"There's nothing 'peaceful' or 'relaxing' about torturing sensitive, intelligent beings. There are plenty of opportunities for fathers and sons to bond that don't involve killing animals."
You can read the letter that Ingrid wrote to Senator Webb this morning here. I'll let you know if we get a response.

Think You may have missed the point about the letter. I may be wrong here but it wasn't really about fish tasting good or the fact that we need them to survive.
Bob would you like it if you were swimming along and out of nowhere a hook landed threw your mouth, eye, anywhere really on your body for that matter? Your first reaction would more than likely be shock then to fight which would only dig the sharp hook deeper, then reeled in and flopped over the side into the boat mangled and bloody, you probably would not be a good catch( as a man or a fish) just to be tossed back into the water still alive bloody and defenseless.
As far as we "need" fish, please show me the source where you found this to be true.
STOP OH NO. if that's the case what about all the people with allergic reactions to seafood and fish?? What are they to do?
I have a secret for you .....we have these wonderful things you can eat that are full of vitamins and minerals. Pssst they are called fruits and vegetables, ok say it with me just to make sure you get it, fruits and vegetables. Very good and you can find them at a place called a grocery store. Come out from the cave you were living in, do some reading about evolution and do not be surprised if you get weird looks at the grocery store in your caveman attire either. We have jeans and t-shirts these days too at malls but you wouldn't understand what those are yet. Maybe next time.

I'm a beginning veg and I'm slowly cutting things out of my diet, and I have an honest question...what are other sources for omega-3 other than fish? Will I have to take a supplement?
Posted by: BullyDawg | June 19, 2007 05:15 PM
There is a whole grain pasta Barilla that has added omega 3 to the pasta( I believe by using flax seed oil).Or you can find plenty of Supplements and they are gelatin free as well.Spinach is a great source of omega 3,it contains more than several fish.
Soya, hemp, flax and pumpkin seeds and oils, walnuts and leafy green vegetables. It is not just limited to fish as many people believe.

BullyDawg,
Try flax seeds (buy them whole and then coffee-grind them and sprinkle them over stuff), walnuts, flax seed oil (I've tried tabs, but I'm sure you can buy bottled oil too). There is also Omega-Zen-3 by NuTru which are vegan DHA capsules utilizing marine algae (which I believe is where the fish get the omega-3 DHA from in the first place). I don't think it's particularly cheap, but then it's free of mercury, dioxins, et cetera.
The book "Becoming Vegan" covers the omega essential fatty acids very thoroughly, and the authors (Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina, two cutting-edge vegan nutritionists) don't pull any punches.

Fresh fish are delicious. Humans are apex omnivores. There is no reason not to catch, kill and eat fish and other animals. (Not always in that order for those who like really fresh sushi).
The eating of meat by early humans comes at about the same time we stopped being prey and started making tools. High grade protein is necessary to proper brain devoplment: Vegans, you're making stupid babies.
