Michael Vick has just been indicted in the investigation of dog-fighting on his Virginia property. I’ll give you more information tomorrow, but in the meantime, this is PETA’s official statement on the topic:

PETA’s offices, located just over an hour away from Michael Vick’s rural mansion—where we now know dozens if not hundreds of dogs were forced to fight to the death in the pit—has been receiving vague allegations of Vick’s involvement in illegal animal fighting activity for years, sadly without much concrete evidence to back it up. While local authorities—who have historically mishandled dogfighting cases—sat on evidence in this case, the U.S. Attorney’s office was obviously determined to get the job done. The professional sports world is plagued with players who have been accused, charged, or convicted of cruelty to animals, abusing pit bulls, and dog fighting, and we hope that this indictment sends a loud and clear message to players and the NFL that celebrity is not a sufficient excuse for breaking the law, and that animal abuse should never be tolerated under any circumstances.

As a sports afficiando and simultaneous animal advocate, I sincerely hope PETA can lead a HUGE campaign of awareness on the abuse of animals by sports figures, Micahel Vick and Ron Artest (NBA) leading the pack of perpetrators.

While perhaps not every citizen will agree on the merits or demerits of vegetarianism or vegan lifestyles, all humanity can unite in protesting this particular injustice against animals. Dogfighting is a heinous crime, nor more, no less. Thanks, PETA for putting the info out there so quickly.

I just heard the allegations that Mike Vick (aka Ron Mexico) is being charged with and I must say as a pet owner, I am digusted. Not only the were the dogs being forced to fight, but the manner is which some of the dogs were executed is very disturbing. If these things are true, I hope PETA puts alot of pressure of the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons to make sure Vick is suspended indefinitely.

Posted by: Curt Stahl | July 17, 2007 07:08 PM

Michael Vick needs to be terminated immediately and cut off from all NFL's legal representation. If the NFL has any dignity he will be gone within 24 hrs. And he should be prosectuted to the full extent of the law.

As a caretaker of a Hurricane Katrina survivor, I still get teary thinking about where Bob would have ended up if he wasn't with us. This is unimaginable.

Can someone post all of Mike Vick's sponsors, so that we can contact them! I know that Nike is one, but that is it.
Thanks!

Posted by: Angela | July 17, 2007 07:28 PM

After conviction, his punsihment should include being placed in an enclosed area with several fighting pitbulls that have been captured.

If he survives that, then throw him in jail for 10 years or more.

Please go to the Atlanta Falcons website and respond to their vague official statement in which they maintain that they will "support their players" through this ordeal. I encouraged them to make clear to the public the gravity of the allegations against their player who may deserve to be reprimanded more than supported at this time.

I too just read the news about Michael Vick's indictment and was brought to tears. We can only hope his sponsors will drop him in order to further drive home the message that animal cruelty is not tolerable from ANYONE. I agree with Alyssa in hopes that you, PETA will put pressure on the Atlanta Falcons for an indefinite suspension.

Is Nike a sponsor? I emailed them and told them if they are, that no one I know will use their products!

Hello my name is Patrick and although I'm not a member of your organization...I still believe in the ethical treatment of animals. As a proud owner of 2 beautiful dogs...and a fan of the NFL...I BEG YOU to go after this scumbag!!! PLEASE!!! Whatever it takes...take him down. There is a special place in hell for people like him. Just because he's an NFL quarterback with millions of dollars, doesn't mean he can treat dogs like that. I hope he never sees the field again.

Posted by: Patrick | July 17, 2007 10:32 PM

PETA... please give this dirtbag hell!!!

Posted by: Allie | July 17, 2007 11:04 PM

I cannot believe this is going on still today. I have a pittbull and everyone thinks she is mean because of her breed, but she is the sweetest most loving dog in the world. I have been a strong supporter of animal rights for years and wish PETA would focus more on cruelty to dogs and cats. I think that Michael Vick should not only be fined, but all of his assets should be seized to help the SPCA and other animal cruelty places. Otherwise he will just start again when he gets out of jail with all of his millions.

Posted by: Dee Dee | July 17, 2007 11:05 PM

I am surprised at the laize' faire stance that Peta is taking. I was expecting more information on how we can assist in convicting and/or how to contact commissioner Goodall to have Vick banned from the NFL. Quite frankly I am disappointed.

Posted by: Melissa | July 17, 2007 11:27 PM

Remember when you read about an innocent person injured by a "bad" pit bull that has been badly bred and mistreated to make it mean, that there are unscrupulous, heartless, unfeeling people who took a lovely breed of dog and tried to breed the good out of it. People like Michael Vick are responsible for cruelty to animals and cruelty to people. They are among the lowest of the human specie. I hope they throw the book at this SOB and I am so sorry for the lives of the dogs who suffered at his hands because they simply did not have in in them to be mean enough. He is a monster and all the money in the world could never elevate such a person. I am disgusted.

Posted by: Ike Warren | July 18, 2007 12:05 AM

clear your mind a second and just think---what kind of person would hang, electrocute, drown, or slam to the ground til dead an already suffering totally innocent animal? I submit they derived more pleasure from murder than from dogfighting. its a sad situation, a society with such distorted priorities that this kind of person rises to celebrity status. there's a huge lesson here, people need to take a closer look at their priorities, at the products being pushed on them. Meanwhile, Vick and his "hood" buddies can rot in hell.

Posted by: jim | July 18, 2007 12:25 AM

I agree with Melissa, Why is this not plastered all over PETA's homepage? When this first started in April I came to this sight for more info and found nothing! PETA, this is your opportunity to expose and help eradicate dog fighting and over all dog abuse nationwide. Carry the banner and lead the charge!!!!!!!

Posted by: Andy | July 18, 2007 12:26 AM

As I looked at his smiling face in photos posted across other websites ... all I see is the face of pure evil. What he and other heartless, evil individuals did deserves punishment to the highest degree. Torturing living beings is not tolerated in our society and those that do should not be permitted in it. Another disgusting "role" model ...

Posted by: Elizabeth | July 18, 2007 12:31 AM

I THINK THAT THE FALCONS NEED TO RETHINK KEEPING MICHAEL VICK. HE IS A DISGRACE TO THE NFL & MOST DEFINITELY TO THE HUMAN RACE AND WILL ONLY BRING THE FALCONS DOWN!

I PERSONALLY WILL BY WORD OF MOUTH RALLY AGAINST MICHAEL AND THE FALCONS FOR HIS INHUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS!

I DO NOT FEEL THAT 6 YEARS IN PRISON WILL BE HARSH ENOUGH! HE SHOULD HAVE TO SPEND THE FULL 6 YEARS + IN JAIL SERVING HARD TIME WITH HARDENED CRIMINALS AND HE SHOULD BE FINED AT LEAST ONE YEAR OF HIS SALARY WHICH SHOULD BE DONATED TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY FOR THE CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.... JUSTICE! UNFORTUNATELY, THERE IS NO JUSTICE FOR THE DOGS THAT HE KILLED OR FOR ANY OF THE POOR DOGS THAT HE FOUGHT, ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT DIED FROM FIGHTING THAT WE DO NOT EVEN KNOW ABOUT!

Posted by: SHERRIE BADEAUX | July 18, 2007 01:57 AM

I would hope that PETA would provide more contact information for the companies who hire this scumbag to promote their products! I have already wriiten the Atlanta Falcons and will write the NFL commissioner next!

Posted by: Anna | July 18, 2007 02:08 AM

People are innocent until proven guilty, however, if such a person is found guilty I wonder why: 1) The violence in Iraq isn't enough to suffice for some individuals, and; 2) What PR role will PETA have in assuring this person goes to jail, previous incidents of such crimes have always resulted in prison sentences for "non-superstar status assigned" individuals. Just a thought.....

Posted by: Dave and his yellow lab "Nasda" | July 18, 2007 02:09 AM

I am very upset and disgusted over this! He needs to be stripped of what he has and punished to the max. I hope he NEVER plays again! As far as his apperance on Fox 5 stating "his fans will stick beside him no matter what"... I have one thing to say about that.. I will stick by who ever puts him away and gives him a maximum sentence. What a low life person. He is scum of the earth in my book.Let him rot in hell!!!

Posted by: Kim | July 18, 2007 02:11 AM

As an NFL fan I am to ashamed. Why? Because I just realized as a season ticket holder, a subscriber to various NFL channels, and a proud sports ware wearer that my hard earned dollars end up (somehow along the dollar chain) in the hands of disgusting criminals who behave poorly. It doesnt matter if Vick is guilty or not, I probably have a couple of my dollars invested in the Virginia property and it was used as a place to kill these devine beings.

I just canceled my seasons tickets, canceled my NFL package on direct TV, and I am suggesting to others to stop the flow of dollars to these killers. I sleep tonight knowing I have done what I can to accept my own responsibiity.

I hope the spirit of these beautiful animals lives on to destroy the real beasts.

Posted by: We created this monster. | July 18, 2007 02:52 AM

IF Vick and the two other men are convicted, they ONLY face $350,000 and 6 years in prison- which will likely be reduced to several months or simply probation. The actions that they took deserve far more serious penalties. As a professional athlete, Vick is automatically in a leadership position and being how he has abused this power, I think he should be banned from the NFL.

Posted by: Mischa | July 18, 2007 06:56 AM

I'm sure PETA will be doing more today. The information came late in the day yesterday and was really kinda surprised to see it on Jack's blog. Good goin', dude!

Meanwhile I was repulsed at my local sportscaster last night on the 10 pm news who ended his report on the wonderful news with "more problems for the NFL". Who gives a you-know-what about the NFL?!?! This is a horrible, vicious, reprehensible CRIME against sentinet beings.

I will be contacting the sports guy at that station today. I love that these news programs all have websites and emails for on air staff...ahh...the internet is a good thing...

Posted by: Tamara | July 18, 2007 06:56 AM

I will never go to see another Falcons game, or shop at Home Depot (same owner as the Falcons) as long as Micheal Vick is on that team

Posted by: Beth | July 18, 2007 07:27 AM

The Province of Quebec, Canada is no exception to this kind of animal cruelty. I hope the U.S. Attorney's office will lay down the law on this guy and his accomplices and set an example for those harming and neglecting animals in the canadian province of Quebec where no law exists to protect animals whatsoever. Thank you...Terri...Montreal.

