Roger_Goodell.jpg

Since taking over the job, Commissioner Roger Goodell has talked a big game about cracking down on character issues in the NFL—and until now, he's backed up his commitment, doling out tough penalties to Bengals receiver Chris Henry for DUIs and Bears tackle Tank Johnson for charges related to illegal firearms possession, and suspending Titans cornerback Pacman Jones for a full year following his troubles with the police. But now, in the face of national outrage over Vick’s indictment on dogfighting charges, Goodell has announced that Vick will be allowed to play when the season starts in September. Why, Roger, are you folding now when one of the NFL's biggest stars (who's certainly been no stranger to the courtroom since he was drafted by the Falcons) has been indicted for a crime that is nothing short of torture? What kind of a message does this send to the communities that are working so hard to stamp out this crime, or to the young fans of Michael Vick who are waiting to find out whether dogfighting is something that will get you into trouble? Goodell's weak response to these deadly serious allegations is tantamount to admitting that the National Football League doesn't consider ties to dogfighting rings a character issue at all.

Starting tomorrow, we will be holding demonstrations calling for Vick's suspension from the league, so I'll keep you posted with details, and if you want to let Goodell know that he's made the wrong decision, you can contact him about the issue here.

There is some good news, though. I know a lot of people have been contacting Vick's sponsors asking that they sever their ties with him, and it looks like some companies have been listening: Nike just announced that they will be suspending the release of the Air Zoom Vick V this summer. You can read about that here. You can be certain that we'll keep the pressure on Vick's other sponsors and the NFL to do the right thing here, and I'll let you know as soon as there are more developments in the story.

This is great news about Nike suspending the release of the new Mike Vick shoe - clearly the outcry from the public is being heard by at least some people.

Keep pressuring the NFL now, and they will no doubt have to back down about letting Vick play in the new season.

Just to let you know the scope of the concern about this issue - the news stories about Vick have even been in newspapers and on radio and tv up here in good old Canada. I wrote to Nike Canada, and have been emailing my friends about the issue, telling them to sign the petitions and to contact the relevant individuals/companies. I know we are not as big of a market as in the US, but I'm sure that even our support will have an impact.

Do you have a list of Vick's sponcers? I would love to write my own letters.

Posted by: cara | July 19, 2007 04:56 PM

It just goes to show that the NFL has no backbone or conscience. It's all about greed and not about doing the right thing.

Do these people realise how America reacts to animal cruelty. This is SCANDALOUS and will BITE them where it hurts This IS NOT GOING AWAY.

We (PETA) needs it's celebrity members to stand up in front of the cameras and demand Vick to be suspended and then banned from playing in the NFL EVER AGAIN.

Again if many celebrities are willing to protest, it would help a lot.

Networks, TV affiliates should give the NFL notice they will not air any games in which Vick might play.

I know it's going to be tough for celebrities, major sponsors, companies, and networks to take this stand from a financial view point...but what if we don't?

Right now I feel the owners of the teams are saying to all of us... " it's ok to have criminals/murders play in our teams - as long as it makes us money.

If you don't stand up NOW and fight against something as disgusting as what he did, you are a hypocrite, because you want to protect your green dollar bills...

I love football, but I draw the line if we allow a small group of owners to make money of the backs of dead and injured dogs.

Let's hope our court system works... sigh!

Posted by: John | July 19, 2007 05:38 PM

Yes, I agree with John. Peta celebrities need to come forth and disagree with Vick's dogfighting.

I can't believed he will be allowed to play!

Shame on you NFL!

Posted by: Jaclyn | July 19, 2007 05:45 PM

*sigh* I guess I won't be supporting my saints this year?

In addition, I would urge everyone to write to their favorite NFL players, plead with them to speak out against Vick's and other's involvment in dog fighting. Come on, there has to be SOME players that are vegetarians or support PETA! See if one would be willing to do an anti-dog fight PSA!

Posted by: BullyDawg | July 19, 2007 05:51 PM

I can't not believe the NFL is allowing him to play. This is appalling.

Posted by: Shirley | July 19, 2007 05:52 PM

Are you serious? That's pretty heinous. But have heart.

From what I understand, where he's being tried, animal cruelty is a felony and he could get up to 6 years in prison. That would put a damper on his career, don't you think?

I hope I'm right about that.

Posted by: Maya | July 19, 2007 06:04 PM

Look. Everything he is being accused of is horrid. Dog fighting is one of the sickest things I have ever heard of or seen. And if indeed Vick is guilty he should be kicked out of the NFL. However, Vick has not been proven guilty, yet. So lets not tie the noose and hang him from a tree which I know most of you would love. Unless one of you have witnessed or have video coverage of him fighting dogs, you cant say 100% for sure he was involved. Those witnesses are cooperating with the gov't so they will stay out of trouble. Their credibility is shot. So get the rope ready, but let the man go to trial before you tighten it around his neck.

Posted by: Danny | July 19, 2007 06:06 PM

If the NFL has any integrity whatsoever they will release Mr. Vick from their organization.

I hope the courts inflict the exact type of punishment on Mr. Vick as he clearly perpetrated on those poor helpless, defenseless animals.

Shawn Ferguson's comment above indicate the base mentality that this sort of neandrathal "sport" attracts.

There is nothing "sporting" about caging, starving, taunting, beating, and sacrificing animals for human "pleasure".

Unbelievable that these people exist in 2007 ... simply unbelievable.

Posted by: pat | July 19, 2007 06:10 PM

This posting is for Dana...you can not spell. It is obvious you are behind people who fight dogs..you are ignorant.

Posted by: Darcy | July 19, 2007 06:26 PM

Can you list all of Vick's sponsors?

Posted by: Craig | July 19, 2007 06:37 PM

Vick should be suspended immediately!

The NFL has very strict rules on gambling and associating with gamblers. All players are aware of this policy and see it posted in every locker room. On this alone Vick should be suspended.

In the 1960s both Paul Hornung and Alex Karras were suspended for a year for gambling on their own teams. Neither was involved in any form animal cruelty. The NFL has a precedent and it should be followed.

Posted by: Charlie | July 19, 2007 06:38 PM

I think you guys are jumping the gun. Give the NFL a chance to see this play out in court. At least let them see the evidence presented by the prosecution before they make a decision. The season doesn't start for two more months... what's the rush?

Look what happened at Duke when everyone jumped the gun and cancelled the whole lacrosse season and the players turned out to be innocent.

Having said that, and not having seen the evidence, my gut feeling is that Vick will be found guilty, and he won't play in the NFL ever again. But protesting the NFL before Vick even gets in a court room is a little extreme. It's these type of extreme knee jerk actions that make people hate PETA. If you guys were more level headed, you would probably get more support and political power. Think strategy and logic, not emotion and anger. It will serve you better.

