I just heard about this awesome protest that went down in The Hague, Netherlands, yesterday. Or, I guess that’s Den Haag for all of you cultured folk out there. Anyway . . .

It was at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), where South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe supported proposals to kill 13,000 elephants per year to sell the ivory from their tusks. The activists wore T-shirts with the name of an offending country on them and smeared blood on their hands to point out that any country not on board with the ivory-trade moratorium has the blood of elephants on its hands.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for our fine pachyderm friends though, as Kenya and Mali put forward their own proposal asking that the ivory-trade moratorium be extended for another 20 years, and this proposal has already garnered the support of more than 20 other African nations.

Props to Animal Rights Africa and PETA Europe for the great demo. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear the outcome of the meetings.

It is very important that this courageous group draws the attention on one of Africa's darkest chapters: IVORY!!! There uptil now thousands of elefants are slaughtered every year just for their teeth - and also many other animals for so-called bush-meat! These people there should finally start to understand that all this marvellous fauna is the proud of their continent! And nobody must tell me that they are soooo poor there - so they are forced to do this! the things there are different! these people are not educated - Africa is a tropical country with all the necessary benedictions of a fruit-heaven! But no they like to indulge in their lifestyle (i frequented an African church for two years) - also i talked to members of the french legion and i thought they understood the point but their answer was! Why? also we ate monkeys - there they have no pigs and cows etc. But through war and riots they distroyed the whole basis of human dignity and a clean lifestyle! They have to make schools there to educate the children and adult about what they can make out of their continent, which could be a very lovely-one instead of a hells gate!

very interesting that they hold a convention on killing exotic and endangered animals! rather stomach churning if you ask me. thank you to the activists who make a huge statement by protesting and for those who stand up for what you believe and pay if forward, we all help in our own ways!!