According to the indictment, dogs that didn't show enough fighting spirit, or that lost matches, were put to death by a variety of methods, including SHOOTING, DROWNING, HANGING and ELECTROCUTION. Prosecutors allege that on one occasion earlier this year, Vick participated in killing eight dogs.
These poor puppies have now found peace under the rainbow bridge. I hope this idiot rots in hell.

Posted by: Shannon | July 18, 2007 08:44 AM

I think PETA needs to get a couple of petitions going against Michael Vick and send them to all of his sponsors so they can drop him.

Posted by: Robyn | July 18, 2007 08:45 AM

There is only one course of action now...the Falcons must cut him, (since it will be a BIG distraction anyway), and the NFL must susoend him indefinately. If they could suspend Pacman Jones, simply on allegations, then Michael Vick must also be suspended for moral reasons and the fact he was indicted by the federal government.

Posted by: Paul Calpin | July 18, 2007 08:46 AM

I hope that PETA brings all of its considerable power and prestige to bear on the conviction of Michael Vick and all of the individuals associated in this dogfighting ring. Monied celebrities need to be held accountable and responsible for their crimes - and this is a heinous crime against animals - instead of the courts "winking" and giving out slap-on-the-wrist punishments. These people need to do some serious jail time, and Michael Vick's sponsors and the Atlantic Falcons need to drop him.

I just heard of this this morning. What can people do to make sure he gets the punishment he deserves?

Posted by: dawn stone | July 18, 2007 09:19 AM

While the allegations against Vick are deplorable and if found guilty he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law at this point he is innocent. We are in serious trouble as a society if acts such as dog fighting go unpunished, but in my opinion we are in even more trouble if we are simply mouthing the words "innocent until proven guilty" without actually believing them.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 18, 2007 09:32 AM

It is difficult to even read about this crime without getting sick to the stomach. I'm not only an animal rights supporter but the companion of an abandoned pit bull. Who, by the way is a fun and funny loving, smart and loyal buddy. Michael Vichs is a football star and to many children throughout the country a hero. Is this the example we want our children to follow. He can not be allowed to get away with this atrocity. For the dogs and for the children I hope,if found guilty, he is given the maximum sentence for his crimes. I will be writing the NFL and as many of his sponsors that I can find.

Has anyone thought of this? What is the I.Q. of a "dog fighting" owner and is this a factor as to why this "sport" continues in our so called enlightened society??????????????? Why do we tolerate this cruelty and elevate these people to be wellknown idols?? Are we crazy????

Posted by: J.Hall | July 18, 2007 10:10 AM

There is only ONE thing for both the Atlanta Falcons and the NFL to do
with this sick individual who is a criminal (on many accounts including MURDER)... ban Vick from Football FOR LIFE !

I don't know if we can count on our court system, specially when it comes to rich high profile individuals, most likely will not serve any prison term and a $ 350.000 fine for him is a drop in the bucket. (after all it was only dogs, they killed, tortured, electrocuted, and slammed against the ground until their brains would gush out of the animals head)

It's time for the individual teams, their owners and the NFL to finally stand up and remove all (past & present) players that have committed a crime.

I saw "sicko Vick" in Miami during the last Super Bowl, signing autographs (in the company with other NFL players also signing), dressed like "one of the hood", a "gansta", at one time during his obnoxious behavior, acting like he was
God himself, he made a cocking a gun gesture to a young boy that was tugging on his shirt to get his autograph, while he said to the kid, "back up kid, y're annoying".

If they don't, we can once again see what it's all about for the owners and their football organization... the almighty dollar.

Do the right thing:
BAN MICHAEL VICK FROM FOOTBALL FOR LIFE !

Posted by: John a footbal fan and dog lover | July 18, 2007 10:13 AM

This guy needs to be locked up for a long time. The NFL must have known about this.

Posted by: Mitch | July 18, 2007 10:25 AM

I am also personally appalled and disgusted by Vick's actions, whatever the level of his involvement in these heinous crimes. I urge PETA to stay on this on behalf of pet owners and lovers everywhere to ensure that these animals are given voices and proper justice. I will personally do whatever I can in this effort, including contacting the Falcons directly and ALL of Vick's sponsors. If found guilty, this man should be banned from football for life and given the absolute harshest sentence allowable under the law. Even that won't be enough. If there is a hell - I'm sure he is headed there....

Posted by: Nbc | July 18, 2007 10:28 AM

Thank you for putting in Michael Vick's sponsors and I too am a bit surprised that there is not more helpful information on what PETA supporters can do to rally for this horrible act. I did send an e-mail to the PETA liason and the e-mail was returned back to me by an unknown e-mail, which I did get from the PETA web-site. I know PETA will come back strong on this and I know all of us out there will rally to help! As with every other animal cruelty story my heart breaks for those animals.

Posted by: Joyce | July 18, 2007 10:30 AM

If found guilty you are right he needs to get the same punishment those poor creatures endured and then if he loses put to death in the same manner being put in jail would be too good for him unless he is put in a jail cell with a animal for the rest of his natural life
it is disgusting that anyone could do that to a animal that loves unconditionally

Posted by: pam | July 18, 2007 10:32 AM

PETA PLEASE get the ball rolling on what we can all do to respond to this brutality ASAP with as much impact as possible while it's getting such broad media coverage. It's been covered this AM on NPR at least 3 times already which has a huge listening base. I was shocked to find no course of organized action yet up here on PETA's site. Football is HUGE, and so often people put on blinders to misconduct and corruption when it involves their favorite team. Let's not let this be the case here.

Thanks to all the previous posters who have researched Vick's sponsors and listed other organizations to contact in regards to this cruelty. There are so many people who will be outraged and disgusted by this news when they hear it, but who may not be savvy enough in activism to know how to put their outrage to good use. PETA, please help us spread the word, educate, and inspire people to take a stand against this!

Posted by: kelly | July 18, 2007 10:32 AM

I am not a PETA member but a dog owner and animal lover. This story makes me angry and sick at the same time. I am firing off angry emails to the NFL, The Falcons, and all his sponsors. I just wanted to note that the email adress someone gave above for the Falcons came back as not valid. They are probubly getting so much hate mail they shut it down. I guess i will have to send it to all his corporate sponsors instead!

Posted by: David | July 18, 2007 10:38 AM

I also would like to know who are the sponsors for Mr. Vick are. Also, how do I contact the NFL comissioner to let him know that Mr. Vick should be at the very least suspended?

Posted by: William Kennedy | July 18, 2007 10:40 AM

PETA -- PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST -- everyone around the globe should stand up and protest if ANY team allows this guy to play professional sports again or if any sponser supports him. This guy needs to be made an example of!!!! Make his life as miserable as he made those poor animals.

Posted by: Tris | July 18, 2007 10:42 AM

Vick is a thug and a joke, granted. But would you folks be demanding similar punishment of a dog if a stray bites a child? I doubt it. Yep, these dogs didn't deserve such cruelty. I too find it interesting that PETA has this posted the story as an "oh yeah, there's this" on their website. I wonder if it had been Peyton Manning, would it be displayed differently? Any guesses?

Posted by: Mitchie | July 18, 2007 10:48 AM

I am not usually a supporter of PETA and this is why. Why is it that we hear more from PETA regarding Michael Moore's weight or Britney Spears purchase of a $3000 dog than we do a legitimate case of animal cruelty, such as this one regarding an equally known NFL player?

Please someone post the names of this man's sponsors because this is the only way we are going to bring him down. If he gets probation or a suspended sentence the NFL will reinstate him and make some lame excuse. There needs to be a concerted campaign to make it clear that people who watch football and people who buy products sponsored by athletes will not support anyone who engages in this horrendous activity.

I think that the NFL should fire Michael Vick and that he should not be allowed to play football ever again. He is a low life person, how horrible this is that he has done to these dogs, it is a known fact that if a person would hurt a animal they would hurt children. Come on PETA put the pressure on the NFL. Thank you.

Posted by: Jamie Hodges | July 18, 2007 11:39 AM

I'm surprised and appalled that PETA has had information and heard rumors for years regarding Vick's dog fighting and yet choose to take no action to substantiate these allegations. Is that because Vick is a celebrity? Is it because PETA is really concerned about the animals? Historically PETA has regularly ignored the real causes of abuse in favor of rhetoric. PETA in my opinion is more interested in media coverage than abused animals. In my opinion which is substantiated by PETA's refusal to help the dogs abused by Vick and the other animals referred to in professional sports should be renamed People for the Endangerment of Today's Animals. You people are disgusting.

LETTER TO THE ATLANTA FALCONS"

How can your organization sit back and NOT issue a statement about the idiot, Michael Vick, and express your disappointment of one of your players that is raking in MILLIONS EACH YEAR. "lET THE JUSTICE SYSTEM DO IT'S WORK" is a stupid thing to say about this situation.

There is a problem in this country of people using INNOCENT animals for monatary gain and this is the lowest of all.

Pitiful animals being starved, chained and MADE to fight for this idiot's personal satisfaction is a mortal sin.
don't tell me that he did not know what was going on, on the property that he OWNED, but that will be his excuse, I'm sure.

Well, then he should have known who was living on hos property and just like someone falls and hurts himself whike in my home, I AM RESPONSIBLE.

Instead of this FOOL having a children's camp or something to benefit children on his LARGE ESTATE, he runs a dog fighting ring.

His punishment should be put into a pen of pit bulls, that have been fought, starved and chained and "LET EM GO".

I WILL NEVER WATCH OR GO TO ANOTHER FALCON GAME AS LONG AS I LIVE IF YOU LET HIM GET AWAY WITH THIS AND I'M SURE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY FAN THAT FEELS THIS WAY.

I'm sending this letter to every blog that I can find. Now get it together, stop his money, cancel his contract and get real.

Posted by: Erin N | July 18, 2007 12:42 PM

Here are some things we can do until PETA and the Humane Society are able to mobilize a campaign to suspend Vick indefinitely.

First, go to petitiononline.com and search for Michael Vick. They have an online petition, and so far 1,200 have signed it, but we need many more signatures in order to make a difference.

Next, call Joanna Hunter with the NFL at (212) 450-2449 and give her your thoughts.