I think it is good that attention is being put on the dog fighting issue, but I am puzzled why all of the attention is all of a sudden on Vick, like this is a big surprise. How many rappers, brag about fighting dogs in their records. Most of DMX's albums are about his dog fighting hobby. It's a huge subculture, and a big deal among rappers and athletes to get "street credibility." Focusing on Vick as an apparition takes away from the bigger picture of a subculture where this is widely accepted.

It's so widely known that DMX is a big dog fighting guy, yet he is in movies all of the time, and selling millions of records. Where were the Peta Protests for him? Roy Jones Jr. is also a big Dog Fight player.

This is a complete joke on the NFL! I can't believe that he has no backbone. He has no problem suspending someone for smoking some weed but when it comes to dogs killing dogs for the "fun" of it I guess that's ok. I was so happy to hear about Nike stepping up and doing atleast something about it. It was a small victory but it got overshadowed by the NFL. I wrote his sponsers and I will continue to write them AND MR. No Backbone.

I think it is time that all athletes are held accountable for their actions! It is ridiculous that they get away with all the stuff that they do- this is the time to change things. I will not support any company that supports Vick-

Posted by: Melissa | July 19, 2007 07:51 PM

This is so typical of sports and the NFL. Most companies would suspend their employee pending a full investigation. Vick thinks it is funny. I think that an all out boycott on football is called for until they make the right decision. A full suspension without pay, pending the outcome of the trial, then banned from the NFL for life once he is found guilty. You cannot tell me he did not know it is going on in his own house. How do you hide 65 dogs. Give me a break.

Posted by: Sue | July 19, 2007 08:02 PM

Paul

I agree with you in the fact that yes, there are many others involved with dogfighting but up until now only Vick, with a big name, has been indicted. I don't support any of those thugs: don't buy their music, t-shirts, watch their movies. They all should be sent a message---their violence never should be condoned.

Finally, this violence is getting air space so that maybe others will get involved in stopping it. The dogs need our help specifically but all animals in general do as well. The prevalence of animal cruelty is an indictment against our society so saturated with violence.

PETA can't be everywhere but people everywhere can do protests on their own against these people and these types of activities. Do NOT buy anything they produce helps also. Plus, many of them and their supporters will use the race card to discredit animal advocates . It is not about race it is about hurting and abusing animals.

Posted by: Ana | July 19, 2007 08:06 PM

I am disgusted by Michael Vick and his "perverted jollies" he receives from watching innocent animals suffer!!! I can only hope he can't buy his way out of this as did Troy Gentry!

This guy is definetly guilty. By association or just being the ring leader theres no doubt what he has caused. At least nike took his shoe off the market and with everyone stressing to boycott, he will not have a football career. P.S. thank you falcons for giving us L.T. and taking that filthy punk of a nfl player instead!

Roger Goodell is a WEAKLING

WEAK WEAK WEAK WEAK WEAK WEAK and spineless

The NFL is basically organized crime these days

Posted by: kelly | July 19, 2007 08:56 PM

Miguel is wrong. Very wrong. Lets see if the NFL is so cool when 200 animal rights demonstrators show up at the gates with 2x3 foot signs with pictures showing shredded dogs and discarded bait dogs. Try explaining that to your children Miguel.
Wait for the boos when Vick takes the field.. The leadership of the NFL dont have a clue of what is to come over the next 24 months... but they will. Who would want to align or sponsor the NFL when the very name NFL is associated with bloody savage violent vicious pit bull fights.

Posted by: coolfusion | July 19, 2007 09:17 PM

First, Goodell's previous suspensions came months after the actions and charges against Pacman, Henry and Tank. Just like the Duke lacrosse team was too quick to be judged before the facts came out, and just like the members of PETA do not want people jumping at judgement against them for the claims that their company supports terrorist organizations. Just as I don't believe the time was right when the allegations were made to call Peta a group that supports terrorism, and the destruction of life, even though what Vick likely did is utterly atrocious, I will afford him the same right.

Posted by: CJ | July 19, 2007 09:50 PM

This organization needs to let the legal system run its course until they make a judgement against Vick. Remembe what happened to the Duke Lacrosse team. Groups made a huge issue about those guys on the team only to learn they were innocent. Remember your innocent until found guilty. I love animals and never want to see any animal hurt but I also want to make sure that he gets his day in court before we make a firm judgement on him. Picketing the NFL, Falcons or Vick is uncalled for at this time.

Posted by: Josh | July 19, 2007 09:50 PM

It's all about the money. The NFL could care less as long as they get their pockets stuffed with cash. The NFL might let him play, but the Falcons would probably not be so weak. Most of the fans are dog owners who treat their pets like children. Not cutting ties with Vick will be the Falcons worst financial mistake.

Posted by: Steve | July 19, 2007 09:57 PM

As a member of PETA Canada, I am so disgusted that I hope that the Feds will toss his sorry ass in jail, where he can have his own rape stand! Moreover he should be black balled from the NFL, and the CFL [in case that he tries to come up here]FOR LIFE. Personally, I'd like to toss him in his ring with his dogs for a few hours, but unfortunately, I'm above that!
As for football - Atlanta who?

Posted by: Lisa Niven | July 19, 2007 10:08 PM

Michael Vick may be a great football player. He is also a thug, a horrible representative of the sport, a terrible role model for those who admir him, particularly the young. He must go if not to jail, out of football.

they guy still has not been charged with anything. you guys want him banished on the count of an assumption. He has only been indicted. The NFL will let the legal process do its work and if found guilty will suspend him. What if he is found not guilty, the suspension is worthless, and more of a problem for the NFL. That is the last thing they would want. Stop letting your emotions handle you. If guilty then he will be punished, but you have to wait for the due process to play out.

Posted by: vick07 | July 19, 2007 10:55 PM

Let me start by saying that I believe Michael Vick is guilty. Now, I THOUGHT, correct me if I'm wrong, but I THOUGHT, you were innocent until proven guilty in this country?! Secondly, Michael Vick is Michael Vick...NOT the NFL. Go to Michael Vick's house and protest, not the offices of the NFL...

