
All the more reason to keep your cats inside.

Mike,
I completely agree, as domestic cats are, as I have said before, a blight on the natural environment as they devastate native birds, reptiles, and mammals.