Lastly, you can email the Atlanta Falcons at feedback@fans.atlantafalcons.com
and insist that they do the right thing.

Hope this helps. Please mobilize us, PETA! We want to send a clear message that this sick behavior will not be tolerated!

on www.11alive.com under google you can read that AirTran Airways didn't renew their contract with Michael Vick concerning this scandal!!!

FYI, my email to the Falcons was just bounced back to me. I went to their website to make sure I had the right address, and it is correct. Hopefully this means they're being bombarded with messages!

Punishment? Lets hook Vicks up to the mating device with Artest coming at him! Im disgusted and deeply saddened. Lets stay on this one and fight for the innocent!

Peta Please show us how we can help, there are many many of us out here who are so horrified by this and we need to do something. Please get on this right away. Thank you to the many who posted with email address's and web sites. WE WANT TO HELP , so PETA please show us how

If this would have been a couple of rich white business CEO's or a couple of southern rednecks PETA would be all over the media and camping out at the Falcon's doorstep! What a double standard...PETA this is your chance, but you will blow it due to your political bias.

Wow. Do you people know that if your ancestors were all vegetarians you wouldn't be alive today? Humans eat meat. We always have, that is why our teeth are shaped the way they are - morons.

I am against staged animal fighting - yes. But, come one people. This is not worth banning him from the NFL.

Go buy some really good BBQ sauce, slow broil some ribs, put them on the BBQ, invite some more of your animal loving friends over for a good old fashion backyard grill. Enjoy life you lame, didn't have any friends while growing up, my priest touched me now I'm messed up in the head, black sheep, unwanted family member vegetarians.

A protest of all Vick's sponsers should be held until they and the NFL cut all affiliations with Vick. Because sadly he only faces up to 6 years in prison, not that huge of a penalty, but we really need to hit him where it hurts, in the pocketbook!!!!

Posted by: Ruthie Alexander | July 18, 2007 01:32 PM

I just sent an email to Atlanta Falcons through their online form and it seemed to go through. After I sent it I was looking at their site and noticed they have the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation... What a great example they have provided for the youth that they are mentoring!

Posted by: Angela | July 18, 2007 01:34 PM

Cindy, Vick was just indicted yesterday. Like any other American facing a criminal charge he is considered innocent until proven guilty (which shouldn't be that hard to do). Now is the time to act and mount a massive campaign to get his endorsement deals severed (companies wouldn't have lifted a finger in the past based solely on "vague allegations"). Now is also the time to make the general public acutely aware of the atrocities of dog-fighting, and other types of animal fighting.

Posted by: Mike | July 18, 2007 01:36 PM

The humane society web site has a letter that you can and sign to the NFL. Every go there and support this effort to make sure Mike Vick is punished.

Help! I tried to get in touch w/ some Vick sponsers this morning and am having a hard time. The Atlanta Falcons was easy to contact via e-mail, Nfl organization, I could not find an appropriate contact site, Nike.com, I could not find a contact site.Wendys constact site is "down". I called Wendys, was on hold for an hour, when customer service answered I told them I was trying to complain about Vick, because he was listed on Peta's site, they said, "well Peta has killed thousands of animals" Can you belive it? After trying for 3 hours I gave up. Please could someone compile a site which lists all sponsors, and the best way to get in touch with them. One positive on Nfl site, 99.9% of comments are crucifying him, and want him fired, which considering the macho members, was the best news of my day.

Posted by: nan mcclain | July 18, 2007 01:43 PM

Todd, have you ever looked at a cat's teeth. Not just the fangs at the front (which I take it you don't have), but the back teeth. Their back teeth are peaked to shear flesh. Now if you look in the mirror, your back teeth (I presume) are flat for grinding food, like grains, fruits and vegetables. And why are you cooking your meat, and using a knife and fork? Just sink your claws into it and have at it with your carnivore's teeth.

Posted by: Anonymous | July 18, 2007 01:49 PM

Tris, a stray dog who bites a child is fundamentally different from Michael Vick, a wealthy, HUMAN being torturing and killing innocent animals. Dogs don't kill for the "fun" of it. They bite to protect themselves from perceived threats, or if they are conditioned to fight, both of which are based on human activity, not the dog's. They should throw the book at Vick and at the very least suspend him from the NFL forever. This kind of depravity shows no regard for the miracle of life that lives within all beings. I am beyond disgusted with his actions and I can only hope he will receive a harsh sentence that will not only bring animal cruelty to the fore, where it belongs, but also to scare other idiots like Vick into abandoning these savage ways.

When I look into the loyal eyes of my dog I am almost brought to tears at the thought of what those poor animals endured. If there was any justice, Vick would already be in a jailcell with a bunch of big, burly animal lovers. I hope you rot in hell Michael Vick and I will never buy another Nike or Coca-cola product unless Vick is dropped! (can't live without Kraft, they make everything!!).

Michael Vick is a very sick individual. If you look at the indictment he had a "rape stand" where females were tied and forced to mate with males!! Posted by: Janis | July 18, 2007 02:25 PM

it's called an indictment, not a conviction. our government was also convinced (or so they claimed) that there were WMDs in Iraq (as if that would justify a war crime), but lookie that - turned out to be completely false. but that wasn't a few hundred animals being killed - it was only a few hundred thousand humans killed.

how about, you know, innocent until proven guilty? how about, you know, let's see the evidence? i know he's only a professional black athlete and all, but still.

as for PeTA's involvement, or lack thereof, I'm not sure how it's possible to hide behind a 'flimsy evidence' defense for _years_. dude is from your town - go investigate - hire a PI - get someone on the inside - contact Vick to tell him your heard this and that and 'you hope it is not true' - this is just not rocket science - there were myriad ways PeTA could have been involved in shutting down that operation. what else are you doing w/ my subscription money?

There was an excellent report on this on Anderson Cooper 360 last night:

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2007/07/18/griffin.dog.fighting.cnn

(sorry I can't hyperlink it...just cut-and-paste)

This isn't just about protecting these animals...this is about a vile, criminal enterprise encompassing drugs, gangs, guns, gambling, etc. And the worst part is that children are being exposed to this.

Posted by: BullyDawg | July 18, 2007 02:34 PM

to Todd:
carnivors have short intestines to evacuate the meat poisons quickly - humans have like the other vegetarians long intestines for a long digestion of veggies!
carnivors have teeth and claws for to catch the prey -
humans have flat teeth like other vegetarians for to grind the corn and veggies!
carnivors all sweat from their tongue -
humans sweat like all the vegetarians from the body!

but the most remarkable thing is that all the vegetarian species including the human have a much longer life than the carnivors species!

I am an Atlanta Falcons fan, and have been a fan of Michael Vick since college. I am not a PETA member and do not normally post here. I think it is appropriate to go after Vick's sponsors at this time, and also appropriate to pressure the NFL to take action on this issue, although you must realize that the NFL cannot do anything without a conviction, not can the Falcons fire or suspend Vick without any conviction. Punishing the NFL or Falcons for not firing Vick does not make sense, as they cannot legally do that. This is still America and we are innocent until proven guitly, just like you cannot be fired from your job because you are accused of a crime. Having said that, I hope the Falcons choose to not start Vick, and let Joey Harrington take the reigns. That IS within their legal rights, and would be appropriate based on the level of alligations. You guys should also be aware at the many NFL players who have come out in support of Vick, saying, "If he wants to fight dogs, that's his choice, leave him alone." This tells me it is a very acceptage "hobby" in certain subcultures, and something that really needs to be addressed at a much larger level in sports.

I also think the criticism of Ron Artest is a bit over the top, especially comparing his actions to the alledged actions of Mike Vick.

Posted by: Paul | July 18, 2007 02:41 PM

Hmmm...It seems that alot of people are jumping to conclusions...maybe you should wait until he is convicted before passing judgement....innocent until proven guilty..not the other way around...the burden of proof is on the state...not Vick!

Peta,
We need to have been given more information on this mental midget.
He and his group are nothing
but a bunch of Bottom Feeders.
We also need to be given more information about the slaughtering of the horses.
I have been recieving information about the horses
from so many groups everyday.
I have been sent phone #'s
everyday to call in every state.
I call at least 30 Rep's and Senators daily.
I am on this site every single day, you need your people to get on the ball.
To call Reps and senators, it takes about 3 to 4 hours a
day even less.
Remember, one step at a time.
After the horses are free, it shall be time to set the farm animals free.
I just finshed a great book.
The title is, "Igniting a
Revolution."
Also a great read is The World Peace Diet, written by Will Tuttle.com
He and his wonderful wife are absolutely heaven sent.
Please do not miss these books.
Also go to Lantern books.com
You shall never regret these books.....

"Thank you for contacting us regarding Michael Vick.

There is no change in the status of the agreement between Nike and
football player Michael Vick. Nike will continue to monitor the situation,
but has nothing further to say at this time.

We appreciate that you took the time to contact us and your feedback will be passed along to the proper department."

I can't believe they are not dropping him immediately. I will definitely be boycotting Nike from now on until they drop their contract with Vick.

Posted by: Shirley L. Thomas | July 18, 2007 03:09 PM

This is incredible news. Hopefully a high profile case like this will push the issue of illegal dog fighting to the forefront and gain some publicity for PETA as well! Michael Vick is one incredibly sick and twisted individual...add money and power to the situation and call it a monster.

Posted by: J.C. | July 18, 2007 03:15 PM

How about before you get all hell bent on boycotting these places you give them a chance to ditch Vick if he is found guilty? Just a thought...

Posted by: egami | July 18, 2007 03:22 PM

So with Vick out, the Falcons are pretty much done for the season. Joey Harrington is horrible and there's no way they can recover. Had they kept Matt Schaub they would have had a chance. Now they'll have to rely on an actual running game because this year their QB isn't doing all the rushing.

Oh, and dog fighting is bad blah blah blah.

Posted by: cheryl | July 18, 2007 03:25 PM

Cindy's comments are about the most ridiculous I've seen- somehow "blaming" Peta for this.

First of all, Cindy dear, there was NO federal law to deal with this until recently (did you write to YOUR legislators and support that? Peta encouraged us all to)

Second, the STATE authorities are responsible for prosecuting these crimes in their area. However, many state laws are lax when it comes to dog fighting, not to mention problems with local prosecutors like Poindexter in Virginia who look the other way, cover it it up, hamper investigations, or worse! (In some states, law enforcement and court authorities have been personally involved in dog fighting, and they still are!)

