Save Chicago's Ban on Foie Gras

If you live in Chicago, this is especially important for you, because Mayor Richard Daley and Alderman Ed Burke are working hard to repeal one of the most important animal protection laws ever passed, the Chicago foie gras ban. Meat-industry lobbyists are putting enormous pressure on Chicago's aldermen to repeal the law, and the aldermen may vote any day on whether or not to repeal the ban.
For those not familiar with it, foie gras is a “delicacy” made by shoving pipes down the throats of ducks and geese in order to pump massive quantities of fat and grain into their stomachs until their livers become painfully diseased. The ducks are then violently killed, and their bloated, diseased livers are sold as foie gras. Foie gras is so cruel it has already been banned in 15 nations—including the U.K., Germany, Israel, and Switzerland—as well as in the state of California. Even many grocery stores, including Whole Foods, refuse to sell foie gras.

Who would want to eat such a thing, anyway? As a Chicago native, I am proud that Charlie Trotter, one of the best chefs in the world, supports the ban.

Now how sad and sardonic is this. For once it was banned and its been asked to be made legal again! I remember watching the video Peta released on foie gras, honestly, it literally made me sick. The reality of the video would be enough to make any person in his/her right mind to find foie gras distasteful and alarming!

If this is going to be in discussion again then it should be a complete mockery of the bill which was passed initially banning foie gras. Don't these people in the law get it ? Foie gras is disturbing and sick.

Foie gras is probably one of the most shameful practices. Its beyond my understanding how somebody would want to consume foie gras in the first place especially when you know what it actually is and how its made.

The entire concept of foie gras seems primitive to me. Obviously the eyes of these demonic meat lobbyists is on the money they can mint. What they should know is its perturbing and sick and so are they.

I didnt` know this about the birds.It make me sick to see these beautiful birds sufferning and for what so some greedy people can get richer.We better be scared for the love of money it could be us next.

What a sad reality of life that someone would advocate torturing and inflicting pain on an innocent animal so that he or she can enjoy a delicacy.
