In 1998, Pavarotti lent his name and his considerable influence to PETA’s campaign to raise animal welfare standards in Taiwan—where scores of homeless dogs were rounded up by garbage collectors to be poisoned, electrocuted, drowned or slowly starved. The cruelty touched Pavarotti deeply, and, with his help, the campaign resulted in the first ever animal welfare law in that country, which has since passed progressive legislation banning circuses and prohibiting the export of exotic animals as pets. Pavarotti also raised his voice for animals who are electrocuted, gassed, and drowned in the fur industry, having signed another PETA petition against fur following one of his performances at LaScala.
Pavarotti's great voice will be missed around the world, and at PETA, he will be particularly missed as a powerful voice for animals.

i'm deeply shocked and saddened about this news! i'm a big fan of great luciano for all he did during his lifetime! he was a real giant in art and culture and his whole person was spreading so much love and sunshine! like enrico caruso he was a huge animal friend and protector and he has risen his voice for the animals in the same way as for to sing the unforgettable operas in this world! we shall miss you so much - divine luciano - may heaven embrace you! and in our love you shall remain as on the first day!

The passing away of great soul Luciano Pavarotti is a terrible loss for everybody of us! There are now four great souls and angels for animals who left us: Gretchen Wyler, Anna Nicole Smith, Hans Ruesch and Luciano Pavarotti! When God calls them all together this means that we shall get even more help by them directly from their spiritual abode! In this way they can act with real strong power - we are confident!!!

I can remember when Pavarotti came to perform in Oklahoma City when I was a teenager. He was given two gifts, a horse and a mink cowboy hat. My mother was in his personal presence when the gifts were presented. She was already embarressed about both gifts. He hated getting the horse because he knew that he had no personal time or space for the animal. He was disgusted by the hat which he called "a vulger display of unnecessary wealth and cruelty." At that point in time I was impressed with more than his magnificent voice. He was much to young to die. He had so much left to give. RIP Mr. Pavrotti.