It is only because LAWS are being improved and created that these people can be busted.

And because the public is finally demanding that dog fighting stop.

Blame your fellow Americans who ignored the dog fighting issue in the past.

Posted by: kelly | July 18, 2007 03:33 PM

Todd you are the lam moron, apparently you didn’t have any friends growing up and probably not many now. This has nothing to do with being a vegetarian but the cruelty of these dogs. How can you be against animal fighting but not against the person responsibly for the fights? If someone killed a member of your family, then you’re against murder but the person who committed the crime should not be punished. Are you such an idiot thinking that’s it’s all about banning him from the NFL. There’s a saying: You can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl. In his case; you can take the boy out of the ghetto but you can’t take the ghetto out of Michael Vick. He is a disgrace to men and you’re placing yourself right down there with him. He and all that were involved deserve the highest punishment by the courts and then some. Pit bulls are loving animals, its people like Michael Vick and many others that have given this breed a bad name. I hope PETA, the media and other organizations raise their voices to put a stop to the inhumane and cruelty of fighting pit bulls or any animals.

Posted by: Kathy | July 18, 2007 03:43 PM

I agree with Shirley Thomas, I also just emailed Nike and let them know that I would be boycotting their products. In fact, I just sent back a pair of shoes I purchased last week. All we can do is put the pressure on Nike and maybe they will respond. PLEASE EVERYONE write Nike and let them know they need to dump this lowlife. Nike is Michael Vicks biggest sponsor and they need to know how enraged we all are by this!!

Posted by: Maritza | July 18, 2007 03:43 PM

I am curious what evidence PETA has of the following in your write up? "The professional sports world is plagued with players who have been accused, charged, or convicted of cruelty to animals, abusing pit bulls, and dog fighting..." I haven't heard of too many instances, however given Clinton Portis comments I wonder how pervasive this problem is. I wonder how one intervenes in this particular culture (dog fighting)? This may be an opportunity for a public discussion to cease this activity. Let's not convict him until if he actually is convicted-- but if he is I hope he receives extensive jail time.

Posted by: Ron | July 18, 2007 03:46 PM

Michael Vick and the other freaks that will be charged in this case are obviously psychopaths and should be tortured in the exact same manner those poor dogs were.

Posted by: vickhater | July 18, 2007 03:49 PM

..a follow up comment to my e mail. It would be helpful if you obtain and post his business endorsement e mail addresses at the bottom of the article (for easy access by users). I do believe that although not convicted yet of these crimes, that there is enough evidence that people should contact his sponsors and express their disapproval.

Posted by: Ron | July 18, 2007 03:50 PM

I believe that Michael Vick should be accorded his due process rights as with any other person. It is unfair for all of you to crucify this man before he has been convicted. Anyway, those of you who claim to be boycotting Nike and other companies Michael Vick endorses are full of crap, I doubt you even buy their products, therefore your "boycott" doesn't mean anything to anyone except that it allows you to feel smug in your narrow minded and reactionary ways.

Posted by: Miguel Thailand | July 18, 2007 03:53 PM

I am disgusted beyond words. This seems to be a common behaviors from the macho players such as the NFL organizations. Somehow, by torturing the defendless animals give them powers to their beasthood (which they routinely mistaken to be manhood). Another similar case is some player whose name I do not recall chained his dog up at the attic for months at a time without feeding it. Finally, the neighbor reported him. But nothing was done to the crime. I am glad that the congressman from California has written to the Falcon organization to ask them to take immediate actions. We have dogs whom I would personally die for to protect, I do not know why these types of behaviors are ok to our society today.

Posted by: Anne Lam | July 18, 2007 03:54 PM

This incident is absolutely disgusting! As a leader and a role model to not only our youth but many football fans an example needs to be made of Vick. A message needs to be sent out that you cannot get away with these repulsive acts no matter how famous you are. I hope PETA and other animal rights groups are able to apply enough pressure to make this message heard. Tell me where to sign, donate, show up, write to, etc and I'll do it. There is power in numbers!

Posted by: Ashley | July 18, 2007 04:00 PM

Please lead the charge against this horrible man! I am not a vegan or anything but as a dog lover, I was appalled to read about what he was doing in Virginia. Any psychologist will tell you that most dangerous criminals began their brutal way of life by practicing their techniques on pets. this is a sickening situation & he deserves to be punished severly for it. I have written Nike & would very much like to know who his other sponsors are. Regardless of whether he is convicted, these dogs suffered on his property. I do not believe there are too many people who think he is innocent of what was going on. he should have to pay the consequences!

Posted by: Melody | July 18, 2007 04:01 PM

If the Falcons treated Michael Vick the way he treated these dogs, he would be in for a big surprise the first time he lost a game.

The NFL can ban this sociopath. So, if you only send one email, make it to the NFL. The Falcons and the prosecuters should hear from us too. Once he is banned, contact arena football too!

Conservatives and football fans are upset too. Glenn Beck spent a lot of time today on his radio show expressing outrage and comparing Vick to a serial killer. I think his TV show will hit this tonight.

Let's hope this sicko gets put away and his young fans don't get started in this kind of criminally insane behavior.

indictment is not a conviction. in the eyes of the law a dog is essentially property, so while i think owners have an obligation to care for animals under their care, i think the mob mentality people are forming needs to settle down a bit. i also don't see how attacking the man's livelihood accomplishes much of anything. if convicted he'll do his time, but talk about seizing his assets is a bit much for me.

How can a respectable person be associated with people like V and his cousin. How far is Vick from being a serial killer.

A fish rots from the head down. Arthur Blank is the owner of the Alanta Falcons (Felons?) He has the authority but not the will to pull Vick's contract. His communications director can be contacted via Kim Shreckengost of AMB Group 404-367-2140, or cell: 770-335-3039

This is the sort of story that hangs on for a summer, especially since most American's can't abide cruelty to dogs regardless of their feelings toward other animals. Look for lots of expert opinion and descriptive coverage on the subject in the news.

The story will do something to punish Vick and maybe the NFL but probably not much to stop dog fights. If you want to stop dog fights, you've got to stop ignorance. Good luck..

Posted by: Mark | July 18, 2007 08:52 PM

I live in Atlanta and I don't care about "innocent until proven guilty". It is a fact that animals were brutally killed on his property. If his sponsors want to support him through the trial, that's their business. It's a free country. But, I'm sure not going to support businesses that support him! My money might not mean a hill of beans to a big company, but if we who are appauled stick together and boycott, it will make an impact. Even if I don't write each one to tell them of my intentions, they'll get the message when they feel it in their pockets.

Posted by: JM | July 18, 2007 08:59 PM

Vick should have done his dog fighting in Wyoming where it is not considered a felony to fight dogs. If he got caught there he would definitely not do any jail time or miss any of the NFL season. Not that I care if he misses any time, he's a crappy fantasy football player.

Posted by: David | July 18, 2007 09:03 PM

I am disturbed by the Vick situation. However, I am more disturbed by the hysterical and nasty people on this blog calling for 1) Vick to be killed by a wild dog,2)firing him from his job, 3) making all of his endorsements abandon him and 4) calling for a "publicity" campagin to make sure that he is convicted.

Nothing has been proven yet and despite this, most on the blog are talking like an angry mob that doesen't care a bit about the law.

What he is being acused of is disgusting and illegal. But if we lived in a society where the largest mob ruled, without any regard for the law or due process, that would be a society that would eliminate groups like PETA as a first priority. Do you want to live in that world?

Posted by: Anonymous | July 18, 2007 09:11 PM

I am so tired of hearing "Innocent until proven guilty." I don't know a single person who has honestly thought someone who was being charged for something innocent from the get go. I highly doubt Vick is 100% innocent. Fact is, it was on his property and surprise surprise he had a kennel where he sold pit bulls. It just doesn't add up. Giving him the benefit of a doubt for a mere moment, maybe he wasn't going to these fights or paying for them but I bet he knew they were going on. Now I am done giving him the benefit of a doubt. Mike Vick is one of the most disgusting people on the planet. He deserves one of the most inhumane punishments possible even though I know that won't happen. The way some of those innocent animals died just blows my mind. People like him are what gives "Pit Bulls" a bad rep. I remember hearing months ago Clinton Portis stating a message siding with Vick stating (Don't quote me word for word) "Dogs are property and people are free to do with them as they wish." Well, sorry Portis and some of America, no matter if you like it or not animals are becoming more and more like "people" in their owners eyes and I bet one day they will have rights too. I am sure Portis nor Vick would make children fight to the death. Why? Because it's wrong! Just like dogs. It's wrong! I am sure this pathetic excuse for a man will get off with a small fine if anything at all due to his wealth but he will always be guilty in my eyes and this is a chance to help people see how wrong this way of action is by anyone ESPECIALLY a public figure that youths look up to. This case should set a standard to other people what will happen if you treat animals in this inhumane and torturous way.

Posted by: Amber | July 18, 2007 09:13 PM

If enough people write to Michael Vick's sponsors and to the Falcons club, they will have to do something about it.

Keep pressuring them - don't just accept a "form" email response. If one person stops buying Nike or other products it may not mean much, but if thousands do so, it will definitely hurt these companies. Even if they only drop Vick's sponsorships for financial instead of humane reasons, it will still be a punishment for Vick.

And all of you "innocent until proven guilty" fools, shut the f--- up! Vick has been under investigation for a long time, and law enforcement and other officials have found the evidence on Vick's property.

Someone had a great idea--pressure the advertisers who sponsor the Falcons, too.

Delta, Stubhub.com, Verizon Wireless, The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, Russell Athletics (subsidiary of Fruit of the Loom), ATT.Com, Ford

All of you animal activists should pipe down. Michael Vick hasnt been found guilty of anything, and although the federal government doesnt make indictments on a whim, you should all keep your opinions to yourself, and don't make stupid judgments like anyone gives a shit what you have to say in the first place.

