Rather Be Dead

These brave PETA members took a completely new tack with the “Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” rallying cry yesterday, demonstrating for passersby that they would rather be naked, dead, and in downtown Reno than wear fur. I think it’s fair to say that there are simply no circumstances under which these young ladies would consider wearing fur. Which is the way it should be. Check out the pic below, and some coverage in The Reno Gazette here.

Great new approach, but explain why! Show the video playing in the background or wherever. The one that has been on the Peta sites for along time showing the animals being skinned alive and fox, racoons ect spacing in their tiny, filthy wire cages, just keep playing it over and over again at all these rally's. Eventually people will have to get the message! Just a thought, but good work... keep it up!

It is amazing! They are showing the reality! I hate all the cruelty to animals!

I really, really, really, admire these ladies' convictions!
And I am very proud of them being REAL animal rights' activists!
Thank you, ladies!

carla--
typically they have other people leaflet-ing as well. i would guess this is not the full display, or people would be hassling the girls. i am sure there are other people with information that are just not in this photo.

Beautiful and amazing ladies
with beautiful souls.....

A lot of people think that Peta is losing some credibility and respect by portraying too many naked people. I think that when it comes to make a point about animal skin it kind of makes sense but for nothing else.

I think that was a great idea and i think if we keep doing stuff like this people are really going to get sick of seeing it and maybe they will slowly start to give in just so they are not bothred with this anymore you know what i mean

There is an undercurrent of misogyny here.

There are normally people at these types of demos handing out leaflets to passersby but that's only a tiny aside to getting naked women in the news. They aren't really showing the reality of where fur comes from and videos are never normally shown at demos like this for some reason. And it's hardly a completely new tack as these demos have been going on for years. Using people's skins for the fur campaign does make a bit more sense than other PETA campaigns but it's still over used, distracts from the real issue and continues to perpetuate sexist attitudes.

Sexist campaigns to fight speciesism? Sounds a bit contradictory...

This is the best you people can do? Your organization, with it's misinformation, scare tactics, and downright moments that make me scratch my head, is far from convincing even people of moderate points of view from understanding, or even wanting to understand, your message.
On that note, as I put on my nice leather boots, I bid you all good day.

What a weird message. No one is forcing you to wear it! So why portray this in that way? Anotheq Dee De Dee moment if you ask me.

"Sexist campaigns to fight speciesism? Sounds a a bit contradictory..."
Well gosh darn it! The furless male minks didn't show up as planned for this campaign, so the campaigners had to improvise. LOL

Brianna, so you've given in and become a jehovah's witness, or is it they that don't bother anymore?

I can't say I agree with these tactics, though it is very ice to see PETA choosing beautiful vegan women who look healthy and average, not the disproportionatly large chested size 2 women who are so frequently used for these campaigns. Recruit a more diverse group and you might be more relatable. Nice efforts.

I can arrange that........

The lack of compassion displayed on this blog by the animal haters/killers/abusers is only matched by their low-level rationale and vacuous comments.
Posted by: Ana | October 22, 2007 03:53 PM
so ana, what profound comments have you made lately? Can you do anything other than critisise?
Posted by: rojo | October 22, 2007 06:17 PM
Ana,
I totally agree with you. And since they complain about our comments, how STUPID are they to continue reading on an ANIMAL RIGHTS' blog site. So they're also attention-seeking losers, who have nothing better to do in life than to "critisise." LOL
Posted by: Ariel | October 22, 2007 08:00 PM
Ana and the other "regulars" on the PETA files frequently have very succinct, interesting comments to share, for the benefit of those who are relatively new here and who are truly interested in learning more about animal rights.
Ana certainly does not have to justify her contributions to this site, just because certain people with reading comprehension problems and no desire to actually learn anything new have nothing but an "I know you are but what am I?" type of comment to make.
Clearly PETA and its supporters are having an impact on the real critics, given that these anti's have no real response to what they are reading/seeing.

Yeah, NOBODY here is pro animal abuse, an animal hater, or a killer.(Though Karma is)

What another fabulous display to the creative ideas PETA demonstrators. I love it, and thanks for making a strong statement!!!

A strange approach, but great idea.

Ariel and Michele
I always enjoy reading your intelligent and well thought out comments. Anyone who reads your comments is bound to become more aware of what animal activism really is. The animals need people like both of you.
Apparently rojo recognized his own description, hence his response. He needs to polish up on his spelling before making anymore vacuous and nonsensical remarks. I notice another also made a snide remark; glad to see my description paints such an accurate picture of them.
Thank you for always helping the animals with intelligent arguments and with self-less deeds of compassion for them.

oh hang my head in shame, i can't spell. How about some real comment?
Posted by: rojo | October 23, 2007 06:50 PM
Ok, no problem. Here are abridged versions of VERY recent REAL comments:
RE: the anti's
Since they complain about our comments, how STUPID are they to continue reading on an ANIMAL RIGHTS' blog site. So they're also attention-seeking losers who have nothing better to do in life.
Another INTELLIGENT comment:
Ana and the other "regulars" on the PETA files frequently have succinct, interesting comments to share, for the benefit of those who are relatively new here and and who are truly interested in learning about animal rights.
(and I will add that Michele is also one of those "regulars" who frequently has succinct, interesting comments to share for the benefit...of those who are truly interested in learning about a/r's)
Satisfied, anti?