Posted by: Brook | July 19, 2007 11:33 PM

Do any of you people personally know if this man is guilty? Let him have his day in court before taking on the NFL.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 19, 2007 11:36 PM

Goodell really needs to follow through on what he started. Whether Vick is guilty or not, right now, he needs to be suspended until it's proven either way. If he's innocent, fine, life as usual. If guilty, I feel he should pay a fine that goes directly to the care of all the dogs they found on his property and then some, be suspended from playing football forever and he should have to serve community service by taking care of Pitbulls (Supervised at all times of course).
Pitbulls are not born fighting. They are made to fight by the stupid unfeeling people who get their thrills from it. Makes me wonder how they are with people. Probably the same. UNFEELING. I have two pitbulls and I am very proud of them. One of them is more protective but he has never gotten out of my control. I trust my dogs judgement on people. If my dog after seeing someone a few times continues to growl, I don't want the person near me. Any dog, no matter what breed will fight when taught.

Posted by: Molly | July 20, 2007 12:45 AM

I don't think its fair to accuse Vick of dogfighting just yet, to be fair he has only been indicted and nothing else. It's not fair too put everyone in the NFL under pressure. What if Vick was innocent and the NFL had already suspended him. I'm not protecting the man I feel that he should be given the chance to prove his innocence.

Posted by: john scanlon | July 20, 2007 02:24 AM

Did everyone seem to forget the right to due process? The NFL cannot do anything before this has the opportunity to go to a courtroom. Don't get me wrong, I think he should get plenty of prison time and a lifetime ban from the league if the evidence shows this, but to do anything ahead of the court proceedings would be grossly out of line.

Would Peta please list all of Michael Vick's sponsors? I found at least 3 at the bottom of Michael Vick's website. The companies logos were: Coca-Cola, Rawlings, Air Tran and Powerade. The only thing is, Powerade is a Coca-Cola product. I am going to write all of these companies and ask that they drop their affiliation with Micheal Vick. I hope everyone else does the same thing.

Posted by: Kurt | July 20, 2007 03:33 AM

I totally agree that the allegations brought on to Vick and his associates regarding the treatment of dogs is way wrong! I am not an animal lover but I can tell you that what they did is completely unacceptable.

That being said, I think everyone is jumping the gun. To demand Vick not to play and to quit his team is also unacceptable. There is still the matter of due process. I understand how angry some people might be but that is still no reason to make this request and to boycott before anyone has been found guilty in the court of law. It would be acceptable for Vick to give the courtesy to his team and the NFL by taking a break to resolved this indictment. But it should come of his own free will and not on demand from PETA or any other orginazation or individuals. To critisize Roger Goodell for not taking any action is also dumb. This BLOG points out the suspensions of other players for their actions but you fail to realize that these players have been arrested and or convicted of a criminal activity. Vick has no prior record with any kind of criminal activity. Hopefully, you will keep an open mind about how our laws work and also not condemn me for my opinion of this situation. Personally, I believe he is guilty but that does not give me the right to demand he be banned from the NFL. Below is a good example why Roger has not taken the action so many people want to unfairly demand. Thanks.

"The problem Goodell faces in suspending Vick the way he suspended Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson or Chris Henry under the personal conduct policy is that Vick has never been arrested or convicted of a crime. While attorneys for both the league and the NFL Players Association said Goodell could suspend Vick, such a move could expose the league and the policy to legal challenge, particularly if Vick is eventually found not guilty. That is something Goodell would like to avoid."

As a proud parent of two beautiful dogs I am appalled by the news of this dog fighting syndicate. HOWEVER, I am also a big supporter of the American judicial system. Michael Vick deserves his day in court. He is INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. If proven guilty, then we can all throw stones. If he is not proven guilty, I wonder how many of you would apolegize. Picket the offices of the NFL? Suspend him? I also wonder why all of you think he does not deserve the right to work just because he has been ACCUSED of something. Like I said, this was a deplorable act, and whomever, including Mr. Vick, is responsible should be held accountable. Until he or someone is proven guilty, though, I am not going to be the one who acts completely innocent and perfect and casts stones at the man.

Miguel,

I agree with you that we should not judge the NFL before Vick's trial. I completely agree that we can't judge the whole organization by one guy's actions.

But donating to the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld does not make them animal friendly. SeaWorld is known to mistreat animals and Jack Hannah, the retired director of the SD zoo is an abomination and knows nothing about animals.

Plus which neither organization is nonprofit. Both make a fortune off the public visiting caged animals. If the NFL wants to clean up their image tell them to donate to the NRDC or an animal shelter or a pit bull rescue group.

For an already violent sport you've got to wonder what Goodell is thinking by not suspending Vick. What? Is he going to have him attend "sensitivity training?"
To quote George Carling when he commented on a situation in which several NY police officers shoved a floor lamp up some guys ass and ripped out his intestines, the police announced their were going to have the officers attend sensitivity training. As Carlin puts it, "if you need to be told not to shove a large cumbersome object up someone else ass, maybe you're too fucked up to be on the police force to begin with." So tell me - what's the difference bewteen that and the crulety that Vick has inflicetd on those dogs? None! And I'm not someone who's against football. I know it's a violent sport. I stopped watching football because the players were more interested in signing the endorsement checks than playing the game. If baseball can ban the 1919 White Sox forever and Pete Rose for gambling against his own team (what a joke) - then Goodell can ban Vick from football - forever! Bunch of pussies! It's like the old saying goes - money talks- bullshit walks.

I say let Vick play, it is less time that he can help prepare his defense and makes it more likely that he will get convicted.

Although what Vick is doing may be be particarly disgusting, this kind of abuse to some degree, takes place at almost every dog breeeding operation; maybe this case can inpsire people to crack down on all the puppy mills throughout the country.

Izzy, just use a white t-shirt, buy a set of stencils and a magic marker for your message (outline the stencil letters with a pencil first to make sure of even-ness), and there you have it!...your anti-Vick t-shirt!
Or you can go to a business that does printing on t-shirts if there is one in your area.
I'm thinking, too, that maybe you could print out the PeTA picture of Vick's abused dogs, and maybe the printer can enlarge that to have it on the t-shirt...and maybe the printer can even make a poster.

I guess the rules for common decency are different for college football and pro football.

Two Oklahoma Sooners players were suspended because they were paid for work they didn't didn't do at a car dealership, and the college was stripped of its '05 wins and ordered to give up two scholarships for '08 and '09.

The NFL, on the other hand, has a player who's a sadistic, evil monster who likes to torture dogs to death, and they're letting him play ball.

That ain't right.

Posted by: lee | July 20, 2007 11:00 AM

As the owner of a wonderful, loving pit, I'm obviously furious and full of hate at the ugliness and inhumanity of the allegations. And in that Federal cases have a 95% conviction rate, I expect the feds have a strong case and assume that he will be convicted. Which helps.

However, for those commenting above that the NFL should wait, that due process needs to run its course, that prosecuting a wealthy black man in the court of public opinion is a dangerous tactic for an already controversial organization (PETA) - I get your arguments.