Posted by: George | July 18, 2007 11:15 PM

It makes me sick!!! To think he is still going to represent ATL is nasty! It's sad that they will probably do away with him because of all the emails and not for the fact that he is a disgusting human being is sad. He will get his in the end (no pun intended)Ha Ha

Posted by: kat | July 18, 2007 11:52 PM

The best comments I heard about Vick today was on cnnsi.com from two people who know him well. One said anonymously, of course, he is "not very bright". At my house we intrepret this to mean stupid. The other speaking on the same condition said he was selfish.

What a way to go thru life dumb and selfish.

Concerning some of the postings: Wanting "inhumane" treatment for Michael Vick is not in line with the way PETA wants to have the treatment of animals. Anger is an appropriate response to the mistreatment of animals. Becoming savage ourselves and quick to convict (when at this point we know only a fraction of the evidence) lowers us to levels where I'm not sure we want to be-- history is full of mob mentality such as the lynching of black men with little or not evidence. Let the legal process run its course, and protest with the NFL and his endorsement companies to put their business with him on hold. IF found guilty I hope he has a lot of time to think about his misdeeds in a 8x10 cell block.

Posted by: Ron | July 19, 2007 05:34 AM

at times young children are mauled an even killed by pit bulls. the genetic traits bred for are diluted out and passed down in this great breed. egregious,dispicable, deplorable acts like Vick and all ghetto low-lifes who take part in this evil game- harbour all the guilt and responsibility -they have the blood of all these innocent animals and children who have been mauled on their hands. Vicks air of invincibility and impunity will crash down on him and as he ignominiously ends his less then stellar football career , and rots in jail for a few years- may I remind him,having spent some time in corrections, how animal abusers fair just as poorly as child molesters behind bars- we reep what we sow; ps if NIKE or the Falcons support Vick they are beyond pathetic;

Yet here you are, on Peta's blog, posting your comments. You have no friends here George. Move on.

I am completely apolled that in the 21st Centry that we have someone of Vick's status who would participate in such vicious acts against animals. He should be suspended immediately or a call to boycott all Atlanta Falcon related games and memorabilia should be discarded.

Posted by: Janet | July 19, 2007 09:55 AM

Can we get a national boycott of Home Depot going strong and keep it going as long as the Falcons and Blank keep their lying heads in the sand? Money is the only thing that motivates these people. Why not get everyone to go to Lowe's, Ace Hardware, anywhere but Home Depot. We can bring them to their knees for their indifference.

Posted by: Jack | July 19, 2007 09:57 AM

Please boycott Home Depot and write them to let them know you are boycotting them until Arthur Blank fires MIchael Vick. There are other home improvement stores and tell them you will go there. This is the response I got from them, pathetic and lame, as if the public is not aware of the relationship of their co-owner to the Falcons:

Thank you for contacting The Home Depot Customer Care.

Thank you very much for your message. The Home Depot is not a party to
this matter as we are not affiliated with the Atlanta Falcons'
day-to-day operations. Please feel free to contact the Atlanta Falcons
organization with your feedback.

Sincerely,

Samina
Customer Care

I wrote back and told her there is a movement afoot to boycott all organizatins affiliated with Michael Vick and Arthur Blank, and that Mr. Blank has to decide if he wants abusive sadists to wreck the bottom line. Please contact Home Depot and let them know how you feel. Thanks.

I had nightmares after reading part of what these animals did or allowed to be done to the dogs.If they can destroy or get joy out of killing dogs they need to be taught a lesson. Vick should not be allowed to start or play until this is completely settled and he either goes to the Pen or is cleared. I will not spend a penny on tickets to see the Falcon's this year neither will the rest of my family and friends. If we allow this and turn away and think it goes away, what will be next for these overpaid pompous athletes who rely on us to support them and Nike etc to feed their luxurious tastes.

Boycott Vick until he is cleared.Or send him dog bisquits if he goes to the Pen.

Posted by: b lebowski | July 19, 2007 10:50 AM

Todd, You have a right to your opinion. It sounds as if your anger with the situation is being taken out on vegetarians. That is not what this is about. I eat meat, and I am sickened by what has gone on with MR. Vick. Any slaughter house or farming operation that treats livestock with this type of cruelty and revulsion would be shut down. I am from a farming family. All animals are respected and cared for not tortured, forced to maul one another then viciously killed. Though carnivores and vegetarians may have differing opinions on lots of things I think we all stand together when we say, This sort of thing is not acceptable in our country: we have a right to protest this especially concerning a person who's paycheck we help support Through sponsorships and NFL game viewing.

Posted by: Robin | July 19, 2007 11:31 AM

Mike vick is a worthless wast of skin. I for one plan on never watching another Falcons game as long as he is affiliated with the team. Furthermore,I will boycott any of the products he endorses. May he endure the same suffering he has inflicted on those animals

Posted by: Richard Battaglini | July 19, 2007 12:32 PM

If you have a Home Depot credit card take a pair of scissors cut it in two, put it in an envelope . Enclose a picture of Mr. Vick send it to Home Depots offices after awhile they will get the point.

GEORGE, (7-18-07)
You might be convinced that no one cares what we animal activists have to say, BUT you would be VERY, VERY surprised to know the enormous amount of positive changes we made that affects YOUR very own health and life for the better.
We are aware of, initiate, and succeed at more people-animal related issues than our govt. ever has, while they like to turn the other way if it is not in their best personal financial interest.
For one example, most pharmaceutical companies do inaccurate, archaic experiments on animals (cheaper) ONLY for the purpose of saying that their new meds are safely marketable, ie, $$$,$$$,$$$, while totally ignoring any resulting illnesses or fatalities. (Try to tell me I'm wrong about Merck)

However, animals activists know that modern, accurate methods of testing have been invented, and only a few pharmaceutical companies have recently started using them due to the persistent urging of animal activists.

Meanwhile, the govt. makes "sweetheart" deals with the other pharm. companies, therefore, the govt. doesn't put any pressure on them to incorporate the new, modern, accurate methods of testing.

No, you won't hear much about the good animal activists are capable of accomplishing (unless you read the PETA website), and certainly the govt. will never acknowledge it.

So the choice is up to you: get yourself informed about animal activists OR let the govt. and big business walk all over you.

Posted by: Ariel | July 19, 2007 02:04 PM

This sick bastard should be put to jail for life. Better yet, seize his assets and use them to help animal rescue organizations and all those animals that survived this ordeal. I really hope he will get his karma.
I would personally advising my family, friends, and co-workers to stop using all the products that use him as the spokeperson.

Posted by: Chika | July 19, 2007 02:55 PM

the punk foo is going down and thats all that matters...hopefully the dogs that are still alive will find homes..

and some of you need to lighten up about PETA not being aggressive

Posted by: Leonore | July 19, 2007 03:48 PM

I just phoned Nike and the NFL. I informed them that when Mr. Vick is found guilty, regardless of the penalty, I WILL not Buy anything NIKE and will burn all items I own currently. The NFL and others that support someone who is accused of a heinous dog fighting crime should hear from all people who support animals with their current billions on animal products to date and make it clear that none of their money will support this despicable person - Mr. Vick.

Posted by: Christina | July 19, 2007 04:44 PM

please someone send us a good phone#/ email address is bouncing back too for the Atlanta Falcons.
Thanks,

P.S. This story is sad. I hope the big wigs in corporate Falcons will do the right thing and get that loser off of the team. Who cares if they lose a season? We are killing defenseless animals people!!

I want PETA, HSUS, ASPCA and others to organize protests at every Falcon game. It's evident that the league is more concerned about money than animal abuse.

I fail to be able to comprehend how any human being can be entertained by the torture and suffering of innocent animals or other creatures....If Michael Vick is convicted of these disgusting violent crimes he should be thrown in Jail long enough that his god given talents would be wasted behind bars...give his fortune to animal rights groups and ......let him out into society when he's 50 to ponder how intelligent he is........

I really hope PETA can make people aware of this and aid in the punishment of Vick. He is a horrible person and it makes me sick to think of what those dogs went through. I try to save as many animals as possible and find them homes and to think that someone can actually hurt an innocent animal. This crime has gone unpunished for far too long. Please write to his sponsors and protest them if they decide to keep Vick as a spokesmodel.

Just throwing in a little tidbit about Vick endorsing Nike. Nike is manufactured in China who, as we know, is responsible for the thousands of pet deaths. So Nike has been on my long list of boycotts already and will continue to be since I am boycotting everything from China permanently because of the pet deaths...even though fortunately my babies were not affected.
The Vick/Nike relationship and the Chinese animal killers...hmmm...all have something in common.

Posted by: Ariel | July 20, 2007 09:52 AM

Michael Vick hasnt begun trial and nor has he been found guilty of anything, why should mike vick get fired? If you are so againt the unethical treatment of animals and people, dont drive cars, stop wearing clothes and get off this internet. I SUPPORT AND LOVE MIKE VICK. Go Ookie Go Falcons. Even if Michael VIck did do this shit i HOPE HE GETS OFF

Posted by: Bob Allen | July 20, 2007 11:16 AM

I'm surprised that the NFL and Falcons are publicly "supporting' Vick. That's disturbing. Horn's comments a little while ago that he and his teammates will support Vick is shocking. It does seem they do not understand the horrific badness of dogfighting. People with that little moral fiber and lack of compation or concern for a living creature are twisted and plain wrong.

Posted by: Dana | July 20, 2007 01:26 PM

The only fitting punishment for this waste of sperm would be to put his gangsta, trash with cash ass in a locked room and let the dogs loose. Now that I would pay to see.

Maybe then he would understand the pain and suffering he inflicted on the animals. I agree that every single asset he owns be confiscated and divided up among animal charities. It's time we take a stand as a society and end the crap that trash like Vick, Paris Hilton, etc. are getting away with. We all know good and well that his wealth and status as an "athlete" will allow him to walk. Hopefully some psycho will be there to greet him as he leaves the courtroom.

Until this story broke I was a huge fan and defender of Michael Vick.

What i just wrote to Nike:

"Due to your implicit support of Michael Vick, my family and i will never again purchase a Nike product. Three of Vick friends have, under oath, connected Vick to dogfighting, including Purnell Peace, who, “after consulting with Vick,” electrocuted a female pit bull. This alone is grounds for you to terminate your relationship with Vick. You pay Mr. Vick. Mr. Vick's money has indirectly been used to kill defenseless animals. Your only response is half-hearted, weak-kneed pap about due process. That is indefensible and morally disgusting.

