Apparently, after receiving a letter this week from PETA Asia Pacific’s Jason Baker, which explained (in gory detail) exactly how fur coats are made, Miss Universe, aka Riyo Mori, has agreed to stop wearing the stuff. We’re still waiting for confirmation from her that she’s gotten the message loud and clear, but this news sounds really promising.
Now, if the woman officially recognized as the hottest chick in the entire universe can do her stuff without draping herself in dead animals, you’d think a cheap fur-hag like Beyonce could figure out that you can have a killer look without actually killing anything. You’d think.
Anyway, just thought I’d share that piece of good news from The Philippines. I’ll let you know once we get confirmation from Miss U that she really has given up fur for good.

Comments
Riyo Mori is a real Miss Universe and apparently also intelligent! But Asian celebrities are in general very animal friendly but not educated! They should be adressed one by one and i would think that most part of them would never again wear fur after they know what's really behind it!

If I remember correctly, the Phillipines has a woman president too; obviously a very progressive culture, represented well by this woman.
ps Off the subject, but I would like to once again congratulate PETA on such a lovely front page to their website.
Very nicely redone, bright, postitive and friendly, sure to attract many newcomers. And the bunny on there is so darned beautiful!!

This is vert good news that miss universe has stopped wearing fur. Hopefully this will be a message to other celebrities that wearing fur is just plain cruel

Actually, about the Beyonce watching videos of animals being skinned alive, it wasn't. You showed her the Pamela Anderson expose... which was made before the live skinnings. Sorry, just a little correction, perhaps the live skinnings would have been, not better but more effective. Glad Ms Universe changed her mind.

I knew there was a reason that i didn't like Beyonce!!! Good for Miss Universe for making the right choice.

LOL, now the same person is nice since she may agree with your point of view.Atleast wait for proof before being hypocrites.

Beyonce is obviously one heartless thing! Not that JLO is any better.
I think it's brilliant that Miss World has pledged her support against the wearing of fur!
Keep up the good work, you are the BEST! Love your work

This is great news, and also since she is Asian you should try to get her to speak out about the hellish tortures to animals in Asian countries, since that is such a problem, including the fur in China, the dolphins and whales in Japan, the dogs and cats boiled alive in Korea, and other regional animal torture issues. We should all write her asking her to make a point of speaking out against those things and showing her the evidence.
And as to Beyonce, Jlo and others like them, obviously much stronger steps need to be taken. I'm sure you can come up with something....

It's great to see someone make that decision, if only others would follow in her foot steps and be good role models for the next generation.

To: any space cadet
Miss Universe would be perceived to be "nice" because she made a PERSONAL CHOICE out of her compassion not to wear fur anymore, upon being informed about it.
"Hypocrites"?
Quote from statement: "We are still waiting for CONFIRMATION from her that she has gotten the message loud and clear..."
So let's have a real LOL on our resident space cadet, who took the time to prove to us AGAIN his/her lack of reading comprehension and desperation. LOL

I am shocked to hear how ignorant Beyonce is! That disgusts me

Ariel;
"Miss Universe would be perceived to be "nice" because she made a PERSONAL CHOICE out of her compassion not to wear fur anymore, "
No, she made a PR decision. One that may get her removed as Furriers are major supporters of the pageant.A person is not "nice" simply because of one aspect of their life. She is no different then she was 2 days ago when you hated her. Seems your support is cheap.
""Hypocrites"?

HHHMMM, waiting means just that but you jumped in before you knew the truth. PETA waited, you didn't.Seems reading comprehension is a problem for you as well.

At least three things can be consistently said about the space cadet:
1. he/she twists and expands a/r's comments out of desperation. (actually he/she insists on being wrong.)
2. insists on making outbursts to supplement his/her lack of reading comprehension.
3. and makes claims about imaginary statements, for example, "PeTA waited, you didn't."
So I would like the space cadet to quote me:
1. where did I give any indication that I hated Miss Universe;
2. and CLEARLY as to where or how I "jumped in" before PeTA.

I just saw Sarah Jessica Parker in a magazine pic sporting a 17,000 Burberry fur coat, gross!
And what about Kimora Lee Simmons, does she use fur in her high fashion when her hubby (Russell Simmons) is a vegetarian? Not sure....

At least Ms. Mori has made a change in her lifestyle by agreeing to stop wearing fur. And it happened almost right away after getting PETA's letter and the subsequent unfavourable fan mail. Who cares whether she is doing it for PR reasons or out of compassion? The end result is that she has spared the lives of many animals. Let's take the example of a drunk driver who stops drinking and driving just because he/she was afraid of getting caught and not because it was the right thing to do. Who cares what the reason is? That person is no longer endangering his/her life nor the lives of innocent victims.
Also, this situation has likely enlightened many of her fans who may also have worn fur before.
People like J "Low" are just disgusting. She has been informed repeatedly of the animals that were tortured just so she would supposedly look beautiful (which of course she is not - as long as she continues to wear fur, she will be ugly to me), and she has been criticized by many, many groups and individuals, yet she just will not stop what she is doing.
Good for Ms. Mori for taking a step forward for the animals' sakes.

Ariel;
"1. where did I give any indication that I hated Miss Universe; "
My mistake. You liked her when she wore fur then.
"2. and CLEARLY as to where or how I "jumped in" before PeTA"
Your reading comprehension continues to falter and fail. My remarks to that effect were to others not you.

Michele
J Low is a loser; she can't act, sing or speak Spanish. Why Hispanics and others idolize her is beyond comprehension. She is a loser with no heart. She and Beyonce` are self-centered fools. But apparently society loves materialistic dumb fools.

That space cadet insists on being wrong. LOL
1. I did not have any PERSONAL opinion on Miss Universe one way or the other before or after she decided not to wear fur - but I "thank" him/her anyway for letting me know that I did, even though it is not accurate anyway.
2. When a post is addressed ONLY to "Ariel," and it includes a comment such as: "HHHMMM, waiting means just that but you jumped in before you knew the truth. PETA waited, you didn't."
So "Ariel" equals "you," which does not specify PeTA or any "others."
Poor attempt by the space cadet, but twisting comments is ALWAYS convienent when someone is stuck in a corner. Anyway, obviously lack of communication skills in writing can be now be added to the space cadet's lack of reading comprehension.
And I hope the space cadet doesn't typically misconstrue this post to be one in my defense. Quite the contrary. It proves how desperate the space cadet is - but that's nothing new.
Posted by: Ariel | October 19, 2007 01:27 PM
So Ariel, you don't support her now or then and have no opinion on the matter what so ever. Why are you here then?
Tell me, since you are sitting on the fence.Hoe do you manage to keep your balance sitting on a fence with your head where you have it?
Posted by: Mars | October 20, 2007 06:45 PM
Granted, this is going to go over the space cadet's head (as everything else has):
I am here because I am an a/r's activist commenting on an ANIMAL RIGHTS' blog site.
Now, perhaps the space cadet, MARS - who is anti-animal rights- would like to explain why he/she is always on an ANIMAL RIGHTS' blog site, talking stupid with concoctions and distortions - and as always, proving his/her lack of reading comprehension.
Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the space cadet to paste the letter on this blog site, (requested of him/her by an a/r's activist) that the space cadet was supposed to send to Miss Universe, per his/her own comment.
And I'm still waiting -per my request- for the space cadet to "quote" me (with time and date), according to the claims he/she said I made.
