No_Fur.jpgTurns out that my "eXtreme" colleagues over at peta2 do more than just talking about their favorite skate spots and "moshing," or whatever it is that the kids are up to these days. Just two months after they put out a call for members and Street Teamers to contact Burton Snowboards about their use of fur, the company has committed to going fur-free for good!

This move means that all major action sports retailers are currently fur-free, and we're currently turning our attention to Guess? Inc. The company has announced that it will stop selling fur eventually, but evidently has plans to continue ordering fur until September of 2007, and selling as much as it can until April 2008. If compassionate companies like Burton can make the commitment to a total and immediate ban on fur, Guess can too. Please click here to ask the company to go fur free immediately.

Thanks to everyone who contacted the company about this issue, and thank you, Burton, for making the compassionate decision to go fur-free.

Thank goodness that many companies are starting to take animal welfare seriously.
A great BIG thank you,

Such good news are always welcome! It's a great decision that Burton stops doing business with fur! This ruthless and bloody thing must stop worldwide! Thank you - Burton and all who helped - for this present! And also Guess must stop this at once! A clean conscience is more important than dirty money!

Just sent my email to Guess?

I think it's milleniums past due that society comes out of the stone age with the cave-man/woman mentality of wearing fur.
I think wearing fur has been a hype, making people believe that they are making a fashion statement. Hardly! They are making a statement that they are vain and unconscienable about the torturous suffering of innocent beings, who scream helplessly with pain.
I cringe and want to vomit when I see someone wearing a fur coat.
Many thanks and congratulations to the Street Teamers!

Finding out the Burton no longer has fur in their products makes me very very happy. I've been using Burton boards, coats, hats, bindings since I started snowboarding in grade 3. Burton is now so much better!!

I am so happy that many companies are stepping up and ending this cruelty. I just wrote a thank you to Burton and purchased 400.00 in gear for my son. I let them know that it was because they stopped selling fur.

Posted by: Lisa | August 1, 2007 09:11 PM

Good point, Jason--they sell down, too.

I love Burton gear, but their boots are leather. Any suggestions for a high performance snowboard boot that is leather free? I've been riding for nearly 10 years and recently became Vegan. Time to retire the leather boots, and find a humane replacement.

Yay! Good going. Another step for animalkind.

Thank you Mr. Burton and the rest of the Snowboarding team. I have been a avid skier all my life and look forward to the slopes soon, enjoying the majestic sceneries and not seeing FUR!

Thank you Burton, you wont regret your kind action!!!!

Posted by: silvia | August 2, 2007 09:08 PM

Now Please stop the Leather!

I wrote my letter to Guess and hope they wake up with all the letters pouring in.I can't believe that anyone can watch the videos of these poor helpless animals having their fur peeled off while they are still alive screaming with pain and not care.I am ashamed of being part of the human race.I don't understand the need for fur in present times-it's strikes me as arrogant to wear an animal's skin and prance around without feeling the pain this poor animal had to endure. The people who wear fur are ignorant, the people who skin the animals are barbarians & I don't uderstand how sick they must be to be able to watch these poor animals suffer. They belong locked up & not allowed into our society. I can't wait until these barbarians get what's coming to them!!

Posted by: joshua | August 7, 2007 07:32 AM

ABOUT TIME!
I AM GLAD THEY FINALLY DECIDED TO DO THE RIGHT THING BUT IT WAS LONG OVERDUE
PEOPLE WHO ACT ETHICALLY AND COMPASSIONATELY SHOULD NOT EXPECT A MEDALL OF HONOR
THE REWARD IS IN DOING THE RIGHT THING!