Worst wishes to whoever reads this and everyone else connected to Nike,
Eric Werner"

Irrational and spiteful - yes.
Justified - absolutely.

Vick is not just 'alleged' to have taken part in dogfighting. Multiple persons have gone on the record, opening themselves up to perjury, tying him to dogfighting. At times like this I hope there is a hell.

Posted by: Eric | July 20, 2007 02:26 PM

Positive news:

"Coca-Cola (via its sports drink PowerAde) and Kraft Foods also have allowed endorsement deals with Vick to lapse." and "Hasbro also has not had any business dealings with Vick since its relationship with the player expired two years ago."

Posted by: Eric | July 20, 2007 02:53 PM

Don't forget one of Vick's teammates, Babineaux. He was arrested for killing his girlfriend's dog by blunt trauma-a bat to the head?
It sounds like the Falcons are full trash. Keep putting the pressure on Blank and his bunch of THUGS. It's time that the trash in professional sports is stopped. DON'T patronize the NFL. Stay away and don't patronize the sponsors of these thugs and criminals.

This just makes me sick...if anyone watched the coverage on Nancy Grace CNN...they would know these poor dogs were hosed down and electrocuted if they did not perform, they were hanged, they were body slammed, and put on threadmills with a cat hanging at the end...also barbaric items such as the rape stand look straight out of the middle ages...the footage and info made me so furious and hurt my heart for these animals who come to us so loyal and innocent and made to be killing machines...the cruelty was so massive that only a sociopath could accept this...the people who participate are a danger to society as well. This is a felony in 48 states, but a $250,000 fine means nothing...little jail time...if Michael Vick and others are guilty, they should be punished with prison time and never able to have animals again. He should lose his 130 million dollar contract...I have no pity for him if guilty...and we must do more to find and convict the people invested and participating in dog fighting, or any other animal fighting or abuse. We must be vigilant because it is more prevalent than many know...

Posted by: cinder | July 21, 2007 06:00 AM

Anyone with a soul is disgusted and sickened by the crimes of Michael "Ookie" Vick and the rest of his thug co-conspirators in the torture and murder of animals. I have spoken to some contacts at the Falcons organization this week and they have been working very hard with the NFL and the NFL Players Association on the actions that WILL be taken. There should be an announcement before Vick even goes to court next week and he will be suspended (or he may even ‘voluntarily’ resign) until the government throws his butt in prison.

These negotiations have been in progress long before PETA became involved, and are not the type of knee-jerk reactions that some PETA members are so experienced with. Other than Michael Vick, the people involved in making these decisions are ethically, legally, and morally responsible to protect many people and interests who will be impacted by what is about to happen. Most rational people would understand the true meaning of ethical behavior and I hope those of you who are showing your ignorance will buy a dictionary and see if your brain can comprehend the definition.

I appreciate that everyone has the right to free speech and to have a peaceful protest. I have also shared my concerns with the Falcons front office as well as the NFL, but I did not threaten anyone or use the type of abusive language some of you people are using in your comments. If you think anyone was swayed by your harassment then you are sadly mistaken.

Those of you who are spewing hatred against everyone else except Vick and his gang of thugs have made a big mistake. Goodell, Blank and the CEOs of Vick’s REAL endorsers are not responsible to PETA and they should not have been approached with anything but respect if you expected they were going to listen to your opinions. You may find that your extremist behavior is going to backfire on PETA this time. You should have spent some time to do a little research on who you were including in your witch hunt. There is nothing ethical about attacking entire companies, which has impacted their employees, shareholders and customers - who by the way have the freedom to buy whatever we choose whether you 'like' it or not. There is also no excuse for including the retail stores in your boycott list who carry the products of MANY companies, not just NIKE.

I'm not going to take the time to explain how you can find out who the NFL, their sponsors and partners, and the other companies you decided to attack have contributed their time and money to support, which includes PETA and hundreds of other organizations. PETA is a non-profit who needs the generous support and money of these companies and their employees to support your mission - and you are not going to get these donations by trying to cause harm to innocent people. Did any of you realize that the NFL and at 'least' one of their major partners currently contribute to PETA, as well as many other animal rights organizations who are not exhibiting this kind of vicious behavior? There are several other companies on your hit list whose employees and shareholders put their hard-earned money in YOUR pocketbooks. You folks are slitting your own throats by blaming hundreds of thousands of people who are just as outraged with Michael Vick as you are.

Since we are all entitled to free speech, there are many people working to stop our companies from donating money to PETA because your unethical treatment of the employees (and families) is not appreciated. We are taking action to remove PETA off all of the company lists, and the lists of the company sponsors and partners, of charitable organizations. You can kiss the money goodbye, and most of these companies match their employees donations - so double whammy. If anyone working for the companies wants to donate money to PETA, they are free to send it directly to PETA. We are not going to fund an organization who is trying to destroy our reputations and take money out of our pocket.

You have also turned many other people that don’t even work for these companies against you whose retirement funds have investments in these companies. If any of you people are the ones taking part in this attack on our economy have retirement accounts, take a look at the holdings in your IRAs, 401Ks, and mutual funds. If you’re a smart investor you will probably find you are making money from the profits of these companies. I wish you much luck in finding an investment that doesn’t include stocks from the Vick scandal - as well as all of the other companies some of the PETA members are so ethically condemning in your other endeavors.

There are a lot of people out here who are trying to be reasonable with your comments, and none of my comments are directed at you. The rest of you who are making a list of companies you think you are going to drag into this, you have gone too far this time. You’re wasting a lot of time that would be better spent sweeping the floor at your local animal shelter or whatever you claim to do to ‘help’ animals.

It is no surprise that some PETA members are using your typical bully "power" and once again, you have done nothing but confirm what a vicious bunch of people are members of your organization. Some of you think these big corporations are too afraid to stand up to you. PETA members who are using slander - you may think you were attacking big companies, but you had no idea how many hundreds of thousands of individuals from around the world you have foolishly labeled as being part of this animal abuse. Each of us, individually, will work with our companies to remove PETA from our lists of the charitable organizations we are allowed to pick from each year. You will not get another penny from our companies. There are plenty of other deserving organizations who are working for animal rights that do not use violence and harassment as the way they conduct themselves.

I hope this is what you were trying to accomplish because it worked! Maybe the next time all of you terrorists think about who you are including in your attacks, you will first try to figure out who you are really up against. Go after the people who committed the crime, and send ethical letters, email and phone calls to the INDIVIDUALS who sign the criminal's paycheck.

And please...don't even think PETA can take any credit for what is about to be announced regarding Michael Vick. That 'dog' don't hunt!

I just learned that the negotiation of Vick’s suspension – or his ‘voluntary’ leave of absence – I am not sure of the exact wording yet – is being finalized as I post this message and as soon as the lawyers have everyone sign the agreement a press release will be issued. Try to wait until the ink dries before you waste your time traveling to Atlanta for your peaceful protest. Those PETA t-shirts should really start selling like gangbusters now – order a bunch more and line your cat boxes with them.

If he ‘voluntarily’ takes a leave of absence, he may or may not receive his compensation until he is convicted – that is not part of the NFLPA contract and Mr. Blank is the one who will make that decision. Mr. Blank is required to base that decision on many factors which have A LOT of serious implications, none of which have anything to do with animal murderers. Try to accept the fact that Vick will not be on the field, regardless of whether or not he is receiving his paycheck. You can accept it or start a new campaign – nobody really cares what you accept at this point. The factors involved in the decision are much too complicated for you to understand; and you would not care anyway because this involves other people, like children, charity organizations, contractual commitments, the community and a host of important things that most PETA members think are trivial when compared to your campaign to drag innocent people into your ‘ethical’ treatment of animals campaigns.

If he is suspended, it will be with pay because that is included in EVERY NFL player’s formal contract. Michael Vick is not getting any special treatment and the NFL and Falcons organization are legally bound to adhere to the terms of the contract – which is governed by the NFLPA and not the NFL or the Falcons. After he is convicted, he will no longer be on the payroll. There is nothing Mr. Blank or Mr. Goodell can do to change the terms of the contract so get over it. Or you can start another campaign against the NFLPA – you will need to hire a team of lawyers to duke it out with the lawyers who work for the NFLPA. That would be an interesting battle because they don’t have anything to do all day either - except practice law. Those dudes will eat your vegetarian lunch before you can spell all of their names.

Now leave the rest of these people alone – WE HAVE REAL WORK TO DO!

I hope you have an ethical day and try to find a little time to help some animals.

I am a diehard Falcon fan for years, 28 to be exact. Vick is a hero to me, prior to learning of these heinous crimes against innocent beings. I just couldn't imagine someone doing this. It really was not the actual dog fighting that hurt, it was the inhuman way they put them to there death, no human gets treated like this unless they have committed a crime due such punishment.

Posted by: James Mayo | July 21, 2007 10:38 AM

PETA NEEDS TO ROT IN HELL. HOW YOU GOING TO PROTEST CRUELTY TO ANIMALS THEN HAVE A MISERABLE LOOKING DOG AT YOUR PROTEST THAT HAS A DAMN PAPER GROCERY BAG AS A SHIRT ON.

honestly PETA, rot in hell the hypocrisy that you idiots preach is sickening. Last i checked humans are animals, as they are part of the animal kingdom, so why justify cruelty with cruelty. LAW STATES INNOCENT TILL PROVEN GUILTY. Last i checked no guilt has been proven. SO BACK OFF and go take care of that miserable dog you had at your protest.

Please let me know if there will be any protests in south Florida (Near Palm Beach County) I would love to attend!!

AN OPEN COMMENT TO ALL THE ANTI-ANIMAL ACTIVISTS:

BELIEVE US, we do NOT care what you think of us, or what you say to us, or any of your attempts at snide remarks. Nothing changes our focus because your impression of us is not our issue or concern.

Your negative opinions do NOT affect us and means absoulutely NOTHING to us because we are solely focused on the animals...with the affects and effects upon the human/animal/environmental/societal relationship.

We understand that you have limited views and seem incapable of sharing compassion and empathy...and it seems that you couldn't care less about ALL living beings, our society, and our environment.

We know that you don't take the time to thoroughly educate yourselves about animal advocacy, which would explain all the reasons behind it, all that it encompasses.