But it is indisputable and undeniable that he owned the house where 50 dead pit bulls where uncovered, that he sponsored (ie paid to establish) pit breeding operations which were subsequently advertised in pit fighting magazines. For this ALONE, coupled with Vick's existing run-ins with the law, the NFL should suspend him for at least part of the season. Even without a conviction, there's more than enough incontrovertible evidence to suspend him for at least part of the season. No doubt he'll receive a lifetime ban if convicted, but until then, it's cowardly of the NFL not to do at least SOMETHING, in light of the very known, very public facts.

Well, COMMISIONER GOODELL, you talked a good game to try to impress everyone with your initial clean-up act. And your actual accomplishments in the past were indeed very impressive for which you should be commended.
However, since you don't mind Vick's bizarre behavior for which he was indicted, and since you have decided to retain him on the team (pending further investigation), then you shouldn't mind that the public will "talk" with our wallets meanwhile.

As we all know, money is the ONLY thing that talks, either way: for financial gain or loss. Therefore, you shouldn't mind it when Vick's sponsors are withdrawing and/or being boycotted due to YOUR care-less decision.

Try to tell us that he had no idea about the atrocities going on his own backyard! NO ONE in their right state of mind would condone that. Vick's did, and now you are!

I just donated $50 to PETA to show my support.

Michael Vick is a disgusting, worthless, waste of space. I have always loved football and the NFL, and I have to say if this pile of garbage is allowed to play I will not be watching. I know you are innocent until proven guilty, unfortunately in this country if you have alot of cash, you have a pretty good chance of being found "innocent". I have a bad feeling that this may be the case with "Sick Vick".
We need to create better laws in this country, we need to start treating animals with respect. I know that the lawmakers might not make alot of money from this, and therefore they really have no interest, but its time to make a change. Cruelty to animals needs to hold the same sentance as cruelty to humans. Why is this ok?? You can beat, and torture a defenseless animal and get community service, but if you smoke a little weed they lock you up for years, wasting jail space.
We have things really backwards in this country, and my only hope is that stories like this becoming public will open peoples eyes to the kind of torture animals are being put through. I don't know what it is going to take to make a change, but I can guarantee if these were kids being tortured this would be a differant story, and I am sorry but I don't see why this is any differant??????

Posted by: Heidi | July 20, 2007 12:03 PM

To Shawn Ferguson:

You're a fricking idiot. That is obvious by the lack of spelling in your "ignorant" comment and by your lack of compassion concerning these animals. To even condone something like this, you must not have a soul. People like you and Vick need to be put away because you're nothing put a nuisance to society!!

Posted by: Yvonne Clark | July 20, 2007 12:06 PM

This can't go away..Picketing should continue at all NFL games and all Home Depots which Arthur Blank owns.....This thug must go away....

Posted by: jeff | July 20, 2007 12:10 PM

You people disgust me! Since when is a person guilty before being tried for the crime he is ACCUSED of? And where do you get off boycotting the NFL? What the hell do they have to do with what Vick may or may not have done on his personal property. It's not the NFL's job to try and convict him, it is the job of the judicial system. If it does turn out that he is guilty, then by all means, lock him up and kick him out of the NFL, but until then, he is inncoent until proven guilty, the same basic right every human being in this country has.

Posted by: Scott | July 20, 2007 12:18 PM

Well i had so much fun reading all those comments. It really makes me feel good to see just how ugly and mean peta supporters are. I mena its just amazing that you all seem to know that Vick is guilty, so you all must go to dog fights alot which means you are all hypocrits or you are all a bunch of morons for being convinced of a persons guilt without hearing any of the fact from either side. I can think of too many other words to truly descibe how stupid it is to make up your mind based only on emotions and zero facts its probly one of the most Idiotic things you can do and yet almost all of you seem to actually like doing this. But really what shoudl i excpect from people who already think they are better than everyone else and that everyone who doesnt do as they say is wrong.

Posted by: greg | July 20, 2007 12:22 PM

If you are really upset about Vick and his treatment of dogs...let Nike know about it. They have set up a phone number to register your complaints. The number is 1-800-344-6453, press #5.

Posted by: coolfusion | July 20, 2007 12:28 PM

Thanks for the ideas for the t-shirt Ariel.

Also, I've been looking at many other website regarding this topic, and it looks like some good will come from all of this. I'd like to think that there will be tougher laws and that overall, animal abuses will be taken much more seriously on a national (and hopefully local) level.
Vick's sponsors are taking this very seriously, and they can't just drop him now, b/c he could take legal action against them in the future. If that were to happen, imagine this arrogant guy getting huge monetary settlements from Coca-cola, Nike, etc. That would be a slap in the face to all of us who protest him. I imagine him flipping off the world just as he flipped off that stadium full of people.

SOOO, my point is, it is in motion: sponsors & the NFL are responding, and it looks like he has a tough judge to face on the 26th. Let's stay the course, keep up the outcry, and justice will come.

Look at this site for more info and updates: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl

Posted by: Izzy | July 20, 2007 12:35 PM

wait till this guy is Convicted. He is innocent until proven guilty. It's called civil rights - PETA should respect those too.

Posted by: Veronica | July 20, 2007 12:35 PM

im all for treating animals in a humane manner, and i do not condone dogfighting. but you people ARE RIDICULOUS!!! pickett the NFL? fire roger goodell? are you serious, the nfl has nothing to do with this and michael vick has NOT been convicted of anything, and has had no other run-ins with the law, in this country you have a right to something called DUE PROCESS. BANNED FROM FOOTBALL FOREVER? hahahaha that is a an absolutely ridiculous suggestion. you people need to get a life and allow this man his due process, you people say all these bad things about mike vick but have any of you ever met the man? do any of you know him personally?

Posted by: chris | July 20, 2007 12:49 PM

The NFL is NOT a court of law (and neither is your place of business if you embarrass and humiliate your employers with your dirty deeds.)

They have EVERY RIGHT, indeed obligation, to at least suspend him.

Posted by: kelly | July 20, 2007 12:55 PM

Why are we stopping at just Vick treating animals inhumanely?

This is a spark point for us to advocate stopping hunting as a sport. Seriously why are people in some states allowed to get a license and kill animals for the sake of enjoyment.

What about slaughterhouses? There are so many non-veg people proclaiming Vick is a sick person, but what they are eating was also savagely butchered to be brought to their tables.

PETA should use this issue to catapult animal cruelty in all cases to the forefront, not just in dogfighting.

Posted by: John | July 20, 2007 01:14 PM

I love Michael Vick. Yes, I do! This moronic piece of garbage is bringing this topic in the mainstream more than I have ever seen in the past - this horrible sport has been here forever now and everyone has been turning a blind eye. So, thanks Dick. Vick.

