J. Lo Ups Security

According to the New York Daily News, our old friend J. Lo "has beefed up security in response to ugly threats on her life." Evidently, she's hired two off-duty police officers to protect her from an angry, note-writing activist who's been taking things a bit too far. Well, Jen, I’m not denying the effectiveness of rent-a-cops in protecting you from the occasional crazy old cat lady who sends you a strongly worded missive, but I think I may have another solution to your issues with overzealous animal lovers: Stop draping yourself head-to-toe in dead animals and flouncing around town like it’s a fashion statement. Just a thought. Some people find it offensive. Anyway, here's PETA's official statement on the topic.
Sounds like J.Lo is taking to heart this video on PETA.org of a model being bludgeoned to death for her fur coat. We believe that in a violent society, one proven way to get attention is to point out that no one wants to be bludgeoned. The point of the video is to promote empathy, to say 'what if YOU were bludgeoned for your coat?" Then you can see the animals' perspective. PETA believes all violence is wrong. J Lo needs to stop the real violence she promotes and subsidizes rather than give herself extra protection she doesn't need.
There you have it, Jennifer.

Just think how easily Jen could solve her problems with her safety, save herself some money, and oh yeah, save a ton of animals at the same time!
JEN'S PROBLEM (as she sees it): life in danger
VERY. EASY. SOLUTION: stop wearing fur
OUTCOMES: 1. save money by not paying for bodyguards, 2. save money by buying less expensive clothing, 3. life less likely to be in danger, 4. fewer animals tortured and killed for ugly clothing and accessories, and 5. Jen can become a role model and convince others to also stop wearing fur.

To be honest, I think Jennifer Lopez is making this up to get attention.
Her career is in the toilet, and what better way to get a little attention than a "poor me" fairy tale.

Lopez lack of talent and intelligence is a shame for all latino people...
I really hope that her "carrer" goes to poooh very sooooon!

i think jlo is still wearing fur in order to keep her nasty-girl-image always updated - clearly spoken - she profits from her own bad image. because of her fur-addiction she is still in the news - for no other reasons!

She was wrapped in mink and fox
and her heart was cold;
As cold as stone and rocks
And she was growing old.
But all the pelts can't warm her heart
And her men are leaving faster!
I don't like her bloody art;
She is just a great disaster!

what the hell is she wearing?? looks like baby polar bear heads?? none the less it is disgusting to think she can go out in public with this on and not have to deal with the reprocussions and i agree with michele with the problem solve it and the result!! i stopped liking her and all she stands for once i was made aware of who she really is a rich latino who has nothing better to do then spend more money on furs which i mind are not faux, and more security to protect these furs which if PETA activists were around i am sure they would make a statement as PETA does well!! jennifer you disgust me and you should be scared this is no matter to smear in peoples faces as we are less tolerant to this. get rid of your 100 person glam squad and do something good for the world and STOP WEARING DEAD ANIMALS!! it is not attractive!!

when will you big brave petaphiles go after the hells angels for wearing leather or scream at football players for using pigskin footballs.... i guess there is real freedom of choice of you attack....

When I see animal fur on humans I see ... really old women with sagging skin and rheumy eyes. I see men who pretend to be hunters when they are just shooters. I see all the current hip hop performers. And mostly I see ... what was once beauty in motion, with a great beating heart, blasphemed.

Is that Steve who got frightened off by the naked ladies?
Posted by: kelly | May 11, 2007 02:21 AM
Actually, Steve, there is an anti-leather campaign at www.cowsarecool.com . Secondly, the leather industry is a lot harder to tackle than the fur industry because leather, unlike fur, is a byproduct. Many of the animals used for fur are just thrown away after having been skinned. They aren't used for meat. In order to get people to agree to stop wearing leather, we'd have to get them to stop eating beef. And obviously, we are working on that. Do you understand the problem?
Posted by: Canaduck | May 11, 2007 02:22 AM
That is one of my favorite Peta Ads. So true.
Posted by: Nats | May 11, 2007 07:16 AM
Steve,
I agree with you but leather and pigskin are both bi-products of the meat industry. There will always be skin left around after the animal is killed for its flesh...
Animals killed for fur are killed for that reason alone. Nothing else. That is the difference.
If you eat the cow why not wear it right? We dont eat mink or chinchilla though, get it?

