Kathleen, not the sharpest knife in the drawer

If reality ever catches up with Reality TV, we're going to be in great shape as far as animal issues are concerned (though, like, Flava Flav will probably be President, which might cause some problems). Turns out that in Reality TV, when you make naive comments about how the fur industry works, you get voted off the show. On America's Next Top Model last night, one of the challenges was to tackle a controversial political issue, and poor Kathleen ("I like fur, it makes you look hot"), got stuck with fur. We're always looking for snappy sound bites to get our point across about the cruelty of the fur industry, so I couldn't get my pen and notebook out fast enough when Kathleen let drop this little nugget of wisdom:

"Well, I mean, like, I don't think you should take a live animal and kill it, but I mean, like, if an animal is already dead, there's no reason that you shouldn't take its skin and make a coat."

Awww, sweetie, that's not how they make fur. I got done feeling sorry for her by, like, the fifth time she had to ask what it means to be "anti-fur," but it was a treat to hear Twiggy and the others express some real opinions about how screwed up it is to wear fur before voting her ass back to Brooklyn. If only there were some equivalent way of voting fur-flaunting airheads like the Olsen Twins into oblivion …

I dunno ... my mother-in-law wears a fur coat, and not even a million cute, furry, little animals could be killed - or rather, skinned alive - to make HER look hot.

Sheeze. Try to grow a brain, Kathleen. SMART (ak.a., anti-fur) women are hot!

I still don't see why most people wear fur, maybe because they dont understand that the animals are brutally slaughtered, or they grow up in a distasteful environment then are shipped off to be sacrificed to the fashion industry.

Ouch. I'm going to see if I can find a clip of it online.

oh. my.

It would seem Kathleen's moral/ethical beliefs are somewhat hypocritical. Using fur, even if the animal is dead still shows people you support a violent and sadistic industry. Kathleen should realise more than anyone what's being done to animals to harvest the fur.

Also, in my opinion Wearing fur doesn't make people hot, it makes people look like Sh*t!!

I think PETA takes things way to far! I love animals and dont wear real fur but there are other ways to get the point across than insultin people!

She's so stupid.
Fur doesn't make you hott.

It's nasty and cruel.

She really has no sense in her damn mind.
Fur is murder,NOT fashion.

Of course fur is disgusting. This girl is just naive, unaware of issues. Frankly, all the girls on the show are unaware. Her remark about it being ok if they are already dead was priceless. Does she think that great numbers of animals just collectively drop dead on their own so some vain woman can have a fur coat? Just will themselves to die for the benefit of fashion? Frankly, all the girls on that show are kind of dim.

Poor Kathleen...so lost, so stupid. Honest to God, I think all fur- wearers are like her...stupid and infuriating.

OMG What an idiot!

Posted by: Elizabeth Robbins | March 2, 2007 05:56 PM

maybe she should stop saying like, get educated on the fur trade and where does she expect to find dead animals maybe road kill!!!

Posted by: jackie | March 2, 2007 08:31 PM

I didn't see this episode. I used to watch this show a lot but I stopped because it looked as if the girls in past episodes might have worn real fur on it. Am I to presume that they aren't because the judges are anti-fur. Cover girl sponsors it and I thought also they test on animals. I like this show and would appreciate it if someone would confirm that they are not in any way advertising fur on their show.

Yes,Fur is beautiful. But, Only on the animals it was grown on. Set them down and make them watch how they make fur products. I bet they change there minds about wearing it.

Your comments shed light on the facts. The food, medicine, and the fur industry would like to keep the consumers in the dark. As they treat animals with unnecessary cruelty, we, the consumers fall prey to and get entwined in their evil.
Thank you Peta. When you keep up the great work for animal rights, you are also working for human rights.

One thing is for sure you don't have to be smart to get on t.v

Posted by: maliacoco | March 5, 2007 10:02 AM

Wow - looks like we have an advocate for road-kill coats!

Posted by: Craig | March 5, 2007 01:24 PM

I watched it, and it actually made me feel good. :] Go Twiggy!

Posted by: Emily | March 5, 2007 06:07 PM

Twiggy was fantastic! Many props to Twiggy.

I understand your point of saving animals but calling people out of their names isn't the way to go.

Instead it makes people who aren't members of your organization think that you are the off your rocker type (crazy for the ones who don't understand what I'm saying)

I've looked at your websites (all of them), and a lot of what you are saying in your blogs makes some people who were actually considering joining you rethink that choice. (I was one of them) Have you ever thought that maybe (I don't know) J.Lo may have looked at your site and after reading what you said about her decided otherwise, you guys are losing some people's support because of your comments. Calling others who don't share your beliefs "dumbasses " is not the way to go. For example (Mar 1) {America’s Next Top Dumbass Brooklyn Girl} do you think that after reading what YOU have said about her and laughing at her she will change her mind probably not, the thing is to try to educate the people first before making a snap judgment for wearing fur or any thing else. You talk about respect for animals, respect humans too and you may get more support for your cause. As you should understand not everyone is going to become a vegetarian so attacking a person for not being one is not right either.
I know that these are your personal opinions but your losing some people's support because of what you are saying (the insults).

Don't TV producers give IQ Test to the potential candidates for shows ?? They definetly must - to screen out the retardant morons like this one.

Posted by: Sergena | March 17, 2007 05:36 AM

From where exactly do you think your hot? Not even 100 surgeries will fix you. You're hopeless dumbass.