But, one critique, people need to start naming the other 3 men indicted by name - they should be equally as attacked as Vick.

Purnell Peace (I don't even know where to start on that last name) of Virginia Beach, Virginia

Quanis Phillips of Atlanta, Georgia

Tony Taylor of Hampton, Virginia

And this is not about black vs. white, people - this is about classy vs. trashy, period.

THE RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER OF THE FALCONS.. PATHETIC .. WHAT A SLIMEBALL ARTHUR BLANK.

July 19, 2007
A Message to our Fans:

We know you’re anxious to hear more from us regarding the indictment of Michael Vickand its implications to the Falcons. Please be assured that we are working diligently on exploring our options and getting the right people involved in this situation.

This is an emotionally charged and complicated matter. There are a wide range of interests and legal issues that need to be carefully considered as we move ahead, including our need to respect the due process that Michael is entitled to.

Also, this situation affects everyone – our club, our players and associates, our sponsors, our fans and the Atlanta community among
them – so we must consider all of our customers in making any decisions. Given the differing perspectives and strong feelings around this issue, we probably won’t make everyone happy, but we are committed to doing the right thing. As the owner of this club that’s, ultimately, my responsibility.

In the meantime, know that I’m saddened and distressed about this – not for myself, but for our fans and community who have been so loyal to us. We will do
our very best to continue to earn your support.

Arthur M. Blank
Owner & CEO

We are all aware of our constitutional rights and the fact that we are ALL innocent until proven guilty. But NO ONE can honestly tell me that Mike Vick had no idea of the operation being ran on his property. Come on now people.....
I can't wait for the day he is convicted and hopefully made an example of. As far as the NFL.... Karma is a bitch! :)

RESPONSE FROM FOOTLOCKER INC. -PATHETIC AS WELL.

We are aware of the allegations against Michael Vick, as has been reported
by the media. We take these charges seriously and certainly do not
condone the unethical and illegal treatment of animals. Until additional
information becomes available, we plan to continue to offer for sale
merchandise which bears his name. We will continue to closely monitor the
situation and re-evaluate our position as additional facts become available.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too far about Vick being convicted and suspended for life. Remember a guy named Ray Lewis?

This will all build up to a frenzy, peak and then die down and be forgotten like everything else.

Posted by: Patrick | July 20, 2007 01:58 PM

You people are the masters of "spin." In this article you say that "Goodell has announced that Vick will be allowed to play when the season starts in September..." along with a link that supposedly backs up this claim. Yet if you click on the link, you learn that the linked article does not say this in any way. It simply talks about the situation and the decisions that Falcons owner Arthur Blank must now face. Goodell has given no such statement as "Vick will play" or even "Vick will maybe play." They are going to face this as any corporation would and wait till the hearing and the judgment.

But then again, what would a PETA protest be without spin?

Posted by: Alex | July 20, 2007 02:29 PM

To bad Vick and his entourage can't be treated like they treated those sweet pit bulls. I have 4 of these dogs and they are great pets. I think that beating or electricution would be to easy a punishment for Mr. Vick. I hope his gets his due in jail.

Here is hoping Michael (scumbag)Vick is injured so badly this season that he can never walk again (or make another dirty dollar), or even better, is forced to fight another human in prison until one of them is severely wounded or killed. Maybe he will understand what he has done after that....

It is pathetic that the "innocent till proven guilty" mantra is being chanted. If a public official, policeman, doctor, were indicted for these crimes, responsible people would DEMAND they step down from their positions till they were cleared in court. NFL wants to keep Vick for the almighty buck. Depraved and sad commentary on our country.

If I were indicted by the feds I would have been suspended without pay. That is what is done to teachers and my PROFESSION is considerably more important than playing football.

Chris

That was the same argument used to defile the Irish, Hispanics, blacks, women, Native Americans. It was/is degrading for those groups and it is the same when used for animals. Animals are intrinsically precious irregardless of how you view them; the same is applied to racial and ethnic groups of people. Please get an education.

Now Now...
Lets give Mr vick a fighting chance. Don't feed him for month, Electric shook him.
See if he can still play then.
If he can't play, Pick Mike up. Body slam him as hard as you can till you break his back... Ps. If Mr vick plays this yr, I will never go to another game. Season tickets cancel, Also any sponsers. I will never buy from them.. This is a outrage. Mr Vick isn't even human.

I know it is selfish to say, but today is a sad day for me. Today I write off an organization (the NFL) and a sport (football) that I loved for 35 years. Not only did I fall in love with the sport at the age of 5, but I played it up through college. Today, I cancel my NFL ticket on DirectTV and pledge that I will never (1) watch another football game, (2) watch ESPN during football season, (3) purchase any merchandise representative of the sport, (4) purchase any merchandise I knowingly is sold, manufactured or marketed by any entity related to, directly or indirectly, the NFL (e.g., any and all NFL sponsors or advertisers that I know of). It is sad that I can no longer see the game that I love and it will really be difficult during the Super Bowl which is a big party tradition with my friends and family. My pledge is nothing when you see the images of these dogs fighting. It is disgusting to see someone like Vick, who has been blessed with so much opportunity and talent, even remotely involved, if not the completely involved in this sub human behavior. To say that if he is found guilty of the charges he should rot in jail is an understatment. Perhaps equally disturbing is Roger Goodell's position on this issue and his condoning of this behavior by ignoring Vick's indictment and allowing Vick to play. I sent my letter to Goodell, and I hope you do the same. I know at least six other friends that will also write off the NFL as I hope that I can convince others. I'm angry and sad and hope the NFL takes a hit that it can't recover from--I know it is a pipe dream to think the NFL will go under, but I can dream.

Posted by: Chris | July 21, 2007 06:49 AM

In addition to writing off football which included cancelling the NFL ticket on directv, I am cancelling my Sirius subscription (which I love and listen to Howard and all the great music daily) as it carries NFL and has a station dedicated to it. I hope that XM is NFL FREE, but if not I'll go back to FREE FM. Knowing how much of an animal lover Howard Stern's fiance Beth is, Howard should understand if he loses listeners because Sirius supports/carries the NFL. If not, F him as he would say. His fiance Beth should be ashamed to be affiliated with with an entity that benfits from the NFL, an entity that condones Dogfighting and supports individuals indicted for dogfigting. All Goodell had to do was to act the same way the NYC Police department does when one of its officers are indicted of a felony--suspend with pay until final judgement. That's the least the NFL could of done and it failed. Please cancel your Sirius subscription if you have one and let them know why!!!