She truly is as ugly outside as she is inside. Her heart grows darker by the day, and then her darkness shows through on the outside.
Animals with fur must beware,
she is the animals worst nightmare come true.
I wonder if an exorcism might help her and then again I think she is too far gone.....

Steve, there's a difference between being brave and being stupid. Would you go after a Hell's Angel?
And footballs are made of cowhide leather.
For now.

Jlo makes me sick...she only wears fur because she is jealous of the cute little animals, because she is such an ugly person-inside and out.
Posted by: samantha | May 12, 2007 03:18 AM
no mike... i would go after no one except narrow minded animal right's activists who force their ridiculus agenda on a world that believes in the freedom of choice. but it would be really interesting to see dan mathews and his henchman take on a few leather clad hells angels... instead of some 70 year old woman wearing a fur coat!!!!!!
Posted by: steve | May 12, 2007 04:13 PM
What about the freedom of choice of the fur-bearing animal? In your anthropocentric narrow-minded world is freedom of choice just limited to humans? And what do you mean by the phrase "take on"?
Posted by: Mike | May 13, 2007 12:27 PM
The reason people are against people like Lopez is because she influences so many people and actually wants people to buy her clothes lined with fur.By the way steve, any 70 year old woman in a fur coat is such a sad pathetic sight it speaks for itself.

Hey Steve:
You definitely are as sadistic
and sad as J-Lo--If the idea
of skinning an animal doesn't
make you angry and sad for the
loss of innocent lives--there
is something very wrong with
you--and, yes, we, who love
animals WILL KEEP screaming and yelling: STOP THE NEEDLESS CRUEL AND INHUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS--THEY FEEL THE SAME FEAR AND PAIN AS HUMANS--THEY NEED CARE AND LOVE TO THRIVE--
HUMANS DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT
TO KILL OR TORTURE THEM--SOME-
DAY OUR MESSAGE WILL GET ACROSS, BUT APPARENTLY NOT TO
A BLOCKHEAD SUCH AS YOURSELF.
BY THE WAY, WHOEVER SAID THAT
ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS ARE
AFRAID OF HELL'S ANGELS--WE
JUST HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO THEM
YET--THEY'LL PROBABLY LISTEN
AND PROBABLY WILL MAKE A DIFF-
ERENCE, BECAUSE THEY ARE A
HELL OF A LOT SMARTER THAN YOU.
J-LO: IF IT IS NECESSARY TO
WEAR AN ANIMAL THAT HAS BEEN
SKINNED ALIVE TO FEEL GOOD
ABOUT YOURSELF, YOU DEFINITELY
HAVE AN INFERIORITY COMPLEX
AND NEED PYSCHOTHERAPY FOR YOUR PROBLEM, PERHAPS THAT
COMES ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT
YOU'RE NOT TALENTED.

