Remember the TV show Blossom from way back in the day? Well, the little sister on the show, Courtney Chase, reportedly took part in a pretty amazing animal rescue last week.

Last Monday, when Courtney and her older sister Ashley saw their neighbor allegedly trying to drown his eight month old Shih Tzu in a tub for defecating on the carpet, the sisters intervened. Reportedly, they entered the neighbor’s apartment, grabbed the dog, gave him mouth-to- mouth resuscitation, and rushed him to the vet, where he is recuperating.

Felony cruelty to animals charges have been filed against the neighbor and he faces up to three years in prison. I’ll keep you posted if more info becomes available.

This dog is so lucky to have Courtney and Ashley as neighbors!

This story reminded me of a recent urgent post on PETA's Action Alert page:
URGENT: Help Get Justice for Fatally Tortured Cat in New York. A cat was allegedly tortured to death at a house party in Southold on September 24. Reports indicate that Christopher Tabor-Finne, Tyler Pendergrass and Porschia Poteet beat the cat with a cinderblock and then set the animal on fire.

According to witnesses at the party, the defendants held the cat down and smashed her head more than a dozen times before setting her on fire.

The cat's guardian was reportedly looking for the animal for weeks before being informed of what had happened.

The task of prosecuting the defendants falls to the office of Thomas Spota, the district attorney for Suffolk County. Please respectfully remind him that only a vigorous prosecution of this and any cruelty case—and the pursuit of stringent penalties when convictions in such cases are won—is in the best interests of the county's human and animal residents.

Please call on him to ensure that, if convicted, the suspects receive the maximum penalties, including incarceration; a permanent prohibition on their having ownership, custody, or control of animals (as is allowed by state law); and any necessary psychiatric intervention.

Please send your polite comments to:
The Honorable Thomas Spota
Suffolk County District Attorney
725 Veterans Memorial Hwy.
Bldg. 77, N. County Complex
Hauppauge, NY 11787
631-853-5117 (fax)

Please write/fax to the District Attorney on this case! Or you can visit PETA's Action Alert page and e-mail the District Attorney from there.

THANKS EVERYONE!

V SOTO, that is a horrible story, I'm pregnant now and I am raising my son to be a true animal lover and PETA supporter. If that was my child who tortured a cat, I would ask the judge myself to lock him away. Kudos to you for standing up for this poor cat

carolyn,

Ah yes, corruption. Teach your child BOTH ends of the story before letting him/her choose to be part of PETA or not. Dont make him/her ignorant.