Posted by: Chris | July 21, 2007 06:57 AM

If Michael and his cronies did this, there has got to be a special place in hell for them. Please do not lose sight of the Commonwealth Attorney in Surry County who has chosen to do nothing. His waiting for the feds is just another excuse for him to do nothing which is what he intended to do to begin with. The killing of those dogs I believe is a state crime and pressure needs to be put on him. I am sure if he had his way none of this would have come to light I know Mr. Goddell is in the hot seat because if he suspends him and then he is found not guilty, I am sure a lawsuit would follow. I feel that he probably has enough money to buy his way out with slick lawyers so this could be what the commissioner is waiting on and it could turn into a nightmare for him. Unfortunately in our society today it seems that those with money often are above the law because they can buy themselves out.

Sharon, Thanks for reminding everyone that Va Commonwealth Attorney Poindexter has still done nothing, and would have done nothing if the Feds hadn't taken over the case. Does he have celebrity envy, is he on the take, is it race bias, or was he invited to the bloody festivities? Yesterday, I wrote both VA Senators to complain about how our local Commonwealth Attorney (I live 30 minutes from the house of horror) still refuses to issue a warrant. What's he waiting for???????Please e-mail VA Senators, John Warner and Jim Webb at www.senate.gov/~Warner (or ~Webb)to see why a VA Commonwealth Attorney refuses to act.

Why haven't the media printed a complete record of the Mike Vick indictment? If excerpts are already released, it should be public information - available via Freedom of Information (FOIA). Ask your newspaper to print the indictment in its entirety. The only way to stop this is to shine a bright light on those that hide in the shadows. Then everyone will see exactly how sick dog fighting and Mike Vick are.

Believe me, I'm not debating you about the potential lawsuit that Vick's could have with the sponsors if they drop him, but I'm wondering if he would have any grounds for a lawsuit since he has defamed the sponsors. I would like to think that he broke his contract since the sponsors actually hired and paid him to uphold their good image...(for the almighty dollar of course.)

Reading all the posts has been interesting to say the least.
You will be able to read the entire indictment in only a few days. Trust me. From what I here, it lists Vick's name 51 times. In my humble opinion, that means a lot of involvement.
As disgusted as I am with this, I can't help but think of all the professional atheletes that beat the hell out of the women they know and nothing happens.
Because he has been indicted, I believe he should be suspended, with out pay, until he has his day in court.
I also believe, that after he has his day in court, and is found guilty, that he should be put to death just like all the guys who beat their wives and girlfriends.
If we executed criminals more often, the crime would slow down. I know, a lot of people don't believe that but, let's give it a try and see what happens!!
Yes, I'm from Texas and having said that, when I found out Emmitt Smith supported Vick, I was shocked. I'm going to the Dallas website and start bashing him. Unbelievable.
You know what the sadest part about all of this is.....
Vick is going to be found guilty, he'll write a check from 1 of a 100 bank accounts that would cover it, spend maybe....but doubtful....a short amount of time in jail and then....write a book, get even richer and enjoy life...just like OJ Simpson.
I'm a huge football fan and will continue to watch football. The NFL didn't have anything to do with this....I can't think of a word bad enough to describe him....Vick's actions. In this day and age of sue and get millions....I don't blame them for waiting and seeing what happens next.
Hey...maybe we'll get lucky and Michael Vick will put a bullet through his own head and save everybody a lot of grief and money!!!

Posted by: L. Simon | July 22, 2007 08:12 PM

THESE ANIMALS WERE ON HIS PROPERTY!!!HE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON AND DID NOTHING TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION. ALL THE NFL CARES ABOUT IS THE BIG MONEY GOING INTO THEIR POCKETS. THESE WERE NOT JUST DOGS, THEY WERE LIVING, BREATHING, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES THAT WILL UNFORTUNATELY DO ANYTHING FOR THEIR OWNERS, AND THEY WERE BRUTALLY MURDERED. I'M TIRED OF PEOPLE OVERLOOKING THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO OUR ANIMAL COMPANIONS. I WONDER IF VICK WOULD LIKE TO BE ELECTROCUTED, THEN BEATEN TO DEATH, OR FORCED TO FIGHT UNTIL HE HAS TAKEN HIS LAST BREATH. I HOPE THE NFL GETS A GOOD REALITY CHECK, AND VICK GOES TO JAIL FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

Posted by: JC | July 22, 2007 09:37 PM

If Vick is allowed to play for the NFL I will never watch another game again. EVER. He needs to be terminated immediately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: chris | July 23, 2007 01:12 AM

Douchebag, please allow me to TRY to educate you on "Its just dogs."
There are many facets that I can go in to un-justify your perception of dogs, but I'm going to focus on only ONE facet, a question form, since your comments reflect somewhat of a hostile nature that may have been encouraged by a few people in your life.

When was the last time a dog or dogs stabbed you in the back, gossiped about you, treated you with intentional cruelty, mocked you, ignored you, hated you, etc.????
Well, I think you should get my drift, and I KNOW that you can't answer those questions with justification because dogs are not capable of the intentional negative behavior, attitudes, and harsh words that too many humans seem to actually make it their goal in life to hurt others.
So just asking you the next time you think "it's just dogs," think again that a dog can be your best friend in life and will never fail you. He/she will always welcome you when you come home, will never judge you, and love you just the way you are and for who you are as is.
No, they are not "just dogs." They are feeling beings who are capable of giving unconditional love and a lot of happiness. And with that, they teach us how we should behave towards one another.

this whole thing makes me sick. This guy should be booted from the NFL and beaten himself. He is suppose to be a role model for kids, however it turns out all he is is a piece of s#!t

Posted by: Darren | July 23, 2007 02:12 PM

Your statments are far from accurate. Vick has never been charged with any crime. So what's this " no stranger to a courtroom' crap. The case against Mr. Vick is strong enough without people needed to make up stuff to tag on to it. You ruin your credibility and make your point worthless. Try to do better in the future or shut-up.

Posted by: philip | July 23, 2007 03:38 PM

Look the NFL is all about money pure and simple. You can send a committee to talk to them and it is just helping their PR department. You want to change their minds, you hurt them where it hurts their pocketbook. And to do that you have to hurt their sponsors . I would make as their boycott targets Home Depot and Nike. Companies like HD and Nike are sensitive to what may seem like relatively small changes a couple of percent can have devastating consequences on their bottom line. When their sponsors start losing or see that being associated with the NFL is not good for business they will advertise someplace else.

Posted by: Paul | July 23, 2007 04:15 PM

Vick hasnt been proven guilty of anything. Until he is proven guilty in a court of law, he should continue to play. You guys talk about treating animals with love and respect but you dont think that way about your own people. Vick is a human and he deserves a fair trial before he should have his job taken away from him.

