For anyone who still has doubts about the power of the internet, check out this AP story about 14-year-old Amy Bareijan. Amy wanted to go vegetarian after watching Meet Your Meat on YouTube, so she posted her own video asking for people’s advice and personal experiences that may help her. The response was overwhelming, to say the least. Check out the story here.
The video that started it all:

Way to go Amy.
You do have many, many friends right here at PETA and we would love to share our stories with you.
Remember, you are now living a cruelty free life.
And that feels darn good.
And someday others will follow your choice.

How come no one from PETA has made comments about the Grizzly (an animanl on the protected species list) that was killed in Idaho. You all have made it very clear in the M. Vick case yur feelings towards dogs but no one from PETA has made a single comment about the magistic Grizzly Bear that is a Protected species that was killed and the killers are getting away with it. People from PETA are no better than the politicians in Washington.

OMG I've always been afraid to watch this and just now did...well, got about 9 minutes into it which I am surprised.
I have some stuff in the freezer (Morningstar) to eat but I a not completely veggie. Not by a long shot. I think that might be changing. I already don't eat fowl. I don't see how I can eat beef after watching that...no way.

animals are our friends and should be treated with respect and love-not cruelty and violence.
I watched a bit of the deer butchers video-couldnt handle any more of it.
deer are a favorite of mine-so beautiful and graceful-they deserve to be in the wild-not in loud places getting butchered.
stop the cruelty now!

This is the saddest thing ive ever seen, it made me cry

Hey supunt, that footage has been gathered over years and years so of course there will be some older footage. and by the way, chunks of that is from undercover footage taken in the last 5, 10 years. Don't be ignorant, having standards is one thing. Slaughterhouses actually ADHERING to them is another! I would tend to put my faith in actual video footage then some anonymous person on a blog saying that things aren't like that anymore...

This video turned me into a vegetarian too. I have always loved animals, but I didn't think I could give up eating meat. The video made me decide that I had to try because I cringed at the thought of animals being hurt like that. It's been a few months now and I've decided to stick with it. It's not always easy, but I feel so good about myself for stopping a little bit of pain in the world.

I have researched a lot, and let me tell you if you think todays standards are any better than those of the 70's you are far misinformed in fact conditions are now far worse than they ever have been. Why do you think that there is now more of an increase in E coli, camplylobacter, Salmonella, Listeria...is it because we have changed the practice of the slaughter of animals becoming cleaner? *keep in mind in Europe the litter the chickens are kept in are cleaned out with every flock which may be a matter of weeks...in the US however it is often left in place for 2 years. The litter may be made up of rice hulls, or wood shavings, or some similar material, but what ever it is soon is mixed with chicken manure....
If you think that over the years our government has changed the slaughter methods well you would be right they have become much more lax than ever letting the slaughterhouse have more and more control over all aspects of the business. The slaughterhouse has one main concern slaughter more meat, and make more money. The meat industry owns the USDA they tell them what to do not the other way around! So with the meat industry in control of all aspects if you think that animals are treated more humane or that meat is safer you are one of the many that is manipulated by the meat industry!!! MEAT to the meat industry equals MONEY!!!
The only thing the meat industry has changed since the 70's is now our Poultry is dipped in chlorine, and our burgers are now NUKED! Instead of just flat out fixing the problems like letting animals out to pasture...cleaning out filth so that animals are not covered in it from day one..they look for more ways to make the filth healthy! Over the years the meat industry has messed with nature over and over again by adding chemicals that are not safe to turning cows into cannibals and now mother nature is fighting back with food borne pathogens. The unfortunate part here is it is not the consumers fault that the meat industry has misinformed us, and gave us false securities...over loaded us with commercial on how meat and dairy are the main staple of our diets, it is not the consumers fault that we have been told from birth that Milk does a body good, or that there are no other proteins that are good for us other than meat. Now all of that is changing more of us are aware of the meat industries tactics, and more of us are now aware that everything that we have been taught about meat is dead wrong. You can now find grocery stores that cater to Vegetarians it is easier than ever to become a vegetarian...

