I just read an article about how "scientists" at Shandong University in China have created the first ever remote-controlled pigeon. This is considerably less fun than it sounds, as it turns out that far from actually creating anything, these people have been torturing birds for God knows how many years by inserting electrodes into their brains to try and control their movements. Well, they've apparently succeeded, and now they have no idea what to do with their work. As the London Times puts it, "The report did not specify what purpose the pigeons may perform." Even if you haven't heard of the scientists responsible for this experiment, you should recognize them. Like most vivisectors, they're grown-up versions of those kids who used to pull the legs off spiders or throw stones at cats just to see what would happen. Here's what happened in this case:

I read about this about a week ago (in a local chilean newspaper) and found it just awful... horrible!. I was thinking about that the whole day... what will Chinese people do next!?. Sorry, I understand not everybody in China is agree with this or any kind of torture, but this kind of things just make me think that I will never ever travel to China or buy any chinese thing again (aunque suene dificil considerando que casi todo hoy en dia es "Made in China"!).

WTF?!? "... what purpose the pigeons may serve"? Does the London Times really think these mini-Mengeles plan to stop with pigeons?
Aside from the sheer perversity of it all, don't these guys ever watch sci-fi? The cyborgs ALWAYS rise up against their creators. Here's hoping life imitates "art"... power to the pigeons!
Moral of the story: Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I am disgusted with these people. A people with no conscious, a people with no heart or feeling could only do something like this. Something is seriously wrong with any individual that tortures a living animal and they should be locked up away from society never to see the sun again in my opinion.

Vivisectors are as perverted as their statements: one said that he opened thousands of animals and didn't find one soul. I ask myself how deep a living being must fall to open his mouth for such insane rubbish!

The Chinese government doesn't allow its citizens to do Google searches, but they do take money from same citizens for crap like this
(Many of those citizens don't even have plumbing or enough food)

What is wrong with the people in this country? Does anyone there have any feelings for any living creature? They can't all be this cruel. Somewhere in China there must be kind, decent people. I read in MSN today that three extremely endangered lions were slaughtered in India--only their claws and bones were taken. Authorities there believe they were killed so their body parts could be ground up for use in traditional Chinese medicine. People need to start talking about these issues. With the next Olympics being held in China, I hope someone in the mainstream media covers these issues.
How can the rest of the world tolerate this behavior???

This sort of thing is really F*CKED up!! What are the chinese scientists and graduates trying to prove by vivisecting pigeons and implanting them with electrodes.
I agree with a previous comment that this shouldn't be tolerated and the only way to make people aware is through mass exposure/media:-
Beijing 2008 Olympics I feel is perfect to generate awareness.
If this continues what's next for Shangdong's University. HUMANS!!!

I am sad and fustrated to see that this experiment by these soo call "scientist" has actually happend. What fault have the pigeons commited or anything diffenceless for that matter do to deserve such inhumane treatment and violation of privacy.These people need to experiment with eachother, thats if any of them have the guts to volunteer to similar idiotic experiments.
Also, i definetly agree with the privious comments on the much needed media exposure to educate and simply make people aware of the horrible and injustified cruelty to animals.

This could have practical use for people who have lost limbs and must use prosthetic ones. It could give them control over a mechanical limb. The technology is still far from that point but don't be so quick to judge