I have so much to say about this and as i type excuse the errors because i amsoooo pissed off. Michael Vick had better not show his face if i were him i would stay under cover... someone is going to hurt this man and he deserves a slow death. Our soldiers faught for or freedom and were killed, we had prisoners taken with their heads sawed off and they did nothing but fight for us. We have this sociopath who by the way you falsons fans is really not that consistant with his throw arm as recently said, we have him being idolized. I have 6 beautiful kitties all of which i rescued..i grew up with dogs all my life, whenever i feel bad my pets come and comfort me ...they have that 6th sense....such unconditional love. God put these animals on earth for us... for us to take care of as He takes care of and feeds the smallest creature on earth...animals are worth gods creation...and animals like Michael Vick are going to be worth his damnation.

Posted by: Mari Ana Biossat | July 22, 2007 11:50 AM

I say fire him.
I also say....what is up with Emmit Smith defending him? I was almost as repulsed by that as I was with Vick.
And Charles, I find it weird that you referred to him as "Mr." in your comment. I thought that was reserved for people you respected.
This guy deserves no respect.

Michael Vick is the epitome of evil.I will forever associate his face and name with unspeakable acts of violence and animal suffering.. surely there will be a special place in hell for the likes of him..you cannot cause suffering and pain of this extent and not expect to pay, either in this life or the next.. I just hope to be able to see him pay in this one..

MONEY=POWER
GOOD LUCK!

Posted by: :) | July 23, 2007 02:57 AM

Why are you convicting him NOW, when he has ONLY been accused. Why should his sponsors drop him when he has only been accused that does not seem fair. I agree if he was a Percipient he should be under the jail. Why can’t you wait for the Trial. We don’t know if it is True or NOT. Does anyone remember the Duke lacrosse case

Posted by: Clyde | July 24, 2007 07:59 AM

Money might equal power....but wouldn't you want to use your power towards something positive in society, and not something senseless and cruel? Hurting things should never be fun...I really hope that Michael Vick finds a new appreciation for life and learns to spend his free time and money doing something positive for society. You have been given a gift of being able to play in the NFL. Come on.......GIVE BACK.

Does anyone know where the actual indictment can be found? Thanks

Posted by: Scott Hill | July 24, 2007 04:14 PM

Wow! Listen to the anger in your comments. How can one say they stand for life of an animal or a human? I get angry about alot of things but my anger doesn't blur my vision.

Posted by: Cori | July 24, 2007 07:47 PM

Everybody is passing judgement. Judge him not until it comes out. Just shut-the-hell-up!! So what, your kids hate him now..Life goes on. He's still the best at whatever he does. Your comments and prejudging cant change that!!!(HA HA) My kid still loves him and he has 2 dogs. Why?? Because I taught my kid innocent until proven guilty...Maybe YALL parents should have taught YALL the same!!! If he is innocent I will love and respect him for the game not for his mistakes...that's GOD'S job!!!All YALL Kiss ASS!!!!

What goes around...comes around...This should be without a doubt an automatic dimissal by the Falcon and his Sponsors. Unfortunately he is not the only person/group coordinating these types of underground events. However we should make an Example of him. Mr. Vick and his entourage are clearly disturbed people if all evidence point to them for even having such a thought of harming anything that is living. The Universe works in mysterious ways and has been brought to our attention and we should now act on it.

Posted by: Tas | July 25, 2007 11:49 AM

FIRST OF ALL... How is it that you PEOPLE can scrutinize this man in the media without knowing the full story? You animal-lovers give higher regards to the life of a dog than the life of a human being who HAS NOT been convicted of anything. Since Mike plays ball in Atlanta, it would be very difficult for a man that makes $6 mill a year without batting his eyes to go from Georgia to Virginia to buy some stupid dogs. He hasn't been convicted of anything and anybody can be ACCUSED of something. For PETA to protest in front of the training camp and call for his suspension is RIDICULOUS. Let's talk about Lindsay Lohan and her drunk driving for a minute. She gets to keep her movie contracts despite being a fall down drunk but Mike Vick gets ACCUSED of something and he has to lose everything. I don't care how much America loves animals. Americans should love people more than a creature that can provide nothing for society other than poop for other people to step in, allergy triggering dog hair, and a few laughs during a family moment. Michael Vick is a person and deserves due process like anybody else.

i think everyone involved in this mike vic thing are hypocrites. if you care so much about the safety of our animals then dont eat that tastey hamburger from mc donalds. animals go through alot of torture for you to eat them. so all of you pet owners that eat meat.... wake the hell up. the man shouldnt lose his livelyhood over this but he should be prosecuted and sit out for a season. thanks.

Michael Vick needs to do community service for at least 5 years taking care of animals and their excrement. He needs to be supervised as he is morally bankrupt and depraved.

Posted by: Linda Stith | July 26, 2007 08:27 AM

As an owner of two Belgian sheepdogs and a lover of all animals, I urge you to do the right thing and terminate the contract of Michael Vick. As an evolutionary psychologist and behavioral scientist, I can vouch to the fact that Vick would most undoubtedly score off the chart on psychometric tests of psychopathy. Be honorable and get rid of this monster.

I am so sick is of the MIke Vick Bashing.. None of us were there so we do not know for a shadow of a doubt if he was involved.. Let the courts handle this since you do not know the entire story. If he is guilty he will be punished. But it seems like most people have already tried and convicted him. Remember what happend with Koby and at the Duke Lacrosse. We need to stop judging before we know the entire story. I am sure everyone would wnat the same. But I guess in America you are guilty until proven innocent. PETA always jumps on bang wagons when its a celebrity. But its funny how people wanted Paris Hilton free and she was guilty.

Posted by: Marcus | July 27, 2007 07:22 PM

I CAN NOW HONESTLY TELL YOU HOW MEAN AND CRUEL WE HUMANS REALLY ARE. THESE ARE TRUELY DISPICABLE ACTS OF ABUSE AND TORTURE BY VICK AND HIS GROUPIES. VICK DEFINITELY HAS MENTAL PROBLEMS AND I HOPE HE DOES EVERY BIT OF THE MAX SIX YEAR SENTENCE. THIS IDIOT IS A TRUE SCUMBAG AND IF I SEE TO IT HE WILL BE BEATEN EVERY SINGLE DAY HE SPENDS IN PRISON. EVERYONE WILL SOON FIND OUT HOW MUCH WE AMERICANS LOVE OUR DOGS. WE WILL MAKE AN EXAMPLE OF VICK AND SEND SHOCKWAVES TO THE REST OF THOSE PERFORMING THE SAME DISGUSTING ACTS AGAINST OUR BEST FRIENDS (DOGS).

I dont know what is wrong with you ppl but in all commonsense pits have different characteristics that lower end breed with the lock jaw and square head was breed years ago purposely for killing. You don't tamper with nature and think results wont come about. Even pits turn on their owners and so do dovermans but I don't hear you talking about thsoe animals when someone has a sign in their yard saying beware... b/c they have trained their dog to attack anyone or anything that enters their "priavte domain". face it we let those stupid taco bell rats bit ppl and poodles they can vicious as well. But why is Vick so important they're are hundreds of cases of dog fighting and trust me they didn't need an investigation.lol this sucks I hope no chrsitians are on any of thses message boards lord forebid you place the creatures and things of this world before man. Put all that same energy into the education of our kids... Protest these actors vick better serve only a few days like paris

Knowing this will not hit your posts. Has anyone even thought about due process. Innocent till proven guilty? As a true Falcon Fan, I have many animals at the house I wish no harm to or any other animal. But is it possable he is not guilty? Or are we just going to hang him now?

Posted by: NeVeRMoRe | July 29, 2007 01:27 PM

Just to put this out there:

On iTunes, Michael Vick is featured with an "athlete inspirations" playlist that he created and made comments about each song on.

His 13th Selection: Air it Out by Jadakiss... What did he say about it?

[I Listen to this] "just when I'm hangin' in the backyard with my pitbulls."

maybe he should change it to "just when I'm hangin' pitbulls" just a thought, if you don't beleive me, look up nike sport music on itunes

Posted by: Charley | July 29, 2007 07:14 PM

Yes, if he is guilty of the crime then he deserves to be punish. But look all around us, we allow humans to get in a ring and do the same thing and we call it EXTREME FIGHTING, so who is going after those who are sponsoring these types of events? I'm sure some large corporation is making tons of money in the so-call sport.

Let's be real and stop the hypocrisy. Everyone deserves a second chance!!!!!

Posted by: Jesse | July 29, 2007 10:25 PM

As a Pitbull owner, hearing what happened to these"unworthy dogs" broke my heart. These are loyal and loving dogs (despite bad publicity). It's people like Vick that give these dogs a bad reputation. I think Vick should be terminated from the NFL, fined and jailed for what he's (alledgedly) done. This is s cold hearted person who needs to be taught a lesson.

Posted by: Barbara Lempicki | July 30, 2007 11:29 AM

PETA stands to gain millions by capitalizing on Michael Vick case and his name. I want to know where was PETA in the following casing below? They just need a high profile person to get their message out and Michael Vick is that person. Where was the letter to Roger Goodell and Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams after numerous Pac Man Jones fiascos in Atlanta, Nashville and the most serious fiasco in Las Vegas, in which three people were shot and wounded including one who was left paralyzed from the waist down.

Where were Al Sharpton, Russell Simmons, PETA and the Humane Society’s letter when Qyntel Woods made headlines in 2004 after he was arrested for animal cruelty relating to his pet dogs? He pled guilty to first-degree animal abuse for staging dog fighting at his house. Where were their letters when Jonathan Babineaux, who currently plays defensive tackle for the Atlanta Falcons, was arrested on charges of felony animal cruelty to his girlfriend's dog, Kilo in 2007? It has been determined that the dog died of blunt force trauma to the head which leaves some inconsistencies in Babineaux's explanation of the events as an accident. But PETA’s not at the Falcons training camp to protest against Jonathan Babineaux, they’re there to protest against Mike Vick. You never wrote a letter to Jonathan’s sponsors, oops, I forgot, Jonathan is not a high profile athlete and neither was Woods which meant PETA and the Humane Society had nothing to gain from going after these guys. How self righteous can you get!

Who Cares?????????