I think all you PETA guys are really, really sick undeveloped human beings. I'm not a J-lo fan but how come you guys don't go after celebrities like Snoop Dogg, i've seen him where fur lots of times. Beyonce Knowles wears fur too yet you guys don't threaten her. You only go after people like J-lo because you feel you can intimidate her. Why doesn't PETA just try having a sit down talk with her like normal human beings do, she said herself that she's open to being educated on the subject. And for all you guys stuck in another dimension, her career isn't down the drain, don't you guys watch TV? Its really surprising that PETA doesn't deny that the threats are from their camp. I don't encourage skinning of animals but do you guys actually think animals are worth more than humans(if you do then you need urgent psychological help)
Posted by: Bryan | May 14, 2007 05:19 PM
Bryan,
I don't think it's a question of what is worth more, an animal or a human. It's why make another living thing suffer unnecessarily. We don't need to wear fur in the 21st. Humans are supposed to be the most morally developed species. Shunning fur is just one way of showing that you're sensitive to other things beside your navel lint. J Lo has a great opportunity to be a role model for compassion. She should proudly take her place with the many celebs that have already decided that fur looks a whole lot better left on the animal.
Posted by: Mike | May 14, 2007 08:45 PM
You can tell that PETA and animal rights activists are hitting a nerve when the only lame-ass response someone can come up with is "why don't you go after so-and-so...?"
Bryan, if you got your head out of your butt long enough to read through the chronology of PETA's various campaigns, you would know that "J-LOW" has had the whole anti-fur campaign explained to her in a respectful manner, and she has chosen to ignore that - THAT is why things have gone to the next step.
You would also know that PETA has confronted just about every fur-wearing celebrity possible about the cruelty involved in the fur industry. Since PETA is not a huge corporate conglomerate, they do not have unlimited funds with which to work, so they cannot possibly mount enormous campaigns against everyone at the same time - they tend to focus on certain companies and/or individuals, and when they have made progress or better yet when they have had a significant victory, they move on to the next campaign.
And PETA does not need to deny anything - again Bryan, if you actually used some brain cells and did some basic research, you would know that PETA does not condone violence.
Animal rights groups and individuals "go after" people like J-LOW because they are supporting an industry that harms defenseless animals. People that condone that sort of violence are the ones who need psychological help.
Posted by: Michele | May 14, 2007 10:09 PM
Hey stupid, nobody said animals are worth more than humans. Quit assuming what I, as a supporter of animals rights, am thinking. You need psychological help if you think Jlo or whatever name she goes by now and Snoop Dogg are celebrities. Get some class.
Posted by: Maria | May 15, 2007 01:42 AM
In response to Bryan--although
you seem to be a j-lo fan--we're not picking on her--just
her choices--whether it be
j-lo, snoop-dog, or whoever,
it is really horrendous that
someone would wear fur--when
animals are tortured and skinned alive--where is your
heart--being a member of
PETA is very important to us
because of the help they have
given to so many of these
poor defenseless animals, and
this is America and we have
a right to speak out against
the inhumane treatment of
animals--when will people
such as yourself realize
that, yes, animals are just
as important as people--and
it is our job to care for them, not brutalize them--
they feel the same fear, pain
and terror as humans--I think
it's time you grew up and
understand the magnitude of
what is happening to poor
defenseless creatures and
help make this a better place
to live not only for humans
but our animal friends, as
well. My heart goes out to
you for being so narrow-minded
and not seeing the big picture-I hope you continue
going into the PETA WEBSITE AND REALIZE THE MAGNITUDE OF
THE PROBLEM THAT EXISTS FOR
ANIMALS.
BE WELL, BE HAPPY AND LOVE
ANIMALS--YOUR LIFE WILL BE
RICHER AND FULLER.
Posted by: sally omar | May 15, 2007 03:08 AM
As it happens, i DO think animals are worth as much as humans. I could never dream of wearing a coat made from the fur of a poor, innocent animal that was probably still alive when the coat was ripped from it. Sounds to me, "Bryan", that YOU'RE the one with the issue, dont go blaming everyone else for your problem.
And PETAs aim isnt to destroy her career, its to stop her wearing fur, get it right before you go mouthing off.
IMO, J-Lo is one sick little puppy, she needs to get her head out of her posterior and see what a fool shes making herself look like, strutting about in those pelts. People will only be sympathetic for so long, then she's on her own...
Posted by: K | May 15, 2007 05:42 AM
bryan,
even if i don't appreciate speciesists i have to agree with you that snoop dog hasn't been much blamed for his fur wearing style! but you have to consider two things: first he is obviously drug-addicted and hence not always master of himself and on the other hand he did much regarding the respect of the so-called ghetto dogs. i think if it was not his taking care of this poor species many of these animals could have ended like their furry friends in china - so snoop is in every way a dog father! concerning beyonce: she was served on fur by peta - but obviously you are not an avid reader - so have a look into the petafiles before you blame someone!
Posted by: leone | May 15, 2007 08:09 AM
All she thinks about is herself and she is vain and stupid and ugly inside and out! So I have simply stopped buying her CD's and seeing her in films. The previous CD's and DVD's I had have been thrown in the bin.
Posted by: Jan | May 15, 2007 10:56 AM
Bryan
Yes your right about going after all so called celebrities (if that is what you think they are..i dont!!) They all need to be educated ASAP but animals dont need to be skinned just for their pleasure.
Posted by: jan | May 15, 2007 11:08 AM
steve,
the expression 'dan mathews and his henchman' is an absolutely paranoid statement; peta is not paranoid, they help the animals but i don't want to lose time with a such guy as you are - what are you looking for on this blog, if you don't like peta and the animals - go to kill your time elsewhere!
Posted by: horse whisperer | May 15, 2007 02:53 PM
I read replies to all d ramblings above and i found out that there are some really sick people on this site(yes i mean u K). Did u read my comments cus if u did, i don't remember blaming anyone else for 'my issues'(if i had one). To the person who said PETA doesn't need to deny anything, you're actually supporting a human being killed cus she wears fur? There are far more horrible people out there than people who kill animals for their fur. I don't condone animal skinning, i really couldn't care less for fur. Also i realised something, no one ever mentioned anything about whether PETA has really had a sit-down talk with J-lo or not. Instead of using barbaric means by going all about carrying offensive slogans, has anyone ever tried like mailing tapes of the ordeals these animals go though to her, i'm sure no human with a heart could watch that and still not care about fur wearing. You guys can call her names for decades to come, its neither gonna affect her nor her career. I think we should act like the superior species(i can't speak for anyone on this site cus i read some comments and i wouldn't refer to those people as superior species more like neanderthals) we're and this can be settled without silly name calling. While you guys are sticking your noses in the assholes of furry animals, snakes also are being hoarded and sometimes killed for their skins too, i don't see you guys talking too much about that.

