OK ladies and gentlemen, congratulations are in order. The votes are in and following an impressive week-long rally by Jay Leno, Tonight Show band leader Kevin Eubanks has been voted PETA’s World’s Sexiest Vegetarian man for 2007, while American Idol superstar Carrie Underwood has been voted World's Sexiest Vegetarian woman.

Well over 100,000 ballots were cast, and the other finalists include Milo Ventimiglia, Joaquin Phoenix, Kristen Bell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jared Leto, TV Guide columnist Michael Ausiello and Maggie Q.

I’m sure Leno couldn't be happier about Eubanks' win. He mentioned the contest several times during the past week and said that he stopped by to vote for Eubanks, noting that he wanted Kevin to win to bring honor to the Tonight Show stage. And Tonight Show viewers logged on in large numbers, pushing Eubanks ahead of his competitors. I’m not saying Eubanks wouldn’t be up there in the rankings without it, but Leno’s repeated stump speeches had to have given him an edge. Leno even brought out some rather revealing shots from Kevin’s past to get viewers excited . . .

Carrie Underwood, who is celebrating her second win as World's Sexiest Vegetarian—she also won in PETA's 2005 poll—is a lifelong animal lover. "I quit eating beef when I was about 13," she has said. "I do it because I really love animals and it just makes me sad. … I don't like to watch commercials where they have meat. It weirds me out."

Previous winners, in case you’re keeping score, include Prince, Natalie Portman, Shania Twain, Chris Martin, Andre 3000, Tobey Maguire, Josh Hartnett, Alicia Silverstone, and Lauren Bush.

Congrats Carrie and Kevin, from all of us at PETA. And Jay, how about a segment with both winners on the show?

Wow Kevin Eubanks looks buffed there. I had no idea, he looks so laid back when he's playing on Leno!

Jack, sorry to get off topic, but I must comment PETA on the saavy summertime tips on the front page! Nice visually, very sharp photos, makes me want to go to the beach!

I wish all of PETA's front page looked like this! It's cheery and would lead people to investigate the site more. It's a refreshing sight.

Next time it would be nice to see athletes included. They make a stronger statement than anybody about the validity of the vegan diet.

There are lots of athletic vegans out there like ultramarathoner Scott Jurek, Ironman triathletes Ruth Heidrich and Brendan Brazier, weightlifters Jane Black, Robert Cheeke and Kenneth Williams, rock-climber Steph Davis, and many others.

And since I love tennis, Martina, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert (I know, I'm showing my age), and many I'm unaware of.

I'm not a big fan of Carrie Underwood's music, but I think she's a great person. I really like that she refused to perform at the rodeo!

Dang.. Carrie AGAIN?

Congrats on the winners! :D

Michael,
i heard that Roger Federer is also veg!

Posted by: The Don | June 28, 2007 11:17 AM

Thanks for the tip, The Don. I read somewhere that he had lamb after last year's Wimbledon. Maybe just a vicious rumor. Now if Raffa would go veg...

Michael,
there is an interesting article about federer on www.menstennisforum.com! there he is actually stating that he was a pure vegetarian one year ago but now he eats again meat because he always lost. so he thinks that he lost because of being a veg but he is also telling that being a veg he ate the right thing: pasta! but a pasta-filled stomach doesn't make a big winner so perhaps PETA should send him a vegetarian starter kit! he is still an animal lover and has a cow! i got also a newspaper some years ago with interviews from famous vegetarians and there are also steffi graf and boris becker - but boris becker is eating chicken from time to time - so he is actually just a semi-vegetarian ! but i think an additional information would be good for them!!!!!

hey guys,

I love Carrie Underwood! She rocks! but that is only my opinion!!!!!!!!

Carrie Underwood sports leather, and I have especially seen her wearing a fendi python bag, and leather boots. Now also I have seen the singer of that horrid song "bleeding Love" (cant stand her voice so dont remeber her name) wearing an ostrich and feather designer bag. I dont mind them wearing designers because every girl is not made to wear hemp. Some like to feel as if the brands they wear are luxury items, but celebs like these hurt the veg cause because they see it as a trend or fad to be "cool" and not a way to save ourselves or the planet. Wearing the animals gives people a reason to eat the meat. Cause and effect. Shame on them.