This whole Michael Vick thing has been blown up waaaaay to much. There are far worse things going on in the world than this foolishness. Yea his involvement in this still baffles me... but I think that if this was some random hick living in the backwoods of VA... no one would have cared and it would have been swept under the rug after a week.

There was a case in Macon,GA where a teen burned two dogs to death. The teen only got 60 days in a detention center. Where was PETA? its al about the money it seems like. its cases like the one in Macon that need the focus of PETA...

Just to clarify for those who said to boycott Home Depot - there hasn't been a connection between Home Depot and the Falcons for over 7 yrs. The people started HD and are connected to the Falcons left HD back in 2000

Since PETA seems to be so upset and concerned about the so called treatment and abuse of pit bulls by Vick and OTHERS, is PETA going to offer the remaining pit bulls for pets to whoever might want them since they will be euthanized if no one wants them. Here is an idea, WHEN peta protest again bring the remaining pit bulls that are at the humane society to the protest since you love animals so much.

Posted by: delores | August 1, 2007 11:43 PM

Me, as a incredible animal lover feel that michael vick should be put to death for his actions against those innocent dogs.how could someone do such a thing like that? it is beyond belief and makes me cry. he is the scum of the earth and should most definately get the death penalty.

Posted by: Lisa aaron | August 10, 2007 02:07 AM

Are you people serious? It seems everyone cares more about animals than they do people, which says alot about this society. Let those who are without sin cast the first stone, I am quite sure that some of you have done things that you would not want to be made public. I believe a person is innocent until proven guilty, but as we all know a person is guilty until proven innocent. Lets talk about the numerous dogs who are killed looking for bombs or dogs who are kiled and maimed for medical research. How many people who have left negative comments have furs or eat meat. Furthermore where anyone of you there? Did you see him? Everyone always want to believe the worst, why not give him the benefit of the doubt.

I love sports and dont need them to be ruined and darkened with garbage like this. Vic and whomever was involved have tainted more of what is left that is good in the world. what an incredibly selfish act.
I don't need my kid seeing him out on the field knowing full well what he was involved in. And I dont want to hear the commentators on monday night football ever say his name again.
He needs to be behind bars for what he did.

Michael Vick needs to go into the same catagory as O.J. Simpson. Throw him out of football forever. Here's a man who has everything he ever dreamed of...more money than he can spend in 10 life times and fighting dogs is his hobby??? It's monsterous.Vick and his friends have no soul. Anyone who is connected to Vick and took part in this... should be punished also. Please post the sponsors names so everyone can boycott them.

Posted by: Britt | August 20, 2007 08:43 PM

I truly hope this disgusting individual meets a most horrible fate. I pray that he suffers physically, and financially. I doubt anyone like this would suffer mentally...sounds like another O.J. Simpson. To think he can plead guilty for a lessor sentence is not tolerable. This disgusting slime would get out of jail and probably repeat his heinous acts. He has no respect for life. He should be stoned and tortured. Nothing can bring back those dogs he tortured, and he does not deserve to see another day, and to share a breath of air, this thing referred to as a man should get a death sentence!

Posted by: Marjorie Fagan | August 21, 2007 02:19 AM

I think Michael Vic should get the maximum conviction and should never be allowed to play football again The statement about drunk driving and killing someone has nothing to do with what he did Yes it's wrong to drink and drive and end up killing someone however although it's a death it is accidental and not deliberate what vic did is unforgivable and deserves severe punishment lock him up and throw away the key

Posted by: julie murphy | August 21, 2007 08:07 AM

Posted by: julie | August 21, 2007 08:47 AM

to chris who left a comment on july 18 about us white people the fact that michael vick and his accomplices are black has nothing to do with this or are you saying that it's alright for black people to do as they wish? your ancesters were torutured so that gives you an excuse for toruring dogs? I'm sure those dogs grandmammas and grandpapass had nothing to do with toturing black people

Posted by: julie murphy | August 21, 2007 10:07 AM

I hope that this horrendous act, which is high profile, will finally bring attention to the massiveness of this issue. In all his loathsomeness, Mike Vic may have just done a huge service to these maligned animals. Let's keep the spotlight on it so we don't go to sleep. DOG FIGHTING IS CRUEL AND UN-AMERICAN!! We have to be more evolved than that.

Posted by: Mary Kennedy | August 21, 2007 10:58 PM

The very sad part is that this "guilty plea" is simply a way to side step the long term public opinion. Michael Vick's is not taking responsibilty for his actions, I have yet to see remorse for his cruelty. He is pleaing guilty and then he will wait until some other horrible event occurs to attract the attention of the masses, then back to the game he goes! The only justice that will be served...is if there truly is a special place in hell for people who are cruel to animals....Happy trails Mr. Vick.

Posted by: Oliver Catoe | August 24, 2007 02:17 PM

I was never brought to tears over what happen. I being honest. There has been dog fighting for more years than I can remember. The fact that this is about Michael Vick who has been hated since the last Great White Hope was replaced by Vick is the true issue. This could possible be a ploy against Blank. This will bring his profits down alot and someone out there knows it. Why a man with smarts would allow the few people that marched in the streets rule what happens, He is not as smart as I thought he was. Ok the dogs are dead. Yes I own a pet. LET IT GO! I don't feel anyone should lose their job and go to jail for the dogs. This proves who rules. I believe if those who speak up for Vick would March and Boycott the arena and stop supporting the Falcons because Mike Vick is not there, there would be more to loose. NO! I didn't say Mike made the right choices but the punishment is too severe. People who kill people get less tv time.
It is time to see that our lives are ruled by the few with nothing to do but protest. We go out to eat and the same people dictate what fat is our food. The schools let the same type of people dictate if prayers are in the schools. How much more will the majority take? I AM FED UP AND I AM SPEAKING OUT.
DOGS ARE ANIMALS. My guess is if meat haters begin to protest loud enough there would be NO MEAT. Meat comes from some poor animal that is murdered.
I drink luke warm coffee because of those who wanted money for hot coffee spills.
The fast food fries taste horrible now because of the people who complain that they get fat from eating them. It makes me say what are people thinking?
Is this where America is headed?
I said America because bulls die every day in bull fights. Send the marchers to the white house to protest the killing of the young men at war right now. They don't care about humans.
The majority that never speak out should stop these people from getting so much attention. Yes I blame the media for giving these people air time. Ask those same people to March to house an feed the homeless. OH NO!! They may not have the time. The homeless are humans. It is time to stop the madness!!
Lets focus on young women that rob banks and are called Barbie. By the way Barbie got a slap on the wrist and no jail time. Matel should file a law suite for being called Barbie.
The media is not talking about it.

Now that Vick has pleaded guilty, the judge should sentence Vick to the same outcome he submitted his loosing dogs to. As far as I'm concerned, the same sentance can be handed down to all who engage in this awful type of thing!

I, too, would like PETA to post a list of the names of Vick's sponsors so we can send them a message in case they haven't withdrawn their support of Vick yet.

Excerpts from - Vick Takes PETA Course in Respect for Animals - PETA website 03 Oct 07 - 1130PM

PETA president Ingrid Newkirk - told Vick that “PETA advocates an end to all exploitation and needless violence based on prejudice, including the prejudice against other species.” (but prejudice against NFL?)

Can agree with the concept of respect breathing things .. But one bad seed don’t mean the entire NFL agrees with his choice… but I do agree with PETA on the issue .. And don’t dispute that, however, MANDATORY for ALL NFL players, why should they all have to be “punished”?

“In the last year alone, PETA has responded to more than 14,000 calls and e-mails regarding other dog fighting and individual cruelty-to-animals cases.” (How many of those 14,000 were NFL people?)

Voluntary option without judgment is what it should be, and if they take the course its so they can understand whatever it is that they want to obtain from it.

I understand the need for awareness of the animal and the money options are tempting. But the entire NFL did not do this .. Its not a requirement for all NFL players to accept Dog Fighting is it? .. If not, then why should they be “punished“. If it is a requirement .. Then maybe the “rule book needs updating”.

There are so many things that should be required to the “guilty”. But why is it that the innocent have to do some of the same stuff just to remain themselves?

Why does the vegetarian have to specify “NO MEAT”?
Why does the diabetic have to specify “NO SUGAR”?
Why does the believer in any faith have to back off of “The State/Gov’t”
Why does the State/Gov’t have to back off of any believer in any faith?
And the list can go on and on …

Instead of dealing with the person/situation at hand .. This world seems to think that if it happens to one .. Then we have an issue and we must redeem and demand equal rights… but who are we to judge.

The term democracy used to mean freedom .. But now you can’t even throw a football without going thru a pet empathy test?

And don’t get me wrong .. I don’t agree with Mr. Vick .. But I am only 1 person .. And my opinion is just that .. My opinion, but I have to wonder .. What is next .. And we probably need to rewrite a lot of the rule books (just a football pun there) to allow all to accept what the other does and be held “accountable”.

We don’t get put on this earth to judge and I don’t mean to .. But dang .. why is it that one major bad decision from one person .. Can spark a whole new “purpose/requirement”?

One complaint about school prayer and poof gone, one child molested by teacher and child is making it up? .. All see things differently and if it is illegal then make the situation become aware but don’t FORCE innocent people into doing what one person messed up.

You know I have read all this venom against Michael Vick and im sickened by it.Im not condoning dog fighting but you people need to get things into perspective. Michael Vick went to jail for about 2yrs of his life how can anyone rightfully continue to attack him? I used to respect PETA but from what I have seen of this organizations rabid attack on this man I now have lost respect for PETA or anyone that supports it. There are many wrongs that occur on this planet that is much worse than what Michael Vick have done and no one bats an eye. Michael Vick went to jail so you cannot rightfully continue to condemn the man. Who do you people think you are. I suspect that you are all against the man for reasons other than Dog Fighting. This is very disturbing. Have PETA gone to Spain to protest Bull Fighting? PETA you are very selective in what and who you protest. You are also very selective with the amount of energy committed to condemning this Man vice other people. Bull fighters are still heroes in many countries have PETA done anything to stop the worshiping of Bull Fighters? Ill say it again Michael Vick wen to jail for what he did what more do you want?
What should happen is the leader of PETA should be put in jail for 2 years and have hers/his name dragged through the mud to see how that feels. Then maybe she/he would believe that Michael Vick has been punished enough