HW.... I WASTE MY TIME ON THIS BLOG TO LET YOU AND YOUR FELLOW PETAPHILES KNOW THAT THERE IS A REAL WORLD OUT THERE... WHERE PEOPLE ( INCLUDING CELEBRITIES) HAVE THEIR OWN OPINIONS ON LIFE AND THEY DON'T WANT TO BE THREATENED OR HARRASSED BY EXTREMISTS THAT DON'T AGREE WITH THEM. I TRY TO SHOW THE OTHER POINT OF VIEW TO GIVE YOU ALL A BREAK FROM DROOLING ALL OVER YOURSELVES....
AND LEONE... ISN'T PETA THE GROUP THAT USES DENNIS RODMAN AND PAMELA ANDERSON AS SPOKESPERSONS... THEY ARE TRUE ROLE MODELS.
AND FOR WHOEVER MENTIONED PETA BEING LIMITED IN THEIR FINANCES... I CETAINLY CALL 50 - 60 MILLION DOLLARS A BIG COMPANY... ALL THAT MONEY TO HELP PUT LEGITIMATE , TAX PAYING, EMPLOYING BUSINESSES OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: STEVE | May 15, 2007 04:12 PM
Bryan,
Michele already mentioned on May 14 about J Lo being respectfully educated about fur by PETA. I can't speak for any other of the posters here, but I imagine a fair number are veg. Very few people start that way though. We all had to be educated and continue to educate ourselves. Frankly, the more layers of the animal-exploitation onion I peel back, the more firmly I believe in, and am committed to, vegetarianism.
Check it out: there are a disproportionate percentage of actors and musicians who are veg, and I think this has to do with their sensitivity as people. Leonardo da Vinci was a vegetarian and he had an estimated IQ of 220. That's good enough for me.
Posted by: Mike | May 15, 2007 09:30 PM
Well fellow animal rights lovers, I think we should just ignore anything Bryan has to say, as his response from May 15th clearly indicates that he really did not properly read what any of us said to him. I guess I was too hopeful that he would take the few brain cells he has remaining and put them to good use.
Posted by: Michele | May 15, 2007 09:38 PM
Steve,
$50-60 million does not a big company make. It's all relative to the size of the endeavor. Exxon Mobil had $39.5 billion dollars in profit in 2006.
A lot of these "legitimate" companies have been exposed as violating animal welfare laws. That means they are breaking the law. And gee, they actually pay tax? I believe there is a law about that somewhere too.
What is your point of view anyway? Do you believe people shouldn't protest to eliminate inequities and injustices in the world? Anti-animal rights extremists better get used to it. We're not going away.

Posted by: STEVE | May 16, 2007 03:22 PM
STEVE obviously thinks that people will be more likely to listen to his point of view if he "shouts" on this blog.
And as someone said earlier on this page, if you don't like what us "PETAPHILES" have to say, get off of this site! Steve (and Bryan for that matter), you are the one who is narrow minded, and you clearly cannot come up with an original, coherent thought.
Find a blog for people who think it is cool to kill animals for entertainment, for vanity's sake or for worthless drug testing, and leave us compassionate people alone.
Otherwise, I dare you to watch EVERY single one of PETA's videos in their entirety (including all of the ones from the KFC and IAMS undercover investigations), and see if you still think we are narrow minded. If you can do that and remain anti-PETA, then you are a psychopath who is beyond any shred of help.