If in fact he is guilty of the charges then he should serve time, however I doubt he will due to the fact he is a rich athlete who can get himself out of anything with all the money he has.

Posted by: Ron | July 23, 2007 05:19 PM

He made some sense, NFL needs money the falcons needs money and the whole state of georgia needs vick to play even Nike said the same thing. Sure what he did was wrong but what brought him to that decision is the stupid signs, having animals on the falcons training site. You all know he was going to play and 9 times out of 10 hes not going to jail

Posted by: jay | July 23, 2007 06:57 PM

also animals doing wrong to humans is wrong as well in miami some places banned pitbulls because they kill people. they almost killed my little brother. I never heard of the PETA till today its stupid.

Posted by: jay | July 23, 2007 07:03 PM

I am so happy that Vick has brought this much attention to such a horible activity. We need to go after the root of the problem. Let's get athorities to go after Bad News Kennels and all the underground operations in Houston Texas and all the others around the USA. Vick is not the only one here performing this horific act!!! What is it going to take to bust these disgusting excuses for human beings? These people need to be dealt with and punished. What they are doing is as mean as beating up a retarded kid! You just don't do these things to innocent people or animals.

Posted by: Jennifer Aaron | July 23, 2007 07:30 PM

PETA and your members are not the only group of people on the face of the earth who have compassion for animals. There are many organizations and individuals that provide for the ethical treatment of animals and I support their efforts. You get no respect from intelligent people who know the facts and then read the way PETA spins it to try and suck more money from corporations.

The reason so many confrontations occur between PETA members and others at protests, in the media, and especially on the blogs of your website is due to the extremist behavior used in most PETA campaigns. In the world of animal rights advocacy, you initially approach issues with hatred, threats, intimidation, and abusive language as if there is no other way to resolve a situation.

You would gain more respect and monetary support for PETA if you approached people from a logical and informed perspective. A healthy debate using rational points to persuade others to join your side will get you much further than acting like a bully. Making demands that your way is the only way only leads others to believe you have no valid argument to present to support your issue.

It is easy to hide behind an acronym and hope that people will take that at face value, but the tone of your posting and your words have turned thousands of people away who were looking for a way to help. This was a wonderful opportunity for PETA to show that you are somehow better for your attacks than the people you are blaming for the actual non-ethical treatment of those animals. Most members of non-profits understand that the contribution of others is very much needed to ensure the success of your organization’s mission statement. PETA and its members should demonstrate the ability to act in the same manner that you expect the NFL and others to act when it comes to getting what your campaign is seeking.

It’s hard to say anything good came out of this sick crime but maybe there are two things we can be thankful about. A dog torturing murderer will be in prison (richer now too because PETA wanted to ‘sack him’ and force the NFL into paying him instead of waiting until Thursday when his contract would have been voided). And PETA has been exposed for what you really do – exploit animals by making them wear human clothing and dragging them around the country to be the poster child for PETA. I wish animals could speak for themselves. They would beg the rest of the world to help them get them away from all of you.

PEOPLE – you hate people with your words and actions

ETHICAL – when it suits your meaning and only when you want to use it

TREATMENT – get some quickly

ANIMALS – bless them for having you exploit them after everything else they have to go through

Does anyone know if this Michael Vick story has gotten any publicity in England? Does PETA have any influence in England? As you may know, the NFL is playing a regular season game in Wembley Stadium this year (Miami Dolphins vs. New York Giants), and the NFL is obviously making a push to promote itself in Europe. If the press in England reacted negatively to the NFL because of the Vick dogfighting, that might prompt the commissioner to do more.

VICK WAS CAUGHT RED-HANDED! CRAP WITH THE FAIR TRIAL BULL-SHIT!! DID THE DOGS HAVE A FAIR CHANCE!!! I AM SURE HE WILL GET A FAIR TRIAL JUST LIKE OJ DID!!!

Posted by: WEDEL ENTERTAINMENT, "Your Band Connection" | July 24, 2007 02:00 PM

When you famous the media loves to blow up the whole deal, If you think the Falcons are going to let Vick goto jail you need to think again. R Kelly can urinate on a under age girl and nothing has happend yet. They are going to let Vick play this year and for the next 2 to 3 years we will be waiting to see whats going to happend to him. Something new will pop up and the media will focus on that and Vick and his dog fighting will not be the number 1 topic anymore and vick will keep playing on sundays. Thats the american way
The Media and others are helping his case by showing pictures and videos on every station. Now how can he get a fair trial

Thank You PETA and the media for helping Vick get back in the game

Would everyone please quit gripping about this. Pitbulls are very vicous doge that probably would have killed eachother if they would have met in the wilddoes that mean we need to round up all animals that fight and kill eachother. This is an extremely stupid thing to be protesing and worrying about when there are children around the world being forced to fight and kill. If you can honestly sit there and teel me that Mike Vick fight ruthless pitbulls is more of a problem than children fighting to the death than there is nothing that can be done for you and someone needs to take you to Somalia and show what true pain and suffering is. BACK OFF VICK AND START WORRYING ABOUT THINGS THAT MATTER MORE THAN DOGS!!!!!

Posted by: Larry | July 24, 2007 03:36 PM

ONLY RESPONSE I CAN MAKE TO P.E.T.A ADVOCATES WHO ARE UNJUSTLY TRYING TO SABOTAGE MIKE VICK IS, INSTEAD OF FIGHTING DOGS, HE SHOULD HAVE HAD P.E.T.A. PROTESTERS FIGHTING IT OUT. THEN AGAIN, ARE ANY OF YOU STRONG ENOUGH TO DO MORE THAN JUST RUN YOUR MOUTHS. I FOR SURE KNOW YOU ARE NOT BECAUSE I HOPE TO WALK THRU A PROTEST WITH MY WIFE WEARING A FUR AND ONE OF YOU DO SOMETHING TO HARM IT. FORGET THE MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY I COULD HAVE OFFICERS CHARGE YOU WITH. AND FORGET THE BEWARE OF GUN SIGN. HOWEVER, BEWARE OF THE OWNER BEHIND THE GUN.....

Posted by: JOHN R | July 24, 2007 04:47 PM

Vick's just a another dummy. The extent of his guilt doesn't matter. It's over. Legal system? Don't bother watching. Forget about it. And OJ didn't do it either. Screw Vick and his bros. There's a time and place for an old fasion lynching, and guess what, this is that time.