Hmmm, that's pretty gross and "inhumane". Maybe humans should just tear at animals like I do. I chomp away while my dinner is painful torn apart limb by limb while still breathing. Yeah, that's the natural way to eat animals.
My favorite thing to eat is PETA people; their flesh is so yummy thanks to their vegan diets.
I love meat, but people who uneccessarily abuse animals are sad. On the bright side: I heard they're inventing a meat tree, that bears grapefruit sized meat sacks. Mmmmm, meatfruit!

Good for you Amy!!!
For me, I found that going Veg was easy, as far as food was concerned. I simply don't crave meat.
What I found to be hard was the support from family, friends, coworkers. To be honest, people were simply rude to me. With time, I became more educated on the subject of vegetarianism, and thus gained confidence.
What I found is that if I could not appeal to someone based on animal cruelty, I could in other areas: your health, the enviroment, worker, worker rights.
I find that world hunger always strikes home with people. No one will tell you that you are stupid or selfish because you care about the 6 million children under the age of 5 that will die this year as a result of hunger. If people stopped eating animals, world hunger wouldn't be the issue that it is.
Amy you are doing great. Hold strong. People may ridicule you because they are afraid of doing what you are doing. They are afraid of facing what you are facing. They won't tell you that, but that is it.

I just want to say thanks for opening my eyes. I have been a vegan for four wonderful years now. Keep the faith and keep telling the truth. I tell everyone I can about the wonderful work you guys do for animals and how the "food industry" and accomplices really work.

I think this is horrible and sadistic...i am from Buenos Aires, Argentina...a country that consumes lots of meat famous for it's quality...i'm not vegetarian but not much of a meat eater though...i eat meat trying not to think about it cause is sad...i'm surprised about this slaughterhouses...they don't have a clue about how to sacrify an animal correctly...they kill this animal and they kind of enjoy it!!! Here i my country and many other countries slaughterhouses work tryin not to make the animnal suffer!!! they and us use mechanical procedures quick and painless...am not saing is ok to kill them BUT AT LEAST THEY DO IT RIGHT!!! no cruelty involved...also we lrft our cows free in extensive frams where they it fresh grass and live with no stress or fear...i want to say something else...MILK COWS OR WHEREVER YOU CALL THEM...THEY ARE NOT SLAUGHTERED! THEY JUST GAVE MILK THEIR ENTIRE LIFE! COWS WHO DON'T GIVE MILK, THOUSE ARE SLAUGHTERED! TWO COMPLITELY DIFFRENT THINGS...YOUR MEAT IS SO BAD BECAUSE YOU MAKE THE ANIMAL TO SUFFER, PERIOD...maybe that good because it easy for you to avoid meat...anyway if prefer vegetables

Hi Amy,
It is so great that you're looking into going vegetarian! PETA is a great resource w/lots of info., tips, recipes and so forth to get you well on your way.
PETA was a great source of support when I became vegetarian at 16 (in fact, it's from a PETA leaflet I found inside a Betty White book at the local bookstore that opened my eyes about the atrocities that are perpetrated on animals - including the animals that humans eat).
At the time, my mom was adamantly opposed to my going vegetarian. And I do not use the word "adamantly" lightly here. The enormous amount of pressure that was coming at me was enough to make anyone just throw up their arms and say, Okay, Forget it! I'll start eating meat again! But nope, I didn't give in. It took her awhile to come around to the idea, but eventually it happened.
Fast forward 19 years later: she cooks and eats only vegetarian when I come over for dinner. YEAH!
So Amy, you may come across individuals that are opposed to your ideals but just know that there are sooooo many others out here rooting for you and supporting you!
I wish you all the luck in the world!

watching that sealed the deal for me too. Shortly after, my cat died in my arms..and I realised I just didn't have it in me to eat animals. So I don't. And I won't.