Posted by: Dan S | July 24, 2007 09:53 PM

CHRIS!!! You are too funny "im never gonna watch the NFL again" lol are u serious the NFL doesnt agree with dog fighting what was goodell supposed to do ban Vick from the NFL to never let him play again and if he comes up not guilty then what he would have convicted him before his trial and thats not fair grow up u sound like a baby!! Do you people know that by boycotting all these business you could be hurting innocent people and there families but I guess that doesnt matter to you people. Didnt your parents tell you think before you speak or youll just end up saying something stupid. So just shut up lol you sound so stupid thanks for the laugh though it made my day that much better. "Eat more Chicken"

Posted by: cross | July 25, 2007 09:42 AM

Posted by: cross | July 25, 2007 09:49 AM

people like shawn ferguson bring shame to this country, and put sports starts on a pedestal.

Shame on you Shawn ferguson or fuckerson or what ever your name is. You must be a typical red neck back wood, uncivilized man.

I dont give a da?? how good of a player he vick is, he means sh?? to me.

Posted by: aroon | July 25, 2007 03:13 PM

That is sad that he is playing. But what do expect out of our country that is made out of money power and greed. He is a wonderful athlete so who cares about those dogs...... that is so fucking sad. It is sad that we forget that there are people fighting in Iraq. It is sad that this man makes millions of dollars. It is sad that god only knows what he does to his children or his wife. He is another OJ... Who is just going to fucking walk..... Not take any responsibilty for his life. Like the president of the united states... People need to start taking responsiblity for there actions....

Posted by: pitbull | July 26, 2007 12:15 AM

I'm in love with Michael Vick, to the point where I wanted to marry him but I believe what he did was wrong and I think he should be accountable for what he did. IF he is not convicted I hope he will be able to go on with his life without people bothering him, and I don't think he should be able to own another dog. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I love MIchael Vick

Posted by: tia | July 26, 2007 03:00 PM

blah, blah, blah scum bag, blah, blah, race card, blah, dogs are innocent, blah, blah, thug, blah, blah. I hope he plays just to shut up you whining people. Good god. Who cares? I don’t care about football, Vick, or PETA. But what ever races that are here commenting sound like either whining white people ready to blame Vick for black people problems, Or its black people playing the race card. All I hear is blah, blah, blah, and thug. Please direct your comments to whinningwhitepeople.com or blacksplayingracecard.com. Get over it already.

CROSS, LARRY, and the like above, you people are SO ignorant, that is defies logic!
Do you realize that you are not applying rationale to this horrendous situation?

CROSS, apparently YOU weren't taught to think before you speak because you are an authority on stupid comments and being silly. I get the impression that you are an irresponsible juevenile.

LARRY, pit bulls are not naturally vicious. Only SOME can be trained to be vicious. That's why it was included in Vick's 18-page indictment that there were dogs who were tortured and killed because they failed to "perform." Basically, they are sweet, gentle dogs.
Now, what did you have in mind for us to do about ALL of the world's woes? And what are you doing about them?
And since you are complaining about all this "griping," do yourself a favor: use some common sense and don't bother reading the comments on this w/s. Put your concerns about the world into action rather than wasting your time on this site.

AN OPEN STATEMENT TO ALL OF YOU VICK SUPPORTERS: You are actually telling us that YOU condone cruelty and viciousness that is consistent with sociopath behavior, despite the fact of a federal indictment that was prompted by evidence and eye-witness statements. So in fact, you are telling us that YOU are vicious, cruel people...who don't have anything better to do than make stupid, irrational comments.

Posted by: Ariel | July 27, 2007 11:05 AM

you are "in love" with the animal abuser?
then you are in support of the horrendous, disgusting crime;
but don't worry - you'll meet your match...

Posted by: Theresa Aulig | July 27, 2007 02:53 PM

dear dana,

you are an idiot i cant stand people who think like you. pitbulls are NOT made to fight. i myself own a pitbull and i would NEVER fight him. my dog is a great dog despite his bad reputation for the kind of breed he his. my pit can be trusted to play with toddlers, kids, and other animals as well. a dog is like a family member. if you had a kid would you train him to fight and possibly be killed just like a dog? from the sounds of it you probably are stupid enough just to do that. i think you need to pull your head out of your ass and think before you type dumbass!

Posted by: sarah | July 28, 2007 02:44 PM

Vick is a sick man. Yes, he is sick because the allegations say so. Um... Child predators are sick. Rapists are sick. Serial killers are sick. Dog fighters...well...um I think...maybe. No I can't really say they are sick. I do think however think they have an abnormal aggression for a blood sport. Then again so do Americans. Come to think about it, I really don't care. Sorry. I tired of hearing about this tired subject. Post all your whining when he’s found guilty and not before. It probably will make some you all look more credible instead of looking like some media puppets. And the mob gathers……

Posted by: patrillo | July 30, 2007 10:31 PM

he should be treated like any other person would be for these horrific actions. It doesn't matter if he is famous or a professional player. No fans of his are going to want him playing and look up to him once they hear of this. He needs to be punished

Posted by: erin | August 1, 2007 03:05 PM

God, I hate PETA! WHAT ABOUT US! Quick, we need a celebrity race us.

Posted by: Greyhounds | August 1, 2007 05:46 PM

Vick is innocent until proven guilty, and therefore has the right to play.

I have two pits, one female who already had a litter of 13 and is now fixed, and a male who will never be fixed. They're both the sweetest dogs you could imagine, and yet they have themselves been involved in unorganized spouts with other pit bulls.

I personally am a believer of the fact that pit bulls enjoy fighting, in the same spirit that mixed martial artists enjoy person-to-person contact. Not all pits are fighters, and no dog that doesn't want to fight should be made to. No fights should go until the death or until a dog is seriously injured, but i would like to see a professional dog fighting league similar to UFC where dogs that enjoy a good fight can compete in an organized, professional manner.

Fight the power! We should be persecuting the racist slave owners who created the historically and systematically biased socio-economic conditions in the dirty south, rather than locking down a successful brother who has managed to make a fine example of himself by overcoming such a harsh environment and becoming an American icon. Again, Fight the power... bitch ass hippies

the sick part is you people think you actually made nike drop vick. this has nothing to do with peta, you whackjobs are laughing stock of society. I am not saying fighting dogs is right, I am just saying you (peta members) are a laughing stock the way you carry yourselves. self righteous dicks!

The New Jim Crow Law...guilt without court.

Posted by: tony | August 11, 2007 11:59 AM

I will not buy nor my family any products that I see on the NFL has on their commercials. Nor will I watch FOOTBALL ever again.
This is horrible if they allow VICK and any other convict to play a much honored sport of AMERICA.
THE COURTS SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING. Everyone needs to turn in people that are involved in dogfighting to the proper authorities.
